A light emitting diode (LED) driver based on single-stage power factor correction (PFC) is presented in this paper. The designed LED driver using flyback topology can achieve power factor correction and constant-current drive LED in boundary conduction mode. The circuit principle is described in detail, the formulas for MOS switch-on time, switching frequency and the main impact factor of power factor are proposed. The experiment results show that the designed LED driver has high power factor, stable output and it can drive the LED with high efficiency.

Tropical countries with extensive lightning activity, such as Malaysia, encounter numerous problems on their electrical transmission and distribution systems. Many overhead lines trip because of back flashover of lightning and shielding failures of the grounding system. To overcome the problem and improve transmission line performance, a detailed lightning study is required to analyse the corresponding lines and determine the best location for transmission line arrester (TLA) installation. We used TFlash to analyse a TLA installation on a 132-kV SSWW-BBST overhead transmission line system located in Selangor, Malaysia. Based on the results, the installation of the TLA at the optimum quantity and at appropriate towers have reduced the number of lines that trip.

In this paper, a new junctionless optical controlled field effect transistor (JL-OCFET) is proposed to improve the device performance as well as achieving low power consumption. An overall optical and electrical performances comparison of the proposed junctionless design and the conventional inversion mode structure (IM-OCFET) has been developed numerically, to assess the optical modulation behavior of the OCFET for low power optical interconnections applications. It is found that, the proposed design demonstrates excellent capability in decreasing the phototransistor power consumption for inter-chip optical communication application. Moreover, the proposed device offers superior sensitivity and ION/IOFF ratio, in addition to lower signal to noise ratio as compared to the conventional IM-OCFET structure. The obtained results indicate the crucial role of the junctionless (JL) design in enhancing the phototransistor performance and reducing the total power dissipation. Such a very sensitive OCFET can be very promising in the future low power optical receiver less compatible to CMOS modern technology for high-quality inter-chips data communication applications.

This paper is under in-depth investigation due to suspicion of possible plagiarism on a high similarity indexLow Density Parity Check Code(LDPC) is a kind of linear block codes based on sparse check matrix. As a kind of channel coding, whose error performance approach Shannon limits, it has better error correction capability, more flexible structure and lower decoding complexity. Currently most of the LDPC code researches are on the premise of the AWGN channel and BSC channel, which mainly in the range of the binary LDPC codes. According to the above problem, this paper analyzes the various decoding performance of non-binary LDPC codes in Rayleigh channel, and realizes a non-binary LDPC decoder in Rayleigh channel through the FPGA design. The paper begins with an overall discussion of issues surrounding the use of non-binary LDPC codes. And then the bit-error-rate (BER) performances of different non-binary LDPC codes decoding algorithm are compared on the independent Rayleigh fading channel. Finally, this decoder design is implemented based on 5CSEMA5F31C6 FPGA (devised by Altera Company) to illustrate the concepts discussed in the paper.

Antennas are generally contructed from metallic materials; therefore it is prone to corrosion when installed outdoors. Radome is an important part of an outdoor antenna that serves to protect the antenna from environmental conditions. Radome structure is not expected to have a significant influence on the characteristics of the antenna. Parametric study is generaly applied in finding the optimum antenna dimenssion included radome. A method for guiding a parametric study proses in finding the optimum antenna dimensions has investigated and proposed in this paper. In this study, a method for determining the optimum radome dimension for planar antenna by applying the algorithm Least Mean Error (LME) has investigated. LME algorithm is used to find the optimum dimensions of the radome. The simulation results show that the proposed method can be applied to determine the dimensions of a planar antenna.

This paper presents how to characterize the quality of multimedia which consists of audio and video that are transmitted in real-time communication through the Internet with limited bandwidth. We developed a methodology of characterizing the multimedia Quality-of-Service (QoS) by measuring network parameters (i.e., bandwidth capacity, packet loss rate (PLR), and end-to-end delay) of testbed network and simulating the audio-video delivery according to the measured network parameters. The analysis of network parameters was aimed to describe the network characteristics. Multimedia QoS was characterized by conducting a simulation using data which was collected from the previous network characterization. A simulation network model was built using OMNet++ representing a delivery of audio-video in real-time while a background traffic was generated to represent a real condition of the network. Apllying the methodology in a network testbed in Indonesia’s rural area, the simulation results showed that audio-video could be delivered with accepted level of user satisfaction.

This paper is under in-depth investigation due to suspicion of possible plagiarism on a high similarity indexThis paper introduces a new method to track the saturation saliency for position measurement of a five-phase PMSM motor fed by a five-phase inverter through measuring the dynamic current response of the motor line currents due to the IGBT switching actions. The new method uses only the fundamental PWM waveform obtained using the multi-phase space vector pulse width modulation (i.e there is no modification to the operation of the five-phase inverter) similar to the fundamental PWM method proposed for a three-leg inverter. Simulation results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy for saliency tracking of a five-phase PMSM motor driven by five-phase inverter over a wide speed ranges under different load conditions.

This paper is under in-depth investigation due to suspicion of possible plagiarism on a high similarity indexIn biomedical laboratories, to get surely separation efficiency of liquids using currently centrifuge devices, centrifugation process must take not less than 10 minutes at 3000 rpm of sample rotation. An intelligent fuzzy controller for laboratory centrifuge device based on separation efficiency model is produced. The separation efficiency model is optimizing the time of centrifugation. The new controller programmed with separation efficiency model have many objectives such as high separation efficiency, decrease blood test period, low cost and device power consumption are achieved. In addition, increases the reliability for centrifuge device to estimate the centrifugation period for wide range of predefined separation efficiency, and then, the power consumption of specific separation efficiency for any centrifuge device wattage can be estimate. The new Fuzzy Logic Controller of centrifuge device has successfully save 18kW.h monthly for 100 daily time device operation.

The trade business license certificate (SIUP) is a paper-based license to conduct trade businesses in Indonesia issued by the government. Until today, there is no mechanism for verifying the validity of document unless to verify it manually. The current paper presents a design that allows paper-based verification of the printed trade business license. It aims to provide the verification mechanism and ensure the document validity. Our design implemented digital signature with QR Code image that placed into the document and the digital certificate issued by a certification authority (CA). The proposed scheme generated 442Bytes of data and version 14 of QR Code to scan easily by a reader device. The experimental result indicates that our scheme is easy and feasible to implement in Indonesia with guaranteed the document integrity, authentication, and nonrepudiation.

Broadcast storm attack on the layer 2 networks included looping and duplicate packets that are transmitted continuously in order to prevent the service of the network, thus, it is the type of attack that is against availability. In this research, a Spanning Tree Protocol method, namely PVST+ (Per VLAN Spanning Tree Plus), is used to overcome the problem caused by the broadcast storm attack on Metro Ethernet Network. The PVST+ serves as a redundant network management and it prevented looping on the network. The result obtained from this research is PVST+ is able to mitigate broadcast strom that is shown by the decrease of number of packets and the decrease of the average packet per-second. The average packets per-second on VLAN 1 decrease to 274,041 and the average packets on VLAN 10 decrease to 267,794 packets per-second.
