Abstract

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan (1) mengidentintifikasi nilai – nilai karakter yang di insert di dalam buku Bahasa inggris siswa dan (2) menganalisis strategi – strategi yang digunakan dalam inserting nilai – nilai karakter ke dalam buku Bahasa inggris siswa SMP kelas VIII semester 1. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitative yang merupakan penelitian analisis dokumen yang dilaksanakan di luar ruang kelas. Data diperoleh dengan cara identifikasi, pengelompokan, dan penjelasan. Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan teori Trianguation. Penemuan dari hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa 14 dari 18 nilai – nilai karakter diinsert di dalam buku Bahasa inggris berjudul “When English Rings a Bell” Kurikulum 2013 Semester 1 untuk SMP kelas VIII. 14 nilai – nilai karakter yang diinsert di dalam buku Bahasa inggris siswa berjudul “When English Rings a Bell” adalah toleransi, disiplin, senang membaca, menghargai prestasi, ramah/berteman/komunikatif, mandiri, bekerja keras, bertanggung jawab, jujur, peduli social, cinta damai, kreatif, peduli lingkungan, dan ingin tahu. Nilai – nilai karakter tersebut diiinsert melalui strategi – strategi mengajar yang diusulkan oleh Thomas Lickona. Strategy – strategy tersebut adalah strategy role play, self-evaluation, cooperative learning, creating moral community in the class; knowing each other, dan teaching for students’ interest. Kata Kunci : nilai-nilai karakter, strategi mengajar, buku pelajaran Abstract This study was conducted to (1) identify the character values inserted and (2) analyze the strategies used to insert the character values inserted in students English Textbook Curriculum 2013 for grade VIII. This study was a qualitative study using document study which was conducted outside of the classroom. The data Wet collected through identification, categorization, and description. The data validation was gained through method triangulation. The findings of the study showed that there were fourteen character values inserted in English Textbooks entitled “When English Rings a Bell” based on Curriculum 2013 use for the grade VIII students. The fourteen character values inserted in students English Textbook “When English Rings a Bell” are tolerant, discipline, love reading, appreciating achievement, friendly/communicative, independent, hard work, responsible, honest, social care, love pace, creative, environmental care, and curious. Those character values were inserted through teaching strategy promoted by Lickona, namely role play strategy, self-evaluation, cooperative learning, creating moral community in the class, knowing each other, and teaching for students’ interest. keyword : character values, teaching strategies, textbook

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah teknik Word Mixing dapat meningkatkan kemampuan penguasaan kosakata siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus yang terdiri dari tiga sesi di setiap siklusnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua jenis data (data kualitatif dan quantitatif) yang dikumpulkan melalui tes dan buku harian peneliti. Hasil tes menunjukan bahwa kemampuan penguasaan kosakata siswa meningkat di setiap siklusnya. Nilai rata-rata siswa di pre-test ialah 65.30, 71.79 di posttest 1, lalu meningkat menjadi 81.13 di posttest 2. Peningkatan tersebut juga dapat dilihat melalui jumlah siswa yang lulus: 4 siswa di pretest, 18 siswa di posttest 1, dan 36 siswa di post test 2. Hasil dari buku harian peneliti menunjukan bahwa siswa memberikan tanggapan yang sangat positif terhadap pengimplementasian strategi Mind Mapping dan Star Chart. Berdasarkan hasil tes dan buku harian peneliti, dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan penguasaan siswa kelas VIIC dapat ditingkatkan melalui pengimplementasian teknik Word Mixing.Kata Kunci : Teknik Word Mixing, Kemampuan Penguasaan Kosakata This study was a classroom based action research which aimed to find out whether Word Mixing technique can improve students’ vocabulary mastery. This study was conducted in two cycles consisting of three sessions in each cycle. There were two kinds of data (qualitative and quantitative data) which were collected through tests and writer’s diary. The result of the tests showed that the students’ vocabulary mastery was improved in each cycle. The students’ mean score was 65.30 in pre test, 71.79 in post test 1, and improved became 81.13 in post test 2. It can be also seen on the number of students passing the test. There were 4 students passed in the pre test, 18 students in the post test 1, and 36 students in the post test 2. The result of writer’s diary also showed that the students gave positive response toward the implementation of Word Mixing Technique. Based on the results of the tests and the writer’s diary, it can be concluded that vocabulary mastery of VIIC students successfully improved by the implementation of Word Mixing technique. keyword : Word Mixing Technique, Vocabulary Mastery

