Abstract

Humans use the sense of sight to recognize objects around them and manage the information these objects have. The process of managing information obtained from objects in the surrounding environment is referred to as visual processing. Visual processing includes several visual tasks, such as detecting the presence of objects, differentiating between objects, recognizing objects that are considered similar, identifying objects, pinpointing spatial locations, detecting their movements, colors and patterns, and making other types of decisions regarding visually complex events. . This process, which starts from light receiving by the optic part of the eye until cortical representations creation in the brain, is a complex process, and because of that, there are so many factors that can influence it. Among factors, there are factors that can optimize visual processing, such as emotional conditions, increased auditory orientation, and actions that accompany visual processes, as well as those that complicate visual processing, such as the aging process and the effects of premature birth. This understanding is important in determining the epidemiology of ocular disease and its influence in the diagnosis. of ocular disease.

Abstract

Detection of SARS-CoV-2 by reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR) test on nasopharyngeal swab specimens is the main diagnostic method for COVID-19, usually reported qualitatively as positive or negative using a defined cut-off, either based on the CT value. or integrated with an automated algorithm that interprets different parameters of the potential amplification. The CT value was inversely related to the number of viruses in the sample. Consequently, the CT value could indirectly indicate the level of viral replication activity, which affects SAR-CoV-2 infectivity in patients, but this does not differentiate between infectious and non-infectious viruses. Several studies stated that there was no correlation between CT values and severity, in the pneumonia and non-pneumonia groups, symptomatic and asymptomatic patients, the presence or absence of olfactory or tasting dysfunction, as well as on leukocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes, platelets and C-reactive protein. Many factors that influence the CT value such as the timing of sample collection, method of collection of the sample, the kit used, and the skills of the health worker are biased which can affect the CT value. Further research is needed on the correlation of CT values in COVID-19 patients.

Abstract

Tears contain thousands of molecules including proteins / peptides, lipids, electrolytes, and small molecular metabolites which are secreted from the main and accessory lacrimal glands, meibomian glands, goblet cells, and eye surface epithelial cells. Tears are a source of biomarkers for eye and systemic diseases with certain advantages; in particular, non-invasive sample collection and a unique and increasingly better-defined protein composition. Biomarkers are becoming increasingly important in disease diagnosis and drug development because they have the potential to allow for more standard, objective, and precise measurement of disease and / or treatment response to therapy. The search for biomarkers is actually carried out in different body fluids, although the ideal biomarker can be found in easily accessible biological fluids, because if validated they can be searched for in a healthy population. Tears can be considered the optimal source obtained by non-invasive procedures. In recent years, scientific research has begun to focus on the study of tears for new biomarker research not only for eye diseases. In this review, presenting research on current biomarkers in tears and their relevance for clinical practice, and reports on the main results of clinical proteomics studies in eye diseases. Biomarker research in eye diseases, involving characterization of molecular and cellular components, is important to advance our understanding. about disease and developing therapy. However, this is also challenging because of the limited access to the patient's eye specimen Keywords: Essential Oils, Antibacterial, Antiviral, Antioxidant, Anti-inflammatory

Abstract

Occupational skin disease is one of the occupational diseases that occur frequently in the community, and is the second most occupational disease in Europe after musculoskeletal injuries.1 Tinea pedis or also known as athlete's foot is a superficial fungal infection of the skin. feet that often occur in cases of dermatophytosis in general today.2 Tinea pedis infection also attacks various levels of work, especially jobs that require wearing tight and closed shoes, increased moisture due to sweat, mechanical rupture of skin, and exposure to fungi are predisposing factors causes tinea pedis.3 It is estimated that about 70% of the population worldwide has been infected with tinea pedis.Patient Mr. S 65 years old with a complaint of red scaly patches accompanied by itching on both toes since 3 weeks ago. Individual factors that play a role in the form of patients often wearing tight and closed shoes. From the physical examination, it was found that the picture of fungal infection was in the form of reddish spots with scales on top with central healing and active margins. There are no factors outside of work that contribute to the onset of symptoms. From these results, the occupational disease of Tinea pedis was enforced due to the use of tight and closed shoes while working. The treatment given is in the form of medical and non-medicamentous with the main focus to cure and prevent recurrence.

Abstract

Amenorrhea is defined as the absence of menarche in females of reproductive age. Primary amenorrhea is defined as the failure to initiate menses by age 14 in the absence of secondary sexual characteristics or the absence of menarche by age 16 regardless of the presence of normal growth and development of secondary sexual characteristics. In contrast, secondary amenorrhea is defined as the cessation of previous menses for more than 6 months. The etiology of amenorrhea can be seen from its anatomical and functional stratified components. Compartment I is disorders of the uterus and patency (outflow tract), such as Asherman's Syndrome, Tuberculous Endometritis. Compartment II is a disorder of the ovaries such as Turner Syndrome. Compartment III is a disorder of the pituitary such as pituitary adenoma, Empty Sella Syntrome, Sheehan's syndrome. Compartment IV, namely disorders of the hypothalamus or central nervous system such as Hypothalamic Amenorrhea, namely deficiency of GnRH pulsatile secretion causing disruption of gonadotropin secretion, resulting in impaired follicular maturation and ovulation, in turn, hypothalamic amenorrhea will occur. Based on chromosomal analysis, the cause of primary amenorrhea in 45% of cases is due to gonadal dysgenesis, chromosomal abnormalities or muller duct agenesis.

