Abstract

Delta Mahakam is one of the central representative aquaculture activities for Muara Jawa people that when this condition tend to be less technically efficient for production activities. The importances of this study through research objectives are (1) to analyze locative and economic efficiency achieved in the operations of farmers, (2) Measuring the use of production factors in optimal conditions to achieve a high economic efficiency level. The data in the second phase will be collected and then tabulated and analyzed, and to identify conditions and problems of shrimp farms by descriptive analysis. The results show on average the shrimp farmers in the study area have been technically efficient, but not locative and economically efficient. This is due to the excessive use of inputs that are less efficient. Increased production can increase the cost of production, so it is necessary to do the expansion of business scale in accordance with the recommendations allocative and economic efficiency. The shrimp fry price factor, the use of fertilizers and land depreciation expense does not significantly affect the cost of production so that if there is an increase in prices to a certain extent can be tolerated. The frontier analysis results showed most levels of price and economic efficiency of farms in the study area is relatively small or not efficient respectively 0.464 and 0.247, and the conditions of production factors are not the optimal conditions for below-average economic efficiency 0.664.Keywords: Economic Efficiency, Shrimp Farms, Muara Jawa

Abstract

Horizontal Distribution of Temperature, Salinity and Turbidity in Dumoga Coastal Waters, North Sulawesi. Observation of water quality parameter namely temperature, salinity and turbidity were carried out in Dumoga Coastal waters on July 2006. The objective of this research is to know the horizontal distribution of temperature, salinity and turbidity which can be used to obtain the information regarding the feasibility of Dumoga Coastal waters for aquaculture. The methods were used are field observation using sensor system of CTD SBE 19. The result of the research shows that the water quality parameters in Dumoga Coastal waters there are no thermocline layer with water temperature between 24,22 °C – 28,53 °C. The presence of freshwater inputs from Dumoga River to the seaside with salinity varies from 4,66 psu – 33,89 psu. The turbidity are relatively high with values between 8,33 NTU – 272,59 NTU. Viewed from temperature, salinity and turbidity, the Dumoga Coastal waters still within the tolerance limits for tropical aquaculture.  Keywords: temperature, salinity, turbidity, Dumoga Coastal waters

Abstract

Study on the identification of the potential Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) species in coastal waters of Tarakan. The objectives of this study were to identify the types of potential HAB species, which cause red tide event in the coastal waters of Tarakan. Furthermore, this study was to determine the cell density of HAB species in the study area. Sampling was conducted from April to July 2012. Two sampling locations were chosen: Station 1 was located in the Port of Tengkayu 2, Tarakan and Station 2 was situated in the coastal waters of Amal. The results of the study showed that five potential HAB species were identified in Tarakan coastal waters. The species were Chaetoceros sp (class Bacillariophyceae), and four species of class Dinophyceae, which consists of Ceratium furca, Ceratium fusus, Dinophysis caudata and Protoperidinium depressum. The mean cell densities of the five HAB organisms ranged between 150-600 cells. L , 25-125 cells. L -1 . 25-150 cells. L -1 . 25-100 cells. L -1 and 25-50 cells. L -1 respectively. Chaetoceros sp dominated the area with the mean cell density of 322 ± 92 cells. L -1 compared to four other HAB species. Nevertheless, this study did not find any fish mortality events or a human illness caused by HAB species at Tarakan waters.Key word : Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB), Fitoplankton, Waters of Tarakan.
