Abstract

Studi ini merupakan sebuah studi deskriptif kualitatif yang menganalisa tentang penggunaan majas (figure of speech) oleh perusahaan-perusahaan yang bergerak dalam bidang pariwisata dalam penulisan headline iklannya yang ditemukan pada alamat website perusahaan tersebut. 75 headline yang berasal dari 72 perusahaan jasa pariwisata terkemuka di Bali dipilih sebagai obyek penelitian dalam studi ini. Seluruh data dianalisis secara deskriptif dengan menggunakan analisis dari isi iklan tersebut dan tabel persentase yang bertujuan untuk menentukan jenis majas yang paling banyak digunakan pada headline iklan-iklan pariwisata yang dimaksud. Kategori majas yang digunakan sebagai acuan penelitian pada studi ini adalah berdasarkan klasifikasi majas yang dikemukakan oleh Corbett (1961). Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa kebanyakan dari perusahaan-perusahaan tersebut menggunakan majas dalam penulisan headlinenya. Kategori trope dan grammatical structure/scheme banyak muncul pada data. 48% majas yang yang digunakan pada headline tergolong kedalam kategori tropes, sedangkan 52% merupakan kategori schemes. Kategori majas yang banyak digunakan iklan tersebut adalah tropes khususnya metaphor (10.7%), hyperbole (9.3%), dan personification (6.7%). Jenis majas lain yang juga sering digunakan adalah schemes seperti asyndeton (6.7%), assonance (5.3%), end rhyme (5.3%), internal rhyme (4%), polyptoton (4%), dan ellipsis (4%). Faktor penentu yang menyebabkan majas sering digunakan pada penulisan headline oleh para penerbit iklan adalah karena majas dapat memberi efek ‘prosaik’ yang dapat mempengaruhi pikiran para pembaca. Hal ini dipercaya dapat menarik minat pembaca untuk membeli produk yang diiklankan. Sebagai unsur penting dalam penulisan headline sebuah iklan, majas dianjurkan untuk diteliti lebih mendalam dalam penelitian-penelitian yang sama selanjutnya, khususnya dalam hal yang berkaitan dengan kegiatan promosi produk-produk pariwisata. Hal ini dipercaya dapat memberi keuntungan bagi pengguna jasa iklan dan praktisi yang bergerak dibidang pariwisata.Kata Kunci : headline, iklan ,majas This present study was a descriptive qualitative study which concerned in analyzing the used of figures of speech in tourism companies’ advertisement found in web-sites. There were 75 ads-headlines which randomly selected from 72 leading tourism companies in Bali were used as the objects of the study. The data were analyzed descriptively by providing content analysis and a percentage table which were intended to find out the executional factors and the prominent types of figures used in the headlines. The figures examined in this study, were based on Corbett’s (1961) classification. The results showed that most of tourism companies in Bali used various types of figures in their headline. The figures of trope and grammatical structure/ scheme appeared almost evenly in the data. There were 48% figures belonged to the category of tropes, while the rest, 52% belonged to the schemes. The most prominent figures used on the advertisements were the category of tropes, particulary metaphor (10.7%), hyperbole (9.3%), and personification (6.7%). Other figures, as the part of schemes were also frequently used, such as asyndeton (6,7%), assonance (5.3%), end rhyme (5.3%), internal rhyme (4%), polyptoton (4%), and ellipsis (4%). The executional factor by which the figures commonly applied by the ads-publishers in headline was determined by the extended ‘prosaic’ effect of those kinds of figurative language to the reader’s mind. This phenomenon might impact on the readers’ curiosity to get in the products sale. As the most pominent element used in headline advertisement, figures of speech were recommended to be intensely examined by further researchers or tourism practitioners, especially in dealing with promotional activities or products campaign. Abstract

This study aimed at exploring the phonological and lexical variation viewed from age differences which occurred in Lemukih and Galungan village. This research was a descriptive qualitative research. There were 10 informant samples from both Lemukih and Galunganvillage were chosen based on predetermined criteria. The data were collected based on researcher as the main instrument and four other additional instruments namely: observation, interview, word list and recording. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kesulitan-kesulitan dalam membaca yang dihadapi oleh siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 4 Seririt pada tahun ajaran 2016/2017. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan metode campuran. