Abstract

An inherent torque ripple characterizes switched reluctance technology from conventional technology. The ultimate aim of this paper is to reduce the torque ripple of the switched reluctance motor drive using genetic neural network controller based direct torque scheme. In the proposed controller network appropriate bits of data are chosen for training and testing. The proper selection of the learning rate and momentum will help in weight adjustment. Here the error is reduced which proves that the selection of voltage vectors from the vector table is precise and its results in better torque response over a wide range of speed. The simulation results reveal that the torque ripples vary between 3.25% to 1.7% for the variation in load torque and the drive speed. The experimental results for the proposed controller reveal that the torque ripple varies between 3.7% to 2.1%. Both the simulation and hardware results illustrate the efficiency of the controller.

Abstract

The acute shortage of trained and experienced sonographers causes the detection of congenital heart defects (CHDs) extremely difficult. In order to minimize this difficulty, an accurate fetal heart segmentation to the early location of such structural heart abnormalities prior to delivery is essential. However, the segmentation process is not an easy task due to the small size of the fetal heart structure. Moreover, the manual task for identifying the standard cardiac planes, primarily based on a four-chamber view, requires a well-trained clinician and experience. In this paper, a CNN method using U-Net architecture was proposed to automate fetal cardiac standard planes segmentation from ultrasound images. A total of 519 fetal cardiac images was obtained from three videos. All data is divided into training and testing data. The testing data consist of 106 slices of the four-chamber segmentation tasks, i.e. atrial septal defect (ASD), ventricular septal defect (VSD), and normal. The segmentation of the post-processing method is needed to enhanced the segmentation result. In this paper, a combination technique with U-Net and Otsu thresholding gives the best performances with 99.48%-pixel accuracy, 96.73% mean accuracy, 94.92% mean intersection over union, and 0.21% segmentation error. In the future, the implementation of Deep Learning in the study of CHDs holds significant potential for identifying novel CHDs in heterogeneous fetal hearts.

Abstract

Image composition involves the process of embedding a selected region of the source image to the target image to produce a new desirable image seamlessly. This paper presents an image composition procedure based on numerical differentiation using the laplacian operator to obtain the solution of the poisson equation. The proposed method employs the red-black strategy to speed up the computation by using two acceleration parameters. The method is known as modified two-parameter over-relaxation (MTOR) and is an extension of the existing relaxation methods. The MTOR was extensively studied in solving various linear equations, but its usefulness in image processing was never explored. Several examples were tested to examine the effectiveness of the proposed method in solving the poisson equation for image composition. The results showed that the proposed MTOR performed faster than the existing methods.

Abstract

eXtensible markup language (XML) appeared internationally as the format for data representation over the web. Yet, most organizations are still utilising relational databases as their database solutions. As such, it is crucial to provide seamless integration via effective transformation between these database infrastructures. In this paper, we propose XML-REG to bridge these two technologies based on node-based and path-based approaches. The node-based approach is good to annotate each positional node uniquely, while the path-based approach provides summarised path information to join the nodes. On top of that, a new range labelling is also proposed to annotate nodes uniquely by ensuring the structural relationships are maintained between nodes. If a new node is to be added to the document, re-labelling is not required as the new label will be assigned to the node via the new proposed labelling scheme. Experimental evaluations indicated that the performance of XML-REG exceeded XMap, XRecursive, XAncestor and Mini-XML concerning storing time, query retrieval time and scalability. This research produces a core framework for XML to relational databases (RDB) mapping, which could be adopted in various industries.

Abstract

Currently, cloud service providers have used a variety of operational mechanisms to support the company's business processes. Therefore, the services are stored on the company's server, which presents in the form of infrastructure, platform, software, and function. There are several vulnerabilities that have been faced in the implementation such as system failure, natural disasters, human errors, or attacks from unauthorized parties. In addition, the time of unavailability of services can be minimized by doing an LM, in which many servers have been used the containers to behave like a service provider. Actually, its existence replaces the virtual machine that requires more resources although the process only can be done through docker with checkpoint and restore in userspace (CRIU). In this research, LM processes are done to the docker container using CRIU by analyzing the quality of service (QoS), memory, and CPU usage. Thus, the simulation is carried out by establishing the LM using 2 (two) different platforms through scenarios with one and three containers respectively. The performance analysis results aim to examine several indicators in comparison with the achievable result to reduce problems that occurred in the cloud service.