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dengan menggunakan story berdasarkan materi audio visual. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas sepuluh multimedia di SMK Negeri 1 Nusa Penida, tahun akademik 2015/2016. Jumlah subjek penelitian ini adalah 24 siswa. Penelitian ini di desain menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas dimana dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Tiap siklus berisi empat langkah seperti: perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Data di analisis deskirptif yang mana diperoleh dengan menggunakan dua jenis instrument: test dan questionnaire. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa cerita berdasarkan materi audio visual meningkatkan kemampuan siswa di dalam mendengarkan. Peningkatan siswa di lihat dari skor rata-rata yang diperoleh siswa. Skor rata-rata pre-test adalah 46,16 dan ini dalam tingkat kurang. Peningkatan Skor menjadi 61,00 di post test 1 yang mana berada di tingkat baik. Peningkatan skor menjadi 68,50 berada di tingkat baik. Dari penjelasan diatas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa memiliki pengaruh yang positif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam hal mendengarkan. Mengajarkan mendengarkan dengan menggunakan cerita berdasarkan materi audio visual material menarik minat siswa dalam meningkatkan kemampuan mendengarkan siswa. Kata Kunci : Kemampuan Mendengarkan, Cerita berdasarkan Materi Audio Visual In this research, the researcher used story based audio visual materials to improve students’ listening competence. The participants were the students of the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Nusa Penida in academic year 2015/2016. The subjects consisted of 24 students with 10 females and 14 males. This research was designed in the form of classroom action research (CAR) which was conducted in two cycles. There were 4 phases included, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The mean score of the pre test was 46.16 which means that some of the students or 41% could pass the minimum score level of criteria (KKM) and it was categorized as poor level. Meanwhile, the mean score of the post test 1 was 61.00 which means that there were 12 students or 50% who could pass KKM and it indicated that students’ level was sufficient. After post test 2 was conducted, the mean score increased up to 68.50 which means that there were 19 students or 79% could pass KKM. The score of the post test 2 was categorized as good level. Based on the explanation above, it can be said that story based audio visual materials have positive influence for improving students’ listening competence in post test. It can help students improve their ability in listening. Then, teaching listening by using story based audio visual materials attracted the students’ attention in improving their listening competence. keyword : Listening Competence, Story based Audio visual Materials

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kategori interaksi kelas yang terjadi di kelas VII A 1 di SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja berdasarkan Flanders Interaction Analysis Categories (FIAC), kategori interaksi yang sering digunakan, bahasa yang dominan di gunakan dan alasan menggunakan bahasa tersebut dalam interaksi kelas. Subjek dalam penelitian ini yaitu guru dan siswa kelas VII A 1 sebanyak 26 siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dalam bentuk observasi non-partisipan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: (1) accepts feelings terjadi sebanyak 49 ucapan, praises atau encouragement terjadi sebanyak 67 ucapan, accepts atau uses ideas of students terjadi sebanyak 66 ucapan, asks questions terjadi sebanyak 381 ucapan, lecturing terjadi sebanyak 101 ucapan, giving directions terjadi sebanyak 160 ucapan, criticizing atau justifying authority terjadi sebanyak 17ucapan, students’ talk response terjadi sebanyak 365 ucapan, students’ talk initiation terjadi sebanyak 219 ucapan, silence atau confusion terjadi sebanyak 30 ucapan. (2) Kategori dari interaksi kelas yang paling sering terjadi yaitu asking questions. (3) Bahasa yang dominan di gunakan adalah Bahasa Inggris yang terjadi sebanyak 1176 ucapan sementara Bahasa Indonesia terjadi