Abstract

The smooth variable structure filter (ASVSF) has been relatively considered as a new robust predictor-corrector method for estimating the state. In order to effectively utilize it, an SVSF requires the accurate system model, and exact prior knowledge includes both the process and measurement noise statistic. Unfortunately, the system model is always inaccurate because of some considerations avoided at the beginning. Moreover, the small addictive noises are partially known or even unknown. Of course, this limitation can degrade the performance of SVSF or also lead to divergence condition. For this reason, it is proposed through this paper an adaptive smooth variable structure filter (ASVSF) by conditioning the probability density function of a measurementto the unknown parameters at one iteration. This proposed method is assumed to accomplish the localization and direct point-based observation task of a wheeled mobile robot, TurtleBot2. Finally, by realistically simulating it and comparing to a conventional method, the proposed method has been showing a better accuracy and stability in term of root mean square error (RMSE) of the estimated map coordinate (EMC) and estimated path coordinate (EPC).

Abstract

In this paper the electric field distribution, potential distribution and temperature distribution in a 3-phase underground cable in common ground enclosure is analyzed and presented. Unlike 3-Phase screened cable the stress distribution in a belted cable is not radial. A 3-phase high voltage power cable buried in soil can be used to investigate its electrical and thermal properties. In the present study the voltage distribution of an underground cable of 132 kV is analyzed using FEM and its ampacity and temperature distribution is calculated by analytical method. Further their performance parameter is verified using Comsol Multiphysics software. The results obtained using comsol software is also compared with the results of CSM model which is obtained through literature review.

Abstract

Historically, scholars have been determining deductively critical success factors (CSFs) since the end 1970s. Meanwhile, most of researchers in the information system (IS) project performance studies have been performing inductively this process. Definitely, each of both methods has strengths and weaknesses, but we argue that researchers and practitioners will get an alternative choice if both methods are combined for sharing the caracteristics. This study is conducted to respond this issue. Authors combined both methods using a compatibility analysis to inprove the result validity. This paper contributes to the debates on ensuring the interrelationship between the project succes criteria and their CSFs, incorporating the new factors, decomposing complexity of the project, and understanding focus of the stakeholders in the IS project environment. Although, the proposed method is only a combination of both previous methods, but this proposition is proposed together with a case study to prove its implementation feasibility

Abstract

In space information network, the long delay and high link error rate are the most different characteristics from the traditional ground network. Based on the queuing game theory, a novel congestion control is proposed in this paper. It assumes that the users pay an admission fee for entering the queue, and then cost during the waiting time, at last they obtain a benefit from the node when they are serviced completely. This paper not only designs a variable admission fee in order that the proposed algorithm is more suitable for the space environment, but also considers the ending profits of the game which is described by a discount rate. The simulation result shows the proposed algorithm improve the network performance.

Abstract

Although HTTP adaptive streaming has been well documented for the cost-effective delivery of video streaming, it is still a great challenge to play back video smoothly with high quality under the fluctuating network conditions. In this paper, we proposed a novel bitrate adaptation algorithm for HTTP adaptive streaming. Our algorithm employed two approaches for throughput estimation and bitrate selection, which was evaluated on our testbed (a fully functional HTTP Live Streaming system) over a network, emulated using DummyNet. First, the throughput estimation method, based on the prediction of the difference between the estimated and instantaneous throughputs, was observed to respond smoothly to short-term fluctuations and rapidly to large fluctuations. Second, the bitrate selection algorithm, based on piecewise functions to define the variation range of the current bitrate, was found to result in smoother changes in quality with a higher average quality. The results of our experiments demonstrated the prospects of our bitrate adaptation algorithm for HTTP adaptive streaming.

Abstract

In this paper, the microstrip antenna rectangular patch with beetle shaped slot is presented. The characterization results of the proposed antenna obtained by changing the dimensions of the ground plane. CST software is used to design and analyze this proposed antenna. The simulated results of proposed antenna show that the antenna works at the frequency of 2.1 GHz while the return loss of -32.18 dB with the bandwidth reaches 155.19 MHz and the gain of 3.895 dBi.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to solve the optimal reactive power dispatch (ORPD) problem. Metaheuristic algorithms have been extensively used to solve optimization problems in a reasonable time without requiring in-depth knowledge of the treated problem. The performance of a metaheuristic requires a compromise between exploitation and exploration of the search space. However, it is rarely to have the two characteristics in the same search method, where the current emergence of hybrid methods. This paper presents a hybrid formulation between two different metaheuristics: differential evolution (based on a population of solution) and simulated annealing (based on a unique solution) to solve ORPD. The first one is characterized with the high capacity of exploration, while the second has a good exploitation of the search space. For the control variables, a mixed representation (continuous/discrete), is proposed. The robustness of the method is tested on the IEEE 30 bus test system.

Abstract

In this paper a P-shaped microstrip antenna array is proposed for X-band applications in the frequency range (8.1567-9.3811) GHz .The gain obtained in this frequency range is about 8.305 dBi. The reflection coefficient is less than - 10 dB in the above frequency range. The simulation results were obtained for the optimum parameters using the CST software while the practical test was carried out using Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). The microstrip antenna was manufactured using FR-4 substrate with relative dielectric constant of 4.3 and loss tangent tan⁡〖δ=0.002〗.The simulation and practical results were compared. The size of the antenna array is (33×70×1.6) 〖mm〗^3. This array is suitable for satellite communication, radar application.

Abstract

This paper presents a new approach for improving the performance of the pneumatic positioning system by incorporating a nonlinear gain function with observer system. System identification technique has been employed to represent the pneumatic system, while a model predictive control (MPC) with the observer system has been employed as the main controller to control the positioning of the system. The nonlinear gain function has been incorporated with the control strategy to compensate nonlinearities and uncertainties inherent in the parameters of the system. Unconstrained and constrained cases of control signals have been considered in this study. Simulation based on Matlab/Simulink indicated a reduction in overshoot of the system response for both cases due to additional nonlinear gain function in the strategy. Furthermore, remarkable enhancement was observed in effectiveness of this function while incorporated in constrained case, when this new strategy successfully improved the transient response in the pneumatic positioning system.

Abstract

This paper proposes a small structure of robust controller to control robotic arm’s joints where exist some uncertainties and unmodelled dynamics. Robotic arm is widely used now in the era of Industry 4.0. Nevertheless, the cost for an industry to migrate from a conventional automatic machine to industrial robot still very high. This become a significant challenge to middle or small size industry. Development of a low cost industrial robotic arm can be one of good solutions for them. However, a low-cost manipulator can bring more uncertainties. There might be exist more unmodelled dynamic in a low-cost system. A good controller to overcome such uncertainties and unmodelled dynamics is robust controller. A low-cost robotic arm might use small or medium size embedded controller such as Arduino. Therefore, the control algorithm should be a small order of controller. The synthesized controller was tested using MATLAB and then implemented on the real hardware to control a robotic manipulator. Both the simulation and the experiment showed that the proposed controller performed satisfactory results. It can control the joint position to the desired position even in the presence of uncertainties such as unmodelled dynamics and variation of loads or manipulator poses.