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru bahasa Inggris siswa kelas VIII dan siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 4 Seririt. Data penelitian dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan lembar observasi, pedoman wawancara, tes pemahaman membaca, dan kuesioner. Data kuantitatif dihitung dan dianalisis dengan menggunakan persentase dan kemudian dijelaskan secara kualitatif. Data kualitatif ditranskrip dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan kosakata yang tidak memadai adalah masalah utama yang dihadapi siswa dalam pemahaman bacaan. Masalah utama kedua adalah ketidakmampuan memahami isi subjek. Susunan kalimat dan struktur kalimat yang terlalu yang terlalu kompleks, kalimat yang terlalu panjang, dan pengetahuan latar belakang yang tidak memadai juga dianggap penting oleh siswa dalam mempengaruhi kemampuan membaca mereka. Data dari observasi dan wawancara menunjukkan bahwa masalah siswa dalam membaca adalah rendahnya kemampuan dan prestasi membaca dan kurangnya minat atau motivasi membaca bahasa Inggris. Ditemukan pula adanya perbedaan persepsi siswa tentang masalah mereka dalam membaca dengan kemampuan membaca mereka yang sesungguhnya. Persentase perbedaan tertinggi adalah pada ‘pengetahuan latar belakang’, sedangkan persentase perbedaan terendah ada pada ‘kosa kata’.Kata Kunci : membaca, pemahaman membaca, kesulitan dalam membaca This study aimed at describing the reading comprehension difficulties encountered by the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Seririt in academic year 2016/2017. This present study was a descriptive study with mixed methods approach. The subjects of this study were an English teacher of eighth grade students and eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Seririt. The data of the study were collected by using observation sheet, interview guide, reading comprehension test, and questionnaire. The quantitative data were calculated and analyzed by using percentage and then those were described qualitatively. The qualitative data were transcribed and analyzed descriptively. The results of the study show that inadequate vocabulary knowledge was the major problems faced by students in reading comprehension. The second major problem was about the inability in understanding the subject content. Too complicated syntax and formal structure, the unusual sentence length, and inadequate background knowledge were also considered important by the students in affecting their reading comprehension difficulties. The data from observation and interview reveals that students’ problems in reading were the low performance and achievement in reading and the lack of interest or motivation to read English. It was also found that there were discrepancies between students’ perception about their reading problems and their real ability in reading. The highest discrepancy percentage was on ‘background knowledge’, yet the lowest discrepancy percentage was on ‘vocabulary’.keyword : reading, reading comprehension, reading comprehension difficulties

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan ciri-ciri fonologis dan leksikal dari Lemukih Dialek (LD) dan Galungan Dialek (GD). Informan dari penelitian ini adalah penutur LD dan GD. Penelitian ini merupakan sebuah penelitian lapangan kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan daftar kata Swadesh dengan cara observasi, wawancara, mendengarkan, mencatat, dan merekam. Data tersebut kemudian diolah dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa LD dan GD memiliki persamaan dan perbedaan secara fonologis dan leksikal. Secara fonologis, ditemukan 25 fonem yang sama pada LD dan GD. Fonem-fonem tersebut adalah: 6 vokal: /ʌ/, /I/, /ʊ/, /ɛ/, /∂/, and /ɔ/; dan 19 konsonan: /b/, /c/, /d/, /g/, /h/, /ʔ/, /j/, /k/, /l/, /m/, /n/, /p/, /r/, /s/, /t/, /w/, /y/, /ñ/, and /ŋ/. Di sisi lain, perbedaan secara fonologis terletak pada penggunaan fonem /ʌ/ dan /∂/ pada LD dan GD. Berdasarkan daftar kata Swadesh yang digunakan yang terdiri dari 206 leksikon, 179 leksikon ditemukan sama di LD dan GD secara leksikal. Leksikon tersebut diklasifikasikan menjadi: 144 leksikon yang sama dan 35 leksikon yang serupa. Di sisi lain, hanya 27 leksikon ditemukan sebagai bukti yang membedakan LD dan GD secara leksikal. Penduduk Desa Lemukih dan Galungan menggunakan dialek Bahasa Bali yang berbeda karena adanya bentuk sopan atau Sor Singgih Basa dalam Bahasa Bali.Kata Kunci : dialek Bahasa Bali, fitur fonologis, fitur leksikal The study aimed to find out the phonological and lexical features in Lemukih Dialect (LD) and Galungan Dialect (GD) of Balinese. The informants of this study were the speakers of LD and GD. This research employed field linguistic design. The data of the study were collected based on Swadesh word list using observation, interview, listening, note-taking, and recording techniques. The obtained data were transcribed and analyzed descriptively. The results of the study show that LD and GD actually have similarities and differences in term of phonological and lexical features. The results of the study show that there are 25 phonemes that similar in LD and GD in term of phonological features. Those phonemes include 6 vowels: /ʌ/, /I/, /ʊ/, /ɛ/, /∂/ ; and 19 consonants: /b/, /c/, /d/, /g/, /h/, /ʔ/, /j/, /k/, /l/, /m/, /n/, /p/, /r/, /s/, /t/, /w/, /y/, /ñ/, /ŋ/. In addition, the differences are the distribution of phoneme /ʌ/ and /∂/ in LD and GD. Furthermore, from the Swadesh word list which contain 206 lexicons, 179 lexicons are found similar in LD and GD in term of lexical features. Those lexicons can be classified into 144 exactly same forms and 35 similar forms of lexicons. On the other hand, only 27 lexicons are found as the evidence that differentiates LD and GD in term of lexical features. Abstract