Abstract

Laser communication between satellites in the constellation and from the satellites to ground stations offers a gigantic data rate for the users. This principal advantage drives telecom companies to develop this technology to use it like a carrier signal, the most disadvantage of this technology is the need to very complicated pointing systems between the transmitter and the receiver due to a very small beam divergence, continually moving of satellites in orbits and the distance between the satellites (tens of thousands of kilometers). The laser beam suffers continuously from several factors like atmospheric turbulences, internal and external vibrations. All these factors lead to an increase in the bit errors rate and cause degradation in the communication quality. This paper deals with a new method of modelisation of external effects in transmission of signal light from a ground station to the satellite through atmospheric disturbances. Indeed, an in-depth investigation, of the influences of satellite vibrationsinlaser signal transmission between satellites constellation, has been conducted by studying the effect of the intensity of vibrations on the optical signal amplitude. Some solutions are proposed to improve the efficiency of optical satellites communications.

Abstract

In latest years, indoor positioning techniques have gained much attention, because of the absence GPS signal, so this paper shows a low priced mobile mapping system through using the advantages of integrating inertial navigation with smartphone sensors information concerned to a previous training phase with a magnetic map properly computed to more accurate positioning. Thus, areal online data sets were compiled through the use of ultra wide band to furnish an accurate positioning on the whole area of test and compute a trajectory used as a reference. Then, the use of the pedestrian dead reckoning based approach and IMU help to supply external information from the Wi-Fi signal that is used to exploit the received signal strength path loss, which is possibly used to assess the space between the device and access points. Furthermore, these real online data sets have been processed using Matlab to illustrate the different paths of the area of test. Also, using all RSS for every path line, different images were created. Finally, the positioning efficiency that is possible to be realized using information from IMU and UWB accelerated the fingerprinting training phase. So, the graphical analysis is used to summarize the results that match the closest path to the true path using mutual information.

Abstract

Currently, marine transportation in the world still uses fossil fuels. In addition to running low on supplies, fossil fuels also cause emissions that cause global warming. Sea transportation generates around 1,000 million tonnes of CO2 emissions. Therefore, the exploration of alternative energy is becoming a popular research direction. Several renewable energy sources include solar and wind energy. Indonesia has an average wind speed of above 8 m/s at sea. Also, the energy potential of the sun is around 4.8 kWh/m2. Based on the potential of these renewable energy sources, this study discusses the potential of renewable energy sources from sunlight and wind, which are implemented in the prototype catamaran ship. The results obtained from the experiment, the total energy of photovoltaic (PV) and wind turbine generators is 774 Wh. This energy can be used to charge a battery with a battery specification of 35Ah for 6 hours.

Abstract

In order to increase the optical features of white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs), quantum dots (QDs) and phosphor materials have been proposed because of outstanding performance. The configuration of WLEDs with QDs layer and phosphor-silicone layer suggested placing these components separately to limit light loss, and enhance consistency at contact surface of QDs. In this research, the effects of QDs and phosphor on the performance of WLEDs are concluded through experiments. The emitted light and PL spectra were examined thoroughly, and infrared thermal imagers were applied to simulate the heat generation of an actual WLED device. The results show that with the configuration of 60 mA energy source, WLEDs which has the QDs-on-phosphor form attained luminous efficiency (LE) of 110 lm/W, with color rendering index (CRI) of Ra=92 and R9=80, whereas the WLEDs which has the phosphor-on-QDs form only has 68 lm/W in LE, Ra=57 and R9=24. Furthermore, WLEDs which has the QDs-on-phosphor form has less high temperature generated at the components’ conjunction in comparison to the counterpart, the peak generated heat in QDs-on-phosphor WLEDs is also lower and the heating capacity gap between 2 structures can go up to 12.3°C.

Abstract

Many sophisticated smart door lock systems have been made. Still, most of them required the user to use an additional device such as a smartphone, tag, smartcard, or accessing some user interfaces, which is complicated to use for inexperienced elderly. This condition creates a gap between the elderly and technology which makes it difficult for the elderly to accept and use the technology. In this paper, we proposed a smart and real-time door lock system for an elderly user based on local binary pattern histogram as a face recognition algorithm with modular system architecture design. The novelty in our proposed system design, it does not require any additional device, it does not use any user interface, and the least user participation by automating the processes. All the user needs to do just walk toward the door and stand in front of it and the door will automatically unlock and locked back after the user enters the house and close the door. The system resulted in an accuracy of 98%, with an average processing time is 1.449 seconds for the entire process. Additional advantages, the system is designed with a modular approach that makes it flexible and scalable for further development.
