Abstract

Forests play an important role in supporting the survival of life of living creatures, especially human beings, forests do not only provide immediate benefits as a source of forest timber and non-timber forest but also provide indirect benefits as a regulator of water management, soil fertility, erosion control, and landslides. So the existence must be maintained through regulation functions of forests. Therefore, KPHP is an institution that is closely related to the setting function of the forest. Forest production in the region KPHP Dampelas – Tinombo as the territory of Lembah Mukti village that damage has an area of about 735 hectares, therefore, requires a basic data about the composition and the potential production forest in Lembah Mukti village of using planning, management of forests and development of plantation forests. The research was conducted for 3 months starting from June to September 2014, in a production forest in Lembah Mukti village. The aims of research to determined the composition and potential vegetation in forest production. This research uses purposive sampling line continue, with the number of observation plots as much as 30 plots with a size of 20 m x 20 m. Production forest composition Lembah Mukti village consists of 25 types of vegetation, at the level of the tree in the plot as many as 169 individuals from 20 types of vegetation, while poles as many as 102 individuals of 14 species and seedlings stage as many as 73 individuals from 10 types of vegetation. Abstract

Ebony (Diospyros celebica Bakh.) is a luxirious wood that very popular either in or abroad. The regeneration level of ebony in nature is low enough, it is caused of its semitolerant characterictic and its slowly growth, which on its seedling level, ebony needs shelter plants and at the time of secondary branch formed, it needs light intensity that should increase along its growth. The aim of the research was to find out the growth of Ebony plant in various shelter. The allocation time was began on May to August 2015. The research used Group Randomized design that consisted of 4 treatments and 2 groups as follow: slope tilt 50and 40, so there were 8 unit of trials. One unit of trial consisted of  5 seedling that the total planted was 4 × 2 × 5 = 40 seedling. The result of the research showed that shelter treatment of 90% (N4) resulted the increase of the highest number of Ebony seedling leaves was (`2,7sheets) and the smallest 0% (N1)  as (0,02 sheet),the shelter treatment of (70% (N3) gave a better response to the height increase of ebony seedling was (1,01 cm) and the lowest 0% (N1) was (0,09 cm), and the width of ebony seedling leaves was (25,39 cm2) and the lowest 0% (N1) was (0,79 cm2), and the shelter treatment of 40% (N2)gave a better reponse to the diameter increase of ebony stem seedling was (0,35 mm) and the lowest of 0% (N1) was (0,02 mm). Keywords : Ebony, Diospyros celebica Bakh,Shelter, Growth.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find the physical characters of the soil in candlenut forest, agroforestry and secondary forest area at Labuan village Kungguma Donggala District of Central Sulawesi. This research was begun from location orientation, deciding three swath spots which were: candlenut forest, agroforestry area (teak and cocoa) and secondary forest. In deciding the location, purposive sampling was applied. From three locations, 5 samples of soil were taken so that there were 15 samples of soil taken. From five soil samples of one sample location were composed into one soil sample for next three soil samples analyzed in Geology laboratory. The result of the research showed that the conversion of the secondary forest into agroforestry and candlenut forest could reduce the physical characters of the soil (permeability, porosity, Bluk density, and organic material of the soil). Besides that, the texture of the soil in candlenut forest, agroforestry and secondary forest were different; they were sandy clay, dusty clay and clay.Kata Kunci: Physical properties, Candlenut, Secondary Forest, Agroforestry
