Abstract

Automated detection of abnormal activity assumes a significant task in surveillance applications. This paper presents an intelligent framework video surveillance to detect abnormal human activity in an academic environment that takes into account the security and emergency aspects by focusing on three abnormal activities (falling, boxing and waving). This framework designed to consist of the two essential processes: the first one is a tracking system that can follow targets with identify sets of features to understand human activity and measure descriptive information of each target. The second one is a decision system that can realize if the activity of the target track is "normal" or "abnormal” then energizing alarm when recognized abnormal activities.

Abstract

Network intrusion detection finds variant applications in computer and network industry. How to achieve high intrusion detection accuracy and speed is still received considerable attentions in this field. To address this issue, this work presents a novel method that takes advantages of multi-kernel computation technique to realize speedy and precise network intrusion detection and isolation. In this new development the multi-kernel function based kernel direct discriminant analysis (MKDDA) and quantum particle swarm optimization (QPSO) optimized kernel extreme learning machine (KELM) were appropriately integrated and thus form a novel method with strong intrusion detection ability. The MKDDA herein was firstly employed to extract distinct features by projecting the original high dimensionality of the intrusion features into a low dimensionality space. A few distinct and efficient features were then selected out from the low dimensionality space. Secondly, the KELM was proposed to provide quick and accurate intrusion recognition on the extracted features. The only parameter need be determined in KELM is the neuron number of hidden layer. Literature review indicates that very limited work has addressed the optimization of this parameter. Hence, the QPSO was used for the first time to optimize the KELM parameter in this paper. Lastly, experiments have been implemented to verify the performance of the proposed method. The test results indicate that the proposed LLE-PSO-KELM method outperforms its rivals in terms of both recognition accuracy and speed. Thus, the proposed intrusion detection method has great practical importance.

Abstract

Landslides in many regions constitute serious hazards that cause substantial life and financial losses. To overcome and reduce the damages, efforts to monitor landslides are developed. One such technology utilizes a wireless sensor network (WSN). Results obtained from studies conducted in the Ikanfoti village, Kupang District, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) Province (S 10o16’ 21.9” and E 123o40’59.8”) as pilot project, give result that the application of WSN can be applied properly. We detect and measure vibrations caused by landslides by vibration sensor (accelerometer) on Micaz devices. The results of this study indicate that changes in accelerometer values ranging from 0.2 g (gravity) to 0.49 g of either the X or Y of accelerometer indicate that soil begins to move but not significantly. Value above 0.5 g is a value that indicating a significant change of ground motion. The value of 1 g and above of ground motion indicates a very strong activity and should be alarmed. It is expected that this research provides the foundation for the application of WSN in various areas in NTT Province and Indonesia in general, for establishing thorough and reliable early warning system (EWS).

Abstract

Adaptive traffic controller systems based on image processing have been developed widely. Nevertheless, in a developing country, the systems often could not be easily applied because all types of vehicle use the same road. Therefore, to overcome the problem, the new concept of the systems is proposed. The systems were developed from a pre-timed traffic controller system that based on AVR microcontroller. By default, the systems use the signal-timing plans to control the vehicle flow. To accommodate the traffic variations, a new method of vehicle detection has been built. The method calculated an intensity histogram standard deviation of the image representing a detection area to determine traffic density of each intersection lane. The systems modified the green-time of each lane based on the traffic density. The method could detect all types of vehicles and work properly in a day and a night time.

Abstract

This paper presents some improvements on the Perturb and Observe (P&O) method to overcome the common drawbacks of conventional P&O method. The main advantage of this modified algorithm is its simplicity with higher accuracy results, compared to the conventional methods. The operation of the entire solar Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) system was observed through two different approaches, which are through MATLAB/Simulink simulation and hardware implementation. A small scale of hardware design, which consists of solar PV cell, boost converter and Arduino Mega2560 microcontroller had been utilized for further verification on the simulation results. The simulation results that was carried out by this modified P&O algorithm showed improvement and a promising performance: faster convergence speed of 0.67s, small oscillation at steady state region and promising efficiency of 95.23%. Besides, from the hardware results, the convergence time of the power curve was able to maintain at 0.2s and give almost zero oscillation during steady state. It is envisaged that the method is useful in future research of Photovoltaic (PV) system.

