Abstract

Key Words: HIV -AIDS- ELISA-prostitute - venereo logy

Abstract

Effective treatment of epilepsy requires accurate diagnosis. This relies heavily on proper identification of seizure type. Successful drug therapy requires a proper understanding of medication half-life and indications.Accurate diagnosis cannot be established easily since diagnosis of epilepsy relies on history taking and most of the patients do not show any clinical abnormality. Furthermore, diagnosis of epilepsy needs details of seizure type. This may be more difficult to be identified because information on the patients/their relatives are insufficient. Meanwhile, problems related to anti-epileptic drugs comprise poor understanding of the drugs, anticonvulsant interactions, development of adverse drug reactions, boring and poor compliance in taking medicine. Continuing medical education is one of the methods to solve the problems.Psychosocial conditions may interfere the treatment. In addition, any physician who cares epileptic patients should have comprehensive understanding of the patients condition including his/her family. On the other hand, the patients and/or their relatives should have proper information concerning the diagnosis, therapy, and prognosis of epilepsy.Health Centers, particularly ,in the rural areas, should have sufficient competence to manage epileptic patients. Good referral system will improve the competence and the patients will get some advantages.Key words: epilepsy - correct diagnosis - continuing medical education - psychosocial conditions - health center

Abstract

Symptoms such as difficulty in feeding during the early life of a baby that might be caused by oral dysfunction will influence the physical, emotional, and social growth and development of the child. The reasons for oral dysfunction in infancy include prematurity, dysmaturity, mental retardation, or brain dysfunction_ An understanding of the mechanism of mature oral function and of normal oral function in infancy is necessary as a basis for the evaluation and treatment of babies with feeding problems. Physiotherapeutic management in cases of babies of age-range from 5 to 67 days with difficulty in feeding due to different causes has been presented. Key Words: oral dysfunction - infancy - feeding problems - growth and development - physiotherapy

Abstract

The steroidal contraceptive agents are highly predictable in preventing pregnancy, however, all currently used synthetic progestogens have certain potential side effects. These side effects may be due to either the direct actions of the synthetic steroids or the indirect actions through the womens own endocrine system. The objective of the study is to evaluate potential alterations of the endocrine functions in women using Norplant compared to injectable contraceptive method. The study was conducted in a cohort study by recruiting 25 women in each group receiving either Norplant or Depoprovera contraceptive method voluntarily. Six months after entering the study 10 ml of blood was taken from the cubits] vein and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) , luteini zing hormone (LH), prolactine (PRL), progesterone (P), oestradiol (E2), total testosterone (r), free testosterone (FT) and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) were measured using radioimmunoassay. The mean of SHBG level in Norplant (29.44 ± 9.85 nmol/l) is statistically, lower (p421.001) compared to Depoprovera acceptors (50.64 ± 21.29 nmol/l), however, they were still in the normal range. The means of total testosterone and free testosterone level were higher in Norplant group, however, they were not statistically different (p = 0,391 and 0.182 respectively). No androgenicity symptoms were clinically found in both groups. Either Norplant or Depoprovera lowering the secretion of progestogen and oestrogen, indicated that the alterations of endocrine function occured more frequently in the level of target organ (ovary) rather than in the level of hypophysis or hypothalamus. These findings were also confirmed by the mean levels of FSH, LH and prolactine which were also in the normal range. It is concluded, that there were no potential alterations of the endocrine functions in women using either Norplant or Deprovera especially in androgenicity. The influence of both progestogen contraceptive methods were greater on the level of target organ.Key words : contraception-Norplant-Depoprovera -radioimmuno assay-blood

Abstract

Two groups of patients were treated with combined modality radiation and hyperthermia at the Strahlentherapeutische Klinik, Universitit Erlangen-Nurnberg, Federal Republic of Germany, from October 1987 to July 1988. The first group of 8 patients (4 cases of carcinoma of-the floor of the mouth, 3 cases of tongue carcinoma, 1 case of Ewing sarcoma) was treated with combination radiation and interstitial hyperthermia. 7 cases have complete remission (87.5%), whereas 1 case has partial remission (12.5%). The second group of 6 patients (5 breast cancer recurrences in the chest wall and supraclavicular region, 1 case with cancer of the parotid gland) were treated with combined radiation of electron beam 12 Mev by Siemens Mevatron 20 and superficial hyperthermia using Lund Buehler hyperthermia system 4010, 915 MHZ/20 W, once a week. 4 cases have complete remission (66.6%) and two cases have partial remission (33.3%). As a background of hyperthermia we also describe the principles of thermobiology, heat interaction with irradiation, physiologic mechanisms, and effects of hypertherrnia on microvasculature of tumors as well, as basic principles of physics and instrumentation of hyperthermia.key words: cancer-hyperthermia-radiation therapy-thermobiology-thermometry

Abstract

Background: Aedes albopictus skuse is an important vector of dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever in Southeast Asia. Its distribution in Indonesia extends from Sabang (Sumatera) to Merauke (Papua) and is currently expanding. In response to a potential dengue fever outbreak in Indonesia during 2002, the susceptibility of 4 geographic populations of Aedes albopictus Skuse to commonly used mosquito adulticide (malathion) and larvicide (temephos) were assessed. Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the susceptibility status of each Ae. albopictus population to malathion and temephos. Methods: Eggs collected from 4 different geographic area in Indonesia, such as Padang (Sumatera), Yogyakarta (Java), Banjar (Kalimantan) and Timika (Papua) were reared to larvae and adults and were investigated by using bioassay (World Health Organization, 1981). The bioassay data were analyses using Probit analysis, which also corrects for mortality in the controls by Abott formula.Result: The Ae. albopictus mosquito population originate from Yogyakarta shows highest LC50 and LC90 malathion and temephos value, and the Ae. albopictus mosquito population originate from Timika shows lowest LC50 and LC90 malathion and temephos value than other population. Conclusion: There were insecticide susceptibility status difference of Ae. albopictus from diffetent geographic population in Indonesia (Padang, Yogyakarta, Banjar and Timika).Key words: malathion – temephos - Ae. albopictus - bioassay - Abott formula.

Abstract

Abstract

Many factor may determine whether a marriage will be succesful or not. Among those factors, probably the important one is the desire and ability to adjust, to each other in satisfying sexual experience. In man the process of sexual activity is somewhat complicated. The act ought to be widely understood, since much human happiness depends on proper sex knowledge and adjustment. Psychological factors may play a role in the failure of sexual satisfaction.Considering the facts above, the author assumes that there will be a relationship between anxiety and sexual problem in married life. The assumption encouraged the author to study the problem.A survey of sexual problems during married life was carried out in the Special Province of Yogyakarta, among cases who proposed divorce. Results show that most of the cases with sexual problems present anxiety. A comparison between the cases with and without sexual problem, shows significant differences in the distribution of anxiety.Key Words: sexual problem - married life - anxiety - sexology - psychiatry
