Abstract

Heart disease is one of the most dangerous diseases that threaten human life. The doctor uses echocardiography to analyze heart disease. The result of echocardiography test is a video that shows the movement of the heart rate. The result of echocardiography test indicates whether the patient’s heart is normal or not by identifying a heart cavity area. Commonly it is determined by a doctor based on his own accuracy and experience. Therefore, many methods to do heart segmentation is appearing. But, the methods are a bit slow and less precise. Thus, a system that can help the doctor to analyze it better is needed. This research will develop a system that can analyze the heart rate-motion and automatically measure heart cavity area better than the existing method. This paper proposes an improved system for cardiac segmentation using median high boost filter to increase image quality, followed by the use of an active shape model and optical flow. The segmentation of the heart rate-motion and auto measurement of the heart cavity area is expected to help the doctor to analyze the condition of the patient with better accuracy. Experimental result validated our approach.

Abstract

Computer vision as a non-invasive bio-sensing method provided opportunity to detect purity, total phenol, and pH in Luwak coffee green bean. This study aimed to obtain the best Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model to detect the percentage of purity, total phenol, and pH on Luwak coffee green bean by using color features (red-green-blue, gray, hue-saturation-value, hue-saturation-lightness, L*a*b*), and Haralick textural features with color co-occurrence matrix including entropy, energy, contrast, homogeneity, sum mean, variance, correlation, maximum probability, inverse difference moment, and cluster tendency. The best ANN structure was (5 inputs; 30 nodes in hidden layer 1; 40 nodes in hidden layer 2; and 3 outputs) which had training mean square error (MSE) of 0.0085 and validation MSE of 0.0442.

Abstract

One of the human diseases with a high rate of mortality each year is breast cancer (BC). Among all the forms of cancer, BC is the commonest cause of death among women globally. Some of the effective ways of data classification are data mining and classification methods. These methods are particularly efficient in the medical field due to the presence of irrelevant and redundant attributes in medical datasets. Such redundant attributes are not needed to obtain an accurate estimation of disease diagnosis. Teaching learning-based optimization (TLBO) is a new metaheuristic that has been successfully applied to several intractable optimization problems in recent years. This paper presents the use of a multi-objective TLBO algorithm for the selection of feature subsets in automatic BC diagnosis. For the classification task in this work, the logistic regression (LR) method was deployed. From the results, the projected method produced better BC dataset classification accuracy (classified into malignant and benign). This result showed that the projected TLBO is an efficient features optimization technique for sustaining data-based decision-making systems.

Abstract

This paper proposes a sophisticated embedded processor system configured on zynq-xc7z020 field programmable gate array (FPGA) device for generating four channels pulse width modulation signals with variable duty cycles and periods using embedded design techniques. The main advantages of the technique are the high ability to perform a simultaneous control on period and pulse width of the generated signals and a high system design adaptation to choose the number of input/output channels. Controlling the the period and the pulse width is achieved by injecting a digital signal to the designed system to manipulate embedded timers’ operation. Vivado design suite is used to develop the system hard ware in the integrated development environment where the processing unit and peripherals are instantiated and interconnected. A practical aplication program in C language is prepared to make the system act according to the target. The designed system can be used to drive multi-phase D.C to D.C convertors. The system performance is verified by using vivado logic analyzer and chipscope windows. The superiority of the proposed approach over other approaches is that it resulted in a multi-inputs/multi-outputs pulse width modulation system with high controllability on the pulse width and the period that ranges from 15 nsec to 60 sec.

Abstract

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a network composed of many sensor nodes distributed in a region, and is used to monitor and gather information about certain phenomena in the physical environment. A sensor node typically has limited power, which must be taken into consideration in designing the routing protocol of a WSN. One of the routing protocols that can increase the energy efficiency of WSN is Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH). In this research, the performance of LEACH, namely energy consumption and lifetime is evaluated using NS-2. Simulation results show that the number of nodes and clusters affect the optimum number of clusters and the device lifetime, which in turn will affect the energy consumption level as well as the energy efficiency.

Abstract

Currently, the method of optimizing the wavelet neural network with particle swarm plays a certain role in improving the convergence speed and accuracy; however, it is not a good solution for problems of turning into local extrema and poor global search ability. To solve these problems, this paper, based on the particle swarm optimization, puts forward an improved method, which is introducing the chaos mechanism into the algorithm of chaotic particle swarm optimization. Through a series of comparative simulation experiments, it proves that applying this algorithm to optimize the wavelet neural network can successfully solve the problems of turning into local extrema, and improve the convergence speed of the network, in the meantime, reduce the output error and improve the search ability of the algorithm. In general, it helps a lot to improve the overall performance of the wavelet neural network.

Abstract

Ancient inscriptions are historical records of the past age made on stone or metal media. Currently many ancient inscriptions were damaged because it is too long buried in the ground. This research is the first step to repairing the damaged inscription using Image processing. Efforts to restorations using color clustering with ANFIS method are an early stage to perform letters segmentation in the ancient inscription. The Results of ANFIS clustering method are compared to the spatial fuzzy clustering method (SFCM). The clustering performance measurement is done by measuring root mean square error (RMSE). From RMSE measurements, the average values obtained with ANFIS clustering method is smaller 21.80% than with SFCM. This means there is an increase in clustering performance with ANFIS method compared to SFCM.

Abstract

Free space optical system is a hot topic, which has gaining more and more attention. But,when the signal transmitted in the channel ,the performance could be severely degraded due to the atmosphere turbulent. The purpose of this paper is to find a most suitable modulation method for FSO system under FSO channel. The performance of power efficiencies, bandwidth efficiency,BER and SNR for the four modulation schemes have studied and compared in this paper include On-Off keying (OOK), Binary Phase Shift Keying(BPSK),Differential Phase Shift Keying(DPSK) and Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK) without atmospheric turbulence. Numerical   experiments show that BPSK and QPSK schemes are better compared to other schemes in BER performance and power requirements. When take intensity scintillation under Gamma-Gamma turbulence channel into consideration and the average BER is derived with Meijer-G function, BER performances of BPSK and QPSK scheme approximate the same .Compared with BPSK,BER performance for QPSK is 3dB lower .From the simulation results, modulation for BPSK is robust resist turbulence. As a result, BPSK scheme is suitable for free-space optical communication system.

Abstract

In this paper, a new junctionless optical controlled field effect transistor (JL-OCFET) is proposed to improve the device performance as well as achieving low power consumption. An overall optical and electrical performances comparison of the proposed junctionless design and the conventional inversion mode structure (IM-OCFET) has been developed numerically, to assess the optical modulation behavior of the OCFET for low power optical interconnections applications. It is found that, the proposed design demonstrates excellent capability in decreasing the phototransistor power consumption for inter-chip optical communication application. Moreover, the proposed device offers superior sensitivity and ION/IOFF ratio, in addition to lower signal to noise ratio as compared to the conventional IM-OCFET structure. The obtained results indicate the crucial role of the junctionless (JL) design in enhancing the phototransistor performance and reducing the total power dissipation. Such a very sensitive OCFET can be very promising in the future low power optical receiver less compatible to CMOS modern technology for high-quality inter-chips data communication applications.