sebanyak 249 ucapan, selanjutnya alasan menggunakan Bahasa Inggris dalam interaksi kelas yaitu: (a) Bahasa Inggris digunakan untuk memberikan instruksi. (b) Bahasa Inggris digunakan untuk mengklarifikasi kata-kata asing bagi siswa. (c) Bahasa Inggris digunakan untuk memberikan contoh-contoh. (d) Bahasa Inggris digunakan untuk mengkritisi tingkah laku negatif siswa. (e) Bahasa Inggris digunakan untuk memberikan feedback. (f) Bahasa Inggris digunakan untuk bertanya. Kata Kunci : Interaksi Kelas, Flanders Interaction Analysis Categories (FIAC) This research aimed at analyzing the classroom interaction category occurred at VII. A1 class of SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja based on Flanders Interaction Analysis Categories (FIAC). The category which mostly used, the dominant language used and the reasons to use it. The subjects of the study were a teacher and 26 students of VII A1 class. This research employed qualitative research. The results of this research showed that: (1) accepting feelings occurred 49 utterances, praising or encouragement occurred 67 utterances, accepting or using ideas of students occurred 66 utterances, asking questions occurred 381 utterances, lecturing occurred 101 utterances, giving directions occurred 160 utterances, criticizing or justifying authority occurred 17 utterances, students’ talk response occurred 365 utterances, students’ talk initiation occurred 219 utterances, silence or confusion occurred 30 utterances. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada pemahaman membaca pada siswa kelas VIII yang diajar menggunakan kombinasi Numbered Head Together dan teknik Herringbone dengan siswa yang diajar menggunakan Numbered Head Together saja. Post-test Only Control Group digunakan sebagai desain penelitian ini. Populasi penelitian ini adalah kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 3 Gianyar. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 64 siswa yang dipilih sebagai sampel dengan menggunakan teknik sampel random atau acak. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada pemahaman membaca siswa kelas VIII yang diajar menggunakan kombinasi Numbered Head Together dan teknik Herringbone dengan siswa yang diajar menggunakan Numbered Head Together saja, (tobs=4.601, Sig. 0.001) dimana siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan Numbered Head Together lebih baik pada pemahaman membaca.Kata Kunci : pemahaman membaca, Numbered Head Together, teknik Herringbone This study was aimed to investigate whether there was significance difference on eighth grade students’ reading comprehension that were taught by using combination of Number Head Together and Herringbone technique from those who were taught by using Number Head Together only. Post-test Only Control Group was used as design of this research. The population of this study was the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Gianyar. The sample of this study was 64 students that were selected as the sample of this study by random sampling. The result of analysis showed that there is significant difference on reading comprehension between students who were taught using combination Numbered Head Together and Herringbone technique and those who were taught using Numbered Head Together only, (tobs=4.601, significance 0.001) in which students who were taught using Numbered Head Together only achieved better in reading comprehension.keyword : reading comprehension, Numbered Head Together, Herringbone technique

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kualitas buku teks, kesesuaian antara buku teks dengan kurikulum 2013, penampilan secara umum buku teks, dan masalah yang dialami oleh siswa dan guru dari penggunaan buku teks di SMA Negeri 3 Singaraja. Objek penelitian ini adalah buku teks berjudul “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X.” Subjek penelitian ini adalah empat puluh lima siswa kelas X dan dua guru bahasa inggris yang mengajar di kelas X SMA Negeri 3 Singaraja tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Subjek ditentukan dengan menggunakan purposive technique. Data mengenai kualitas buku teks, kesesuaian buku teks dengan kurikulum 2013, dan penampilan secara umum buku teks dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan ceklis. Sedangkan, data mengenai masalah yang dialami oleh siswa dan guru dari penggunaan buku teks diperoleh dari kuesioner yang disebarkan kepada siswa dan guru bahasa inggris. Dari hasil analisis data ceklis, skor kualitas buku teks adalah 67.22 berarti cukup, skor kesesuaian buku teks dengan kurikulum 2013 adalah 63.63 berarti cukup, sedangkan skor penampilan secara umum buku