Abstract

Migraine is one of the most common types of primary headache in the general population. Previous research has shown that poor sleep quality is very common among migraine sufferers and is associated with exacerbations of migraine symptoms. Information regarding the prevalence and clinical implications of poor sleep quality among individuals with migraine is also scarce. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between sleep quality and the incidence of migraine in medical students at the University of Lampung. This study used a cross sectional method using a questionnaire that was used to conduct a sleep and migraine survey at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lampung. Participants with a Sleep Quality Index (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) PSQI > 5 were considered to have poor sleep quality and for migraine were conducted with a questionnaire adapted by HO K-H & Ong BK-C from the International Headache Society (IHS) classification. The results of the study of 65 participants, in the univariate analysis found 13 (20%) had migraines and 36 (55%) had poor sleep quality. In the bivariate analysis, it was found that p value = 0.04 with the number of respondents experiencing poor sleep quality and migraine, there were 11 (30.6%) respondents from 36 respondents who experienced poor sleep quality. Conclusions: Poor sleep quality was prevalent among participants with migraine. It is associated with exacerbation of migraine symptoms. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant relationship between sleep quality and the incidence of migraine in students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lampung.

Abstract

COVID-19 which caused by SARS-CoV 2 infection has becoming health crisis globally. There is urgent need to identify strategy to reduce the level of severity and mortality of COVID-19. However little is known about protective factors for this infection. This review aim to discuss the possible effect of vitamin D in reducing severity and mortality risk of COVID-19. This literature review use several journal databases, namely PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect and analysis was carried out qualitatively. The result obtained 10 literature two of which were randomized controlled trials. The result of retrospective analysis shows correlation between vitamin D and reduced COVID-19 severity and mortality. However findings in randomized controlled trials is still limited and there is the need for more large-scale cohort and randomized controlled trials to test this hypothesis. Based on findings of previous study vitamin D suppmelentation shows protective effect in respiratory infection. Therefore, individuals with risk of vitamin D deficiency especially in this global pandemic situation is reccomended to pay attention to their vitamin D status and if needed, to take vitamin D supplement to keep serum vitamin D at optimal level.

Abstract

Nutrition plays an important role in children health. The prevalence of underweight children in Indonesia by 11.2% to 4.0% was very thin and emaciated 7.2%, while the obese children by 18.8%, consisting of 10.8% obese children and obese amounted to 8.8%. Lampung Province was ranked second among the provinces with a skinny kid. The nutritional status itself can be affected by several things, one of which is the status of demographics. The purpose of this study is known association of sociodemographic factors with nutritional status of children. This type of research is an analytic observational with cross sectional approach. The population is students of SDN 1 South Pringsewu, with a sample size of 225 people. The statistical test used was chi - square. The results of the univariate analysis are mostly had normal nutritional status (68%), age 6-9 years (75.6%), female (51.1%), highly educated mothers (77.3%), father's occupation were self-employed (64%), parents have a high income levels (> Rp. 1.581 million) (69.3%). The results of the bivariate analysis obtained no relationship between maternal education level (p-value < 0.001), the type of father's occupation (p-value < 0.001), and the level of family income (p-value < 0.001) with the nutritional status of children. While there is no correlation between age (p-value = 0.829), and the child's gender (p-value = 0.307) with the nutritional status of children. Expected the school to coordinate with health officials in monitoring the nutritional status of their students. Keywords : Sociodemographic, nutritional status of children

Abstract

At the end of 2019, there was a pandemic originating from Wuhan, China. This pandemic is known as COVID-19 (Corona Virus Disease 2019). COVID-19 is caused by SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2). When compared with SARS in 2003 the spread of this pandemic was much faster. As of early July 2021, more than 2.3 million positive cases have been reported in Indonesia. The COVID-19 vaccine is available in Indonesia. The government has started a vaccination program as an effort to break the chain of the spread of the Corona virus infection and suppress the number of COVID-19 cases, which is still increasing. When someone gets the vaccine, the body will form specific immunity against the disease that the vaccine can prevent. This person's immune system will be ready to fight the incoming disease-causing bacteria or virus, so that infection does not occur. If a person who has been vaccinated is infected with COVID-19, the symptoms will be lighter and the recovery will be faster. Indonesia has a national vaccination target target of 181 million people, currently 32 million people have received the first dose of vaccination and 14 million people have received the second dose of vaccination. The vaccination program is expected to be one of the solutions to control the spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia.