This qualitative research aimed at (1) finding out the types of communication strategies used by teacher during English teaching and learning proses; (2) analysing the English teacher’s reasons in applying the communication strategies; (3) analysing the students` perception toward the implementation of communication strategies used by the teacher. The subjects of this study were English teacher and XI grade students of SMA Saraswati Singaraja. The data were collected through direct observation and interview. Besides, observation sheet, video recorder, voice recorder, interview guide and field note were also used to collect the data. The result of this research showed that there were 14 types of communication strategies which were applied by the teacher namely: literal translation, code switching, non-linguistics signal, message abandonment, circumlocution, self-repair, approximation, use of fillers or time-gaining strategy, repetition, comprehension check, asking for repetition, guessing, interpretive summary, and response. From those strategies, code switching was the strategy that was most frequently used by the teacher during the process of teaching and learning. Meanwhile, message abandonment and interpretive summary had the lowest frequency of occurrence during the teaching and learning process. The teacher`s reasons for applying those communication strategies were to overcome the communication barriers that occur between the teacher and the students, to help the students understand and memorize the material easier. Moreover, the other teacher`s reasons for applying communication strategies were to make the learning process more interesting and make the students more focus to the lesson. The result of the interview also showed that the students had good perception toward the implementation of communication strategies used by the teacher in the classroom. keyword : communication strategies, English teacher, Dornyei and Scott`s theory, qualitative study.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengajaran kosakata bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan boneka kepada siswa sekolah dasar. Pengajaran kosakata bahasa Inggris dianalisis dari (1) cara guru mengajar kosakata bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan boneka, dan (2) cara guru menilai prestasi siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan studi kasus kualitatif yang menganalisis fenomena pengajaran kosakata bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan boneka oleh guru di SD Insan Mandiri Amlapura. Subjek penelitian ini adalah seorang guru SD Insan Mandiri Amlapura. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, analisis dokumen, dan wawancara. Berdasarkan temuan pada penelitian tersebut, diperoleh data sebagai berikut (1) guru mengajarkan kosakata bahasa Inggris kepada siswa dengan menggunakan suara yang berbeda untuk setiap wayang dan dapat membuat siswa termotivasi untuk belajar, (2) guru menilai prestasi siswa melalui penilaian secara holistik yang meliputi dua bagian yaitu: tertulis (tugas yang diberikan selama proses pembelajaran di ruang kelas, dan pekerjaan rumah), dan lisan (berbicara) siswa disuruh kedepan kelas untuk berdialog bersama temannya. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa guru SD Insan Mandiri Amlapura dapat menggunakan boneka untuk mengajarkan kosa kata bahasa Inggris kepada siswa untuk meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa dengan pembelajaran yang menarik, dan menyenangkan. Sehingga siswa mudah memahami materi yang sampaikan.Kata Kunci : Boneka, kosa kata bahasa inggris, siswa. This research aimed at studying the teaching of English vocabulary by using puppet to elementary school students. The teaching of English vocabulary was analyzed from (1) the way the teacher teaches English vocabulary using puppet, and (2) the way the teacher assess the students’ achievement. This study was a qualitative case study which analyzed the phenomenon of teaching English vocabulary by using puppets by the teacher in SD Insan Mandiri Amlapura. The subject of this study was one teacher of SD Insan Mandiri Amlapura. The data were collected through observation, document analysis, and interview. Based on the findings of the study, the following data were obtained (1) the teacher taught students English vocabulary using different voice for each puppets, and can make students 'learning motivation (2) the teacher assesses the students’ achievement through a holistic assessment which covered two parts namely: written (assignment given during the learning process in the class room, and home work) and oral (speaking) the student came front of the class to dialogued with his friends. It can be concluded that the teachers of SD Insan Mandiri Amlapura can use puppets to teach English vocabulary to students to improve students' learning motivation with interesting, fun and enjoyable learning. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk, arti, dan fungsi dari jargon-jargon yang digunakan oleh siswa kelas XI Jurusan Keperawatan di SMK Negeri 1 Kubutambahan. Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan jenis penelitian case study. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah 10 siswa kelas XI Jurusan Keperawatan di SMK Negeri 1 Kubutambahan sebagai suatu komunitas di ruang kelas. Jargon-jargon yang diteliti yaitu jargon yang secara lisan diucapkan yang berdasarkan pada konteks percakapan dari siswa kelas XI Jurusan Keperawatan. Metode pengumpulan data adalah observasi, wawancara, dan studi dokumen. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa terdapat 81 jargon yang digunakan oleh siswa kelas XI Jurusan Keperawatan baik di dalam kelas maupun luar kelas di SMK Negeri 1 Kubutambahan. Terdapat 14 singkatan, 2 akronim, 12 afiksasi, 2 kliping, 28 kata serapan, dan 23 kata benda. Makna dari jargon-jargon dianalisis berdasarkan konteks percakapan dan wawancara dari siswa perawat. Selain itu, penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa terdapat empat fungsi dari jargon-jargon yang digunakan oleh siswa kelas XI Jurusan Keperawatan, antara lain untuk menciptakan komunikasi yang efektif, untuk menunjukan identitas dari siswa perawat, untuk membangun solidaritas antar siswa perawat, dan untuk membangun profesionalisme sebagai siswa perawat. Kata Kunci : jargon, siswa perawat This study aimed at analyzing forms, meaning, and functions of jargons used by nursing students at Grade XI in SMK Negeri 1 Kubutambahan. This study was conducted in qualitative approach with case study design. The subjects of this study were 10 nursing students at Grade XI in SMK Negeri 1 Kubutambahan as a community in the classroom. The jargons were investigated in spoken based on the context of nursing students’ conversation. The methods of data collection were observation, interview, and document study. The result of this study represents there are 81 jargons used by the nursing student at Grade XI inside and outside the classroom in SMK Negeri 1 Kubutambahan. There are 14 abbreviations, 2 acronyms, 12 affixations, 2 clippings, 28 borrowings, and 23 nouns.The meaning of jargons was analyzed based on the context of nursing students’ conversation and interview. Additionally, this study denotes there are four functions of jargons used by nursing students at Grade XI namely, to create effective communication, to show nursing students’ identity, to build solidarity among nursing students, and to build professional code as nursing students.keyword : jargon, nursing student

Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out the effect of ICT-based interactive game towards the English achievement of sixth grade students in primary school cluster IV in Sukasada district, in academic year 2016/2017. This study was a quasi-experimental research which used post-test only control group design. The population of this study was 174 students from eight elementary schools in cluster IV in Sukasada district. The samples of this study were 22 students of sixth graders in SD Negeri 3 Sukasada and 22 students of sixth graders in SD Negeri 4 Sukasada selected by administering cluster random sampling technique. The data were analyzed quantitatively by using descriptive and inferential statistics analysis. It was found that the result of hypothesis testing (independent t-test) showed that the tobs = 3.256>tcv= 2.018 and the significance value of the data was 0.002 lower than α = 0.05. It can be inferred that there is a significant effect of ICT-based interactive towards students’ English achievement. In conclusion, ICT-based interactive game is an effective teaching media and it is suggested to be applied by teachers to improve students’ English achievement in primary schools. keyword : English achievement, ICT-based interactive game, young learners

Abstract

Studi ini bertujuan uantuk menganalisis penggunaan tindak tutur dalam pengaturan kelas oleh guru bahasa Inggris di SDN 1 Pemaron. subjek dalam studi ini yaitu guru bahasa inggris dan siswa SDN 1 Pemaron pada akademik 2016/2017. Penelitian ini dikategorikan sebagai penelitian deskripsi studi kasus yang focus pada kualitative data. Data dari studi ini dikumpulkan melalui observasi, perekaman, pencatatan, dan data transkrip. Studi ini menemukan empat tipe speech acts yaitu assertive, directive, expressive, and commissive yang muncul pada pengaturan kelas oleh guru bahasa inggris di SDN 1 Pemaron. 