teks adalah 60 berarti cukup. Dari hasil analisis data kuesioner, terdapat beberapa masalah yang dialami oleh siswa dan guru, diantaranya keterlambatan pendistribusian buku teks dan ketidakjelasan tahap pendekatan saintifik dalam buku guru. Secara keseluruhan, buku teks berjudul “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X” cukup baik namun masih terdapat masalah dalam penggunaannya. Oleh karena itu, dapat direkomendasikan bahwa penyusun dan pemerintah bersinergi dalam memperbaiki keterlambatan pendistribusian buku teks, melengkapi materi buku teks agar sesuai dengan kurikulum 2013, dan menyesuaikan materi dengan karakter siswa.Kata Kunci : Analisis buku teks, buku teks berjudul “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X”, kurikulum 2013 The research was descriptive qualitative. This study aimed at finding out the general quality of the textbook, the relevancy between the textbook and the curriculum 2013, the physical appearance of the textbook, and problems encountered by the students and teachers of SMA Negeri 3 Singaraja in using the textbook. The object was the textbook entitled “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X.” The subjects of this study were forty-five students of the tenth grade and two English teachers teaching at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 3 Singaraja and chosen using purposive technique. The data of the general quality of the textbook, the relevancy between the textbook and the curriculum 2013, and the physical appearance of the textbook were gained using checklist. Meanwhile, the data of the problems encountered by the students and teachers were gained using questionnaires. According to the result of checklist data analysis, the general quality of the textbook is sufficient with score 67.22, the relevancy between the textbook and the curriculum 2013 is sufficient with score 63.63, and the physical appearance of the textbook is sufficient with score 60. According to the result of questionnaire data analysis, some problems are encountered, such as the tardiness of the textbook distribution and the vagueness of the steps of scientific approach with the teacher’s manual. Therefore, it is recommended that the author and government should fix the tardiness of the textbook distribution and complete the materials in order to be relevant with the curriculum 2013.keyword : Textbook analysis, a textbook entitled “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X”, the curriculum 2013.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki apakah ada pengaruh yang signifikan dari Jazz Chants pada kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas tujuh. Posttest-Only Control Group digunakan sebagai desain penelitian. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah 357 siswa kelas tujuh di SMP Negeri 6 Singaraja pada tahun akademik 2015/2016. Sampel dari penelitian ini adalah 60 siswa yang dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik sampel random atau acak. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh yang signifikan dari Jazz Chants pada kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas tujuh (tobs= -2.333, sig. 0.023). Siswa yang diajarkan menggunakan Jazz Chants lebih baik dalam kemampuan berbicara.Kata Kunci : Jazz Chants, Kemampuan Berbicara This study aimed at investigating whether there was a significant effect of Jazz Chants on speaking ability of seventh grade students. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mengidentifikasi suara frikatif yang salah diucapkan oleh siswa kelas XI SMK Negeri 3 Singaraja (2) menginvestigasi tipe suara yang digunakan siswa kelas XI SMK Negeri 3 Singaraja untuk mengganti suara frikatif yang salah diucapkan. Dalam penelitian ini, dua puluh tujuh orang siswa dipilih sebagai subjek penelitian. Data diambil dengan cara memberikan lima belas kalimat kepada siswa yang didalamnya terdapat dua puluh lima kata yang masing – masing kata mewakili suara frikatif kemudian siswa diminta untuk mengucapkan kalimat – kalimat tersebut lalu penulis merekam suara para siswa. Data yang diambil dianalisis secara deskriptif dengan menggunakan tabel. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa siswa dapat mengucapkan suara fricatif [s] dan [h], sedangkan suara yang sering salah diucapkan adalah suara [f], [v], [θ], [ð], [z], [ʃ], dan [ʒ]. Kata Kunci : suara fricatif Inggris This study was aimed at (1) identifying fricative sounds which are mispronounced by the second grade students of SMK Negeri 3 Singaraja (2) investigating the types of sounds used to replace English fricative sounds by the second grade students of SMK Negeri 3 Singaraja In this study there were twenty seven students were chosen as the subjects of study. The data were collected by giving the students fifteen sentences consisting twenty five words which represents English fricative sounds and asked the students to pronounce the sentences then the writer recorded the students’ pronunciation. The obtained data were analyzed descriptively by using tables. The study concluded that the students were able to pronounce fricative sounds [s] and [h] while the other sounds such as [f], [v], [θ], [ð], [z], [ʃ], and [ʒ] sounds are frequently mispronounced. keyword : English fricative sound

