Abstract

This quasi-experimental study aimed at investigating the effect of mobile-assisted task-based learning on students? writing competency and students? motivation in writing. Post-test only control group design was employed in this study. The experimental group was taught by mobile-assisted task-based learning while the control group was taught by non mobile-assisted task-based learning. A writing post-test and questionnaire were used to obtain the data and were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and MANOVA. The findings of the study revealed that (1) there was a significant effect of Mobile-assisted Task-based Learning on the students? writing competency; (2) there was a significant effect of Mobile-assisted Task-based Learning on the students? writing motivation; and (3) there was a simultaneous effect of Mobile-assisted Task-based Learning on the students? writing competency and students? motivation in writing. This study concluded that the use of mobile devices as a medium in the learning process is effective to enhance the students? writing competency and increase students? motivation in writing.

Abstract

Bengkala Village is a village where 2% or around 48 people are born with hearing and speaking impairment. They still have an artistic spirit by forming a kolok janger group. To support the development of education, in 2007, the local government established SDN 2 Bengkala as an inclusive school. At present, this school does not yet have specific teaching material in learning science that is deaf-friendly. This study aimed to explore Balinese culture in development of friendly teaching materials in inclusive schools using development research methods. In this study, exploration was carried out by students using the ADDIE model. The instruments used to measure the quality of teaching materials were an assessment sheet of teaching materials from experts for the validity aspects, learning achievement tests, as well as teacher response questionnaires and student response questionnaires to assess teaching materials applied. Validity analysis was done with the formula of content validity ratio according to Lawshe and the effectiveness test analysis was done through quantitative descriptive analysis. The results of this study are some products in the form of teaching materials for Natural Sciences which are equipped with RPP/lesson plan and LKPD/worksheets with the development of insightful Balinese culture. This products have been validated by natural science experts, learning design experts, Balinese cultural experts, as well as evaluation and education experts. The results obtained with a CVR and CVI score was 1.00 which can be categorized as "valid" and worth testing. These products have been tested limited in fourth grade. Conclusions of this study were the product can improve learning outcomes of hearing and speaking impairment in inclusive schools.

Abstract

Constructing mathematical conjectures involves individuals’ unique and complex cognitive processes in which have not yet fully understood. The cognitive processes refer to any of the mental functions assumed to be involved in the acquisition, storage, interpretation, manipulation, transformation, and the use of knowledge. Understanding of these cognitive processes may assist individuals in constructing mathematical conjectures. This study aimed to describe the differences in students’ cognitive processes in constructing mathematical conjecture which is based on their mathematical ability and gender through a qualitative exploratory research study. The research subjects consisted of six mathematics students of Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha, the representative of high, medium, and low mathematical ability and either genders, male and female, respectively. The data of cognitive processes were collected by task-based interviews and were analyzed qualitatively. The differences in students’ cognitive processes in constructing mathematical conjectures were grouped into five distinct stages, namely understanding the problem, exploring the problem, formulating the conjecture, justifying the conjecture, and proving the conjecture. The results show that there were several differences in the students’ cognitive processes in constructing mathematical conjectures in the previously mentioned stages.

Abstract

Reading comprehension plays a vital role in students' academic achievement. This empirical study aims to determine the influence of survey, question, read, recite, and review (SQ3R) method on reading comprehension ability. The impact of mediation on semantic and phonological working memory toward reading comprehension ability after being given the SQ3R method. The empirical study was Quasi-experimental with untreated control group design with dependent pretest and posttest samples. The total participants are 57 students in elementary school. Thirty of the subjects were selected based on colored progressive matrices and reading comprehension measurement in equal. In this case, 15 students as treatment groups and 15 students as a control group. Backward digit span task was used to measure phonological working memory, sentence completion, responsibility for semantic working memory, and reading comprehension test for reading comprehension ability. Causal analysis technique by SPSS MACRO PROCESS was used to examine the hypothesis of the research. The results revealed that there was an influence SQ3R method toward reading comprehension ability. Semantic working memory and phonological working memory are mediate between SQ3R and reading comprehension, but the mediating effect of semantic working memory is more reliable than phonological working memory. This research indicated that the effectivity of the SQ3R method to improve reading comprehension was mediated by working memory capacity in Bajo’s children.

Abstract

This article explains the development of interactive multimedia which is designed using e-learning. The development technique uses ADDIE model which consists of some stages namely Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The trial subjects in this study were 13 students of Physics Education Department in Universitas Papua who programed basic physics courses in the even semester of 2018-2019. Interactive multimedia validity was obtained based on an assessment sheet filled by 7 validators consisting of material expert validators, media experts and practitioners. Meanwhile, the effectivity and practicality of interactive multimedia was obtained based on the students’ responses after learning. The instrument used in this study was the validation sheet filled out by the validators and questionnaire about students’ responses after learning. The technique used to analyze the results of the validator's assessment was V Aiken while the questionnaire analysis used Rasch model. The results showed that the developed learning media were in the valid category for each aspect of the assessment, namely layout, navigation, functions, and pedagogy aspects. Moreover, students’ responses towards interactive multimedia used were also effective and practical in every aspect of assessment. Students gave good responses towards HOTS abilities that could be developed during learning, including the ability to analyze, evaluate, and create. Therefore, online interactive multimedia oriented to HOTS through e-learning can be applied in physics lesson.