Abstract

Flood is one type of natural disaster that can’t be predicted, one of the main causes of flooding is the continuous rain (natural events). In terms of meteorology, the cause of flood is come from high rainfall and the high tide of the sea, resulting in increased the water level. Rainfall and water level analysis in each period, still not able to solve the existing problems. Therefore in this study, the proposed integration method of Parallel Time Variant PSO (PTVPSO) and Local-Global Support Vector Regression (SVR) is used to forecast water level. Implementation in this study combine SVR as regression method for forecast the water level, Local-Global concept take the role for the minimization for the computing time, while PTVPSO used in the SVR to obtain maximum performance and higher accurate result by optimize the parameters of SVR. Hopefully this system will be able to solve the existing problems for flood early warning system due to erratic weather.

Abstract

Amplification is one of the most basic and prevalent microwave analog circuit functions. Wherefore power amplifiers are the most important parts of electronic circuits. This is why the designing of power amplifiers is crucial in analog circuit designing. The intent of this work is to present an analysis and design of a microwave broadband power amplifier by using two stages topology. A two stages power amplifier using a distributed matching network for WiMAX applications is based on ATF-21170 (GaAs FET). The configuration aims to achieve high power gain amplifier with low return loss over a broad bandwidth. The proposed BPA is designed with a planar structure on an epoxy (FR4) substrate. The planar structure is also utilized for getting the good matching condition. The advanced design system (ADS) software is used for design, simulation, and optimization the proposed amplifier. The complete amplifier achieves an excellent power gain; is changed between 28.5 and 20dB with an output power of 12.45dBm at 1dB compression point. For the input reflection coefficient (S11) is varied between -20 and -42dB. While the output reflection coefficient (S22) is varied between -10 and - 49dB over the wide frequency band of 3.2-3.8GHz.

Abstract

This paper presented the research result on the design of pulmonary TB (Tuberculosis) detection systems using a statistical approach. The study aimed to address two problems in detecting pulmonary TB by doctors, especially in remote areas of Indonesia, namely the long waiting time for patients to get the doctor's diagnosis and the doctor's subjectivity. We used hundreds of X-ray images from radiology department of Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta, as primary data and thirty data from various sources on the internet as secondary data. Using statistical approach, we exploited statistical image feature from image histogram, examined two statistical methods of PCA and LDA transformation for feature extraction, and two minimum distance classifier in image classification. We also used histogram equalization in the image enhancement process and bicubic interpolation in image segmentation and template making. Test results on primary and secondary data images show the identification accuracy of 94% and 83.3%, respectively.

Abstract

Among conformal phosphor structure, in-cup phosphor structure, and remote phosphor structure, while in term of attaining the highest luminous flux, remote phosphor structure is the most ideal one, it seems to be that this structure results in the lowest-quality of color. Therefore, it is necessary in conducting experiments to surmount this disadvantage and make a possibility in enhancing the color quality of WLEDs with remote phosphor structure. In this research, with the ability of advancing the color rendering index (CRI) and color quality (CQS) for WLEDs, a dual-layer remote phosphor structure was considered as a suggestion. The experiments in this study used three kinds of WLEDs with the similar structures but different color temperatures varying at 5600 K, 7000 K, and 8500 K. The objectives of this paper is proposing a solution to obtain the highest color quality by placing a yellow-green emitting SrBaSiO4:Eu2+ phosphor layer or a red-emitting SrwFxByOz:Eu2+,Sm2+ phosphor layer on the YAG:Ce3+ phosphor layer and then choosing the most appropriate value of SrwFxByOz:Eu2+,Sm2+ concentration. The experimental results which are satisfied expectations of researchers indicated that SrwFxByOz:Eu2+,Sm2+ has enforced its role in managing to raise the CRI and CQS. Particularly, the greater concentration of SrwFxByOz:Eu2+,Sm2+ leads to the higher the CRI and CQS, since the red light component in WLEDs increased. Besides, the quality of luminous flux is in a tight connection with the SrBaSiO4:Eu2+ phosphor layer. Whereas, according to the Mie scattering theory and the Lambert-Beer law, if the concentration of SrwFxByOz:Eu2+,Sm2+ and SrBaSiO4:Eu2+ becomes redundant, the luminous flux and color quality will take a deep dive. Briefly, the results from this article has largely contributed to fabricating high-quality WLEDs.