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertjuan untuk (1) menemukan jenis-jenis kesalahan grammatikal yang dilakukan oleh siswa kelas sepuluh SMA Negeri 1 Baturiti dalam menulis teks recountI pada tahun pelajaran 2014/2015; dan (2) menemukan sumber-sumber yang menyebabkan kesalahan grammatikal yang dilakukan oleh siswa kelas sepuluh SMA Negeri 1 Baturiti pada tahun pelajaran 2014/2015. Penelitian ini dirancang dalam bentuk penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah analisa dokumen dan wawancara. Instrument penelitian yang digunakan adalah penugasan dan panduan wawancara. Data dalam penelitian ini dianalisa dengan menggunakan teori analisis data Miles dan Hubarman. Jenis-jenis kesalahan grammatikal yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah berdasarkan surface strategy taxonomy yang dikemukakan oleh Dulay et al sedangkan sumber-sumber kesalahan grammatikal berdasarkan penggabungan antara teori yang diajukan oleh Richards dan Brown. Model analisis kesalahan yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah model yang diajukan oleh Gass dan Selinker. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa subjek melakukan 167 kesalahan grammatikal pada tulisan mereka, yaitu misformation (29,94%), addition (27,54%), omission (24,55%), dan misordering (17,96%). Sumber dari kesalahan-kesalahan tersebut adalah interlingual transfer (50,30%), intralingual transfer (49,10%), dan context of learning (0,60%).Kata Kunci : kesalahan gramatikal, analisis kesalahan, jenis-jenis kesalahan, sumber kesalahan, teks recount The present study aimed at (1) finding the types of grammatical errors committed by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Baturiti in writing recount text in academic year 2014/2015; and (2) finding the sources of the errors committed by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Baturiti in writing recount text in academic year 2014/2015. This study was designed as descriptive-qualitative study. The methods used to collectdata were document analysis and interview. The instruments used were project and interview guide. The data in this study were analyzed by using data analysis theory proposed by Miles and Hubarman. The types of grammatical errors used in this study were based on the surface strategy taxonomy proposed by Dulay at al while the sources of the errors were based on the combination of theories proposed by Richards and Brown. Model of error analysis used in this study was the one proposed by Gass and Selinker. The result of the study showed that the subject committed 167 errors in their writing, namely misformation (29.94%), addition (27.54%), omission (24.55%), and misordering (17.96%). Abstract

This design and development research aimed at designing and developing a culture-based English e-media to support the implementation of curriculum 2013 for the second semester of grade VII of junior high schools in Buleleng sub-district. this research focused on developing e-media that is integrated with Balinese culture. The object of this reseacrh was culture-based English e-media that was developed by using Adobe Flash CS6 program. The source of data was taken from the need analysis conducted by Dewi and Batan (2015), related literatures on developing the e-media, and the result of expert judgement. The data were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative method. This research was designed based on the adaptation of Peffers et al.’s model (2007) consisted of six phases namely: (1) identifying the problem, (2) describing the objective, (3) designing and developing the product, (4) testing the product by using expert judgement, (5) evaluating the testing result, and (6) communicating the testing result. The result of experts’ judgement score showed that the total mean score was 3.8 which meaning that e-media had a good quality to be implemented in teaching and learning English for the second semester of grade VII of junior high schools in Buleleng.keyword : E-media, Culture-based, Balinese culture
