Abstract

ABSTRACT The effect of three protein levels of commercial diet on the growth performance, gonad maturation and fecundity of first maturity of Indonesian leaffish (Pritolepis grooti) was conducted in 54 liters recirculation aquaria system for 10 months rearing period. Eight-week-old artificial spawned  Indonesian  leaffish katung (Pristolepis grooti Bleeker)) fry with an average weight (SD) of 0.560(0.116) g were fed  5% BW three times a day with commercial diets 18, 28 and 38% Protein.  Fish fed on 38%  protein diet showed better growth and feed conversion ratio than those fed on 28 and 18% diets. Males matured earlier than females: the firstmature males were recorded when they were 5 months old, whereas the females matured after 6 month rearing period. The mean percentage of mature female fish rose with increasing feed protein level. It was also found that the percentage of mature fish rose with the increasing fish age and size. More than 70% males matured at the age of 6 months in all diet. After 10 months rearing period, the percentage of matured female fed on 38% protein was 100% while those fed on 16% protein was 25%. Smallest size at spawning of males and females was 8.5 cm (23 g) and 13 cm (65 g), respectively, and dietary protein levels influenced the size of fish at first maturity. It was found that  the protein level significantly effected the gonado somatic index (GSI). Fecundity increased with increasing dietary protein level. The relative fecundity (eggs /g or cm female) was higher at the higher  dietary protein level.   Keywords : Dietary Protein; Growth; Gonad Maturation; Fecundity; Indonesian leaffish Pristolepis grooti

Abstract

ABSTRACTAs a common properti, fisheries management in swamps need to be made to provides economic benefits for the parties on the one side (especially the community), and the sustainability of the ecosystem itself on the other side. Current conditions need to be obtained to formulate swamp resource management in a sustainable manner by reducing fishing activities with aquaculture activities. Aquaculture, besides providing greater income, can also control fishing activities and reduce pressure on the swamp ecosystem. The study was conducted in Rawa Deling, Deling Village, Pangkalan Lampam Sub-District, OKI District. Water quality measurements are carried out for 5 months, from March 2018 to July 2018 in 4 stations with differences depth and vegetation. Water quality analysis is carried out to get an overview of the swamp condition. Water quality data will determine the feasibility and treatment needed for aquaculture. The results of water quality measurements showed that temperature parameter values ranging from 28.1 - 32.2 oC, depths of 0.7 - 5 m, brightness of 20 - 50 cm, TDS 17 - 35 mgL-1, pH 4.1 - 5, DO 1 , 7 - 4.1 mgL-1, phosphate <0.060 - <0.090 mgL-1, total nitrogen 12.50 - 38.90 mgL-1, ammonia 0.68 - 0.93 mgL-1. Measuring water quality shows the potential for deling swamps to be developed in an effort to increase fish stocks and aquaculture activities. Keywords : lebak lebung swamps, sustainable fisheries management, swamp water quality

Abstract

ABSTRACT Calcium is one of macromineral  that needed by fish for  physiological processes such as osmoregulation, enzyme regulation, ossification and cell permeability. This study aimed to determine the optimum concentration of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) at 3 ppt salinity of media and evaluated the effects of adding calcium to physiological conditions and the affect to the survival rate and growth of catfish. The study was conducted in two stages; the first stage was determined the optimum concentration of calcium, the second stage was evaluated  the effect of calcium on the physiological condition of fish. Randomized completely design with 4 treatments and 3 repitations (A. 3 ppt + 0 mg/L CaCO3, B. 3 ppt + 50 mg/L CaCO3, C. 3 ppt + 100 mg/ L CaCO3, D. 3 ppt + 150 mg/L CaCO3) were used in this study. The results showed that the salinity of media with the addition of calcium can reduce levels of osmotic performance, oxygen consumption, and blood glucose levels, and it can increase the feed efficiency and daily growth rate. Treatment C (3 ppt + 100 mg/L) showed the best physiological condition among other treatments.   Keywords : Calcium; Salinity; Catfish; Pangasianodon hypopthalmus
