Abstract

Considering objects in the environments (or scenes), object detection is the first task needed to be accomplished to recognize those objects. There are two problems needed to be considered in object detection. First, a single feature based object detection is difficult regarding types of the objects and scenes. For example, object detection that is based on color information will fail in the dark place. The second problem is the object’s pose in the scene that is arbitrary in general. This paper aims to tackle such problems for enabling the object detection and tracking of various types of objects in the various scenes. This study proposes a method for object detection and tracking by using a particle filter and multiple features consisting of color, texture, and depth information that are integrated by adaptive weights. To validate the proposed method, the experiments have been conducted. The results revealed that the proposed method outperformed the previous method, which is based only on color information.

Abstract

A digital color images are the most important types of data currently being traded; they are used in many vital and important applications. Hence, the need for a small data representation of the image is an important issue. This paper will focus on analyzing different methods used to extract texture features for a color image. These features can be used as a primary key to identify and recognize the image. The proposed discrete wave equation DWE method of generating color image key will be presented, implemented and tested. This method showed that the percentage of reduction in the key size is 85% compared with other methods.

Abstract

Institutions are currently progressing on IT development and maximization in order to advance for good IT governance. Lack of comprehensive requirements analysis of IT utilization may lead to hindrances within IT development from achieving effective outcomes. This quantitative study employs control objective for information & related technology (COBIT 5) business framework to assess and identify the maturity level of IT service, primarily within the domain of delivery, service, and support (DSS). Data were obtained through questionnaire, observation, and documentation. The result reveals that the average maturity level of IT service is in level 3 (established); by which the study recommends for enhancements and upgrades in IT performance and service within the scope of compliance and IT service application and support.

Abstract

For the past two decades, tremendous advancements have been achieved in the electricity industry. The usage of non-linear loads in the daily life has affected the power quality of the system and caused the presence of harmonics. To compensate the harmonic currents and reactive power in the system, the design of shunt hybrid active power filter has been proposed in this research. The design of the filter has included several control systems of instantaneous active and reactive power (p-q) theory and PI controller to investigate the performance of the filter. The robustness of the designed hybrid power filter has also been benchmarked with the other filter topologies available in literature. The hybrid power filter will combine passive power filter and active power filter configurated in shunt connection. The result of this research showed that the total harmonic distortion analyzed is below than 5% according to IEEE-519 standard requirements and reactive power is compensated proved by the increase in power factor. The shunt hybrid active power filter is designed, and simulation result is analyzed by using MATLAB-Simulink environment.

Abstract

Electronic banking (e-banking) is a form of banking in which funds are transferred through an exchange of electronic signals along to the traditional banking process as the exchange of cash, checks, or other types of paper documents. Moreover, the general tendencies of the Iraqi government in line with other countries to adopt e-banking and provide e-services to customers. However, the determinants of e-banking services need to investigate to determine the variables affecting the rate of such adoption. Thus, the main aim of this study is to identify the determinants of e-banking services in Iraq. Hence, this study gives an investigation using the technology acceptance model (TAM) by selecting a sample for many Iraqi banks' customers and staff to determine the determinants of user acceptance of e-banking. A preliminary study was conducted to empirically determine the user acceptance determinants of e-banking. For data collection, a quantitative method was used represented by the questionnaire. The selected sample for the investigation is 200 (customers and staff). Several methods have used for data analysis such as hierarchical regression, one-way ANOVA, descriptive statistics, t-test as well as structural equation modeling (SEM). The obtained outcomes show there are several determinants of e-banking services in Iraq that have determined in this study. Moreover, this study confirms the overcoming of those determinants will give a highly positive impact on e-banking services.

Abstract

In this paper a real time Single Spherical Tank Liquid Level System (SSTLLS) has been chosen for investigation. This paper describes the design and development of a Multi Model PI Controller (MMPIC) using classical controller tuning techniques for a single spherical nonlinear tank system. System identification of these different regions of nonlinear process are done using black box modeling, which is identified to be nonlinear and approximated to be a First Order Plus Dead Time (FOPDT) model. A proportional and integral controller is designed using LabVIEW and Chen-Hrones-Reswick (CHR), Zhuang-Atherton (ZA), and Skogestad’s Internal Model Controller (SIMC) tuning methods are implemented in real time. The paper provides the details about the data acquisition unit, shows the implementation of the controller, and comparision of the results of PI tuning methods used for an MMPI Controller.

Abstract

The failure reasons of reciprocating sealing in OPI-1800AWS fracturing pump are analyzed by scanning electron microscope technology (SEMT). The lubrication mechanism of plunger seal friction pair is analyzed by hydrodynamic lubrication theory. During its discharge and suction stroke, the reciprocating sealing friction pair meets the conditions of hydrodynamic lubrication, a certain thickness of oil film can be formed and maintained between the plunger and V-shaped sealing interface, which can lubricate sealing pair, reduce friction and improve lifetime. The axial pressure distribution of the V-shaped sealing is carried out by theoretical analysis and experimental testing. According to the distribution curve of axial pressure, the V-shaped sealing failure and the determination of the number of loops are discussed.

Abstract

The major weaknesses of traffic controllers in Indonesia are unable to accommodate the variety of traffic volume and unable to be coordinated. To solve the problem, a pre-timed and coordinated traffic controller system is build. The system consists of a master and a local controller. Each controller has a database containing signal-timing plans that would be allocated to manage vehicle flows. To synchronize the signal-timing, the master controller sends the synchronization data to the local controller wirelessly and the local controller shifts the end of a cycle by adding or subtracting the green interval of any phases. The transition time for synchronization only takes one to several cycles. The algorithm for controlling the traffic including coordination can be done by an AVR microcontroller. Memory usage of the microcontroller is lower than 10% meanwhile the CPU utilization is no more than 1%, thus the systems could be widely developed.

Abstract

In this paper, an inventory model for deteriorating items under two levels of trade credit will be established. The trade credit policy depends on the retailer’s order quantity. When the retailer’s order quantity is greater than or equal to a predetermined quantity, both of the supplier and the retailer are taking trade credit policy; otherwise, the delay in payments is not permitted. Since the same cash amount has different values at different points of time, the discount cash-flow (DCF) is used to analysis the inventory model. The purpose of this paper is to find an optimal ordering policy to minimizing the present value of all future cash-flows cost by using DCF approach. The method to determine the optimal ordering policy efficiently is presented. Some numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the model and sensitivity of some important parameters are illustrated the optimal solutions.

Abstract

A simple method to improve stator flux regulation of a direct torque control (DTC) of induction motor drive is presented. By using this method, the simple control structure of DTC is retained and no modification to the voltage vectors look-up table is required. To implement this technique, the index to the look-up table is modified so that the reverse voltage vectors are selected (instead of zero-voltage vectors) whenever the stator flux regulation fails. To study the viability and the effectiveness of this simple method in improving the flux regulation at low speed, experiments are conducted to a ¼ hp induction motor with DTC technique. The control algorithm is implemented using a DS1104 controller board with Xilinx FPGA.