229 ungkapan telah dianalisis sebagai kategori tindak tutur. Dalam studi ini, tindak directive adalah penggunaan terbanyak dalam pengaturan kelas yaitu 161 ungkapan. Ungkapan-ungkapan tersebut berdampak mengurangi penyimpangan perilaku siswa ketika belajar mengajar.Kata Kunci : pengaturan kelas, tindak tutur This study aimed to analyze the speech acts used in classroom management approach that applied by the English teacher on SDN 1 Pemaron. The subject was the English teacher and students at SDN 1 Pemaron in the academic year of 2016/2017. This research was categorized as descriptive case-study research in which this research focuses on qualitative data. The data of this study were collected through observation, recording, note taking, and data transcription. This study found four types of speech acts namely assertive, directive, expressive and commisive which appeared on classroom management by the English teacher at SDN 1 Pemaron. 229 utterances were analyzed as speech acts category. In this study, directive acts were the most use in classroom management which was 161 utterances.Those utterances reduced student’s misbehaviour during teaching and learning.keyword : classroom management approaches,speech acts

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada pengaruh yang signifikan pada penggunaan permainan interaktif berbasis ICT terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris siswa kelas empat sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian quasi-experiment yang mengimplementasikan desain penelitian ¬post-test only control group. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas empat sekolah dasar di kluster V kecamatan Sukasada. Penelitian ini menggunakan cluster random sampling untuk menentukan sampel pada penelitian ini. Hasil dari melaksanakan teknik tersebut yakni sample pada penelitian ini adalah 24 siswa kelas empat SD Negeri 2 Panji dan 24 siswa kelas empat SD Negeri 4 Panji. Independent sample t-test dilaksanakan guna memastikan kesetaraan dari dua gup tersebut. Maka dari itu, SD Negeri 2 Panji ditentukan sebagai grup eksperiment dan SD Negeri 4 Panji sebagai grup control. Perlakuan diberikan pada kedua grup yang mana grup eksperimen dibelajarkan menggunakan permainan interaktif berbasis ICT. Sedangkan grup control dibelajarkan dengan menggunakan media conventional. Pada akhir dari perlakuan, post-test dilaksanakan kepada kedua grup. Hasil dari post-test dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan statistik inferensial dengan mengaplikasikan independent sample t-test. Sesuai dengan hasil dari statistik deskriptif, hal tersebut membuktikan bahwa siswa yang berada dalam grup eksperimen mampu meraih pencapaian yang lebih baik daripada siswa yang berada dalam grup control. Selain itu, hasil dari statistik inferensial memperlihatkan bahwa berdasarkan hasil dari t-test yang mana tobs lebih besar daripada tcv. Hal ini berarti bahwa penggunaan permainan interaktif berbasis ICT mampu memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan pada prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris siswa kelas empat sekolah dasar pada kluster 5 di kecamatan Sukasada, kabupaten Buleleng pada tahun ajaran 2016/2017.Kata Kunci : prestasi bahasa Inggris, permainan interaktif berbasis ICT, pebelajar anak-anak This research purposed to investigate whether or not there was a significant effect on the use of ICT-based interactive game on students’ English achievement of the fourth grade of primary school. This was quasi-experimental research implemented post-test only control group design. The population of this research was all the fourth grade of primary school in cluster 5 in Sukasada district. This research administered cluster random sampling to determine the sample of this research. As the result of administering cluster random sampling, the sample of this study was 24 students of fourth grade students in SD Negeri 2 Panji and 24 students of fourth grade in SD Negeri 4 Panji. The independent sample t-test as part of the preliminary research administered to examine the equality of both groups. Therefore, SD Negeri 2 Panji became the experimental group and SD Negeri 4 Panji as the control group. The treatment was given to both group in which the experimental group treated by using ICT-based interactive game. Meanwhile, the control group was treated by using conventional teaching media. At the end of the treatment, the post-test was administered to both groups. The result of the post-test was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics by applying independent sample t-test. Based on the result of the descriptive analysis, the result revealed that the students in experimental group could gain better achievement than the students in control group. Moreover, the result of inferential analysis shows that the result of the independent sample t-test which tobs was higher than tcv. It means that the use of ICT-based interactive game contributes significant effect to students’ English achievement of fourth grade of primary school cluster 5 in Sukasada district, Buleleng regency in academic year 2016/2017.keyword : English achievement, ICT-based interactive game, young learners
