Abstract

Background The Post Stroke Depression (PSD) prevalence of stroke survivor after three months onset was ranged from 17% to 37%. Depression led to fatigue, low quality of life, severe morbidity, and mortality.  Functional Outcome influence depression on stroke survivor.  However, correlation between functional state level and depression among stroke survivor after three months onset has not been established. ObjectiveThis study was aimed to investigate the correlation of executive functional outcome and PSD among stroke survivor after three months onset. MethodThis study was a correlation study. The participants were 44 stroke ischemic patients after three months onset. Participants were recruited in an outpatient unit. PSD was measured using The GRID-Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression 17 (GRID-HAMD 17) and Functional Outcome was measured using Barthel Index (BI). The reliability of GRID-HAMD 17 was .776.  Both instruments were conducted on backward translation in to bahasa. Data was examined using simple linier regression analyses.  The ethical approval was obtained from the Ethical Research Committee of the Medical Faculty Diponegoro University and Tugurejo Semarang Hospital. ResultsThe presence of PSD were 56.82. The median of HAMD-GRID-17 was 10.38 ± 7.58, and Barthel Index was 69.56 ± 21.69.  The Barthel Index showed positive correlation with HAMD-GRID-17 (?= -.41 ?=.006). The Functional Outcome determined PSD as much as 16.8 %. ConclusionModerate association demonstrated the correlation between Functional Outcome and PSD. Nursing intervention should consider these two variables for an optimum quality of life among stroke survivors.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Menstruation is a sign of puberty for female adolescents. The common menstrual disorder experienced by adolescent is called painful menstruation (primary dysmenorrhea). Primary dysmenorrhea triggers both physical and psychological symptoms. One of the psychological impacts is anxiety. Self-tapping is a non-pharmacological therapy which can reduce anxiety.Aim: To figure out the effect of self tapping toward anxiety level among nursing students experiencing menstrual cramps. Methods: This study was a quasy-experimental research with non equivalent pretest-posttest with control group. The total 60 respondents were divided into intervention and control group with 30 respondents each. Self tapping was practiced in intervention group, meanwhile deep breath was performed in control group. The instruments to measure anxiety were anxiety screening questionare and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). Wilcoxon statistical test was applied to compare the level of anxiety before and after the treatment in both groups. Besides, Mann Whitney satistical test was used to compare the effectiveness of both treatments in reducing the anxiety level in each group. Results: The anxiety mean score of the intervention group decreased from 24,63 to 16,03 after self tapping (?=8,6; p=0,000), while the anxiety mean score of the control group decreased from 23,5 to 17,73 after the implementation of deep breath technique (?=5,77; p=0,000). There was a significant difference between self tapping and deep breath technique in reducing anxiety level (p-value=0.006). Conclusion: Self tapping indeed has impact towards anxiety level among nursing students experiencing menstrual cramps.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Nurses play an important role to apply practice in cultural competence in hospitals. To perform this role nurses need to provide information on the conceptual aspects of cultural competence by using instruments and assessing cultural competence in a clinical setting. Objectives of the study: 1) to develop the cultural competency for clinical pediatric nurse (CCS-CPN), and 2) to psychometric evaluate the validity and reliability of CCS-CPN. Methods: An inductive method was used to develop an instrument to measure nurse perceptions of CCS-CPN. The scale validation was conducted with a purposive sampling of 450 general hospital nurses recruited from twenty general hospitals in Indonesia. DeVellis’ eight-step plan was used to establish guidelines for development the CCS-CPN. The data was examined using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) is a method to identify the internal dimensions of the CCS-CPN. Results: Using an EFA, 30-items with a six-factor structure were retained to form the CCS-CPN. These factors describe: culture awareness of pediatric nurse; culture knowledge of pediatric nurse; culture skill of pediatric nurse; culture encounter of pediatric nurse; culture desire of pediatric nurse; and culture sensitivity of pediatric nurse. The 30-item CCS-CPN yielded an overall Cronbach’s alpha-coefficients .85. The Cronbach’s alpha-coefficients for the CCS-CPN subscales were .81, .73, .81, .75, .78 and .87, respectively. Conclusion: The 30-item CCS-CPN version of Indonesia consists of six-factors were acceptable and significant. Unfortunelly, factor 4 obtained an item that does not represent the dimensions of the culture encounter of pediatric nurses. Therefore, further research is needed by using different method of Delphi method.
