Abstract

In 2005-2007, Indonesian electronic cinemas (soup operas) full of religious- mystique contents. This genre usually named as religious or Islamic electronic cinema. These electronic cinemas are popularly considered representing religiosity and Islam. So, the question will be answered by this study is: in these electronic cinemas, what signifying practices which considered as the representation of religiosity and Islam? Answering this question, author applied Barthes's semiotics. Some research outcomes were resulted. First, there were more than 44 titles of religious electronic cinemas during 2005-2007. Second, three categories of these cinemas: the story of sinner which being tortured, the story of the successful tough, and the story the sinner which repent. Third, four signifying practices used to show that the content of these electronic cinemas are matching with Islamic doctrine: the titles use Islamic idioms, the resource of stories claimed as fact, use popular Islamic preachers, the narrative is Islamic sermon.

Abstract

This article is based on the theory that public opinion has important role in the democratic system. In this system, government should be responsive to public opinion that has rised in society, in which that is the only way for government to be sustained. Hence, informing public opinion, media have big influence to affect people's perception through the agenda setting. By shaping the agenda setting, the issue that is considered important by the media will be treated the same by public. Sharp reportage to the issue will influence public opinion, then, affect the government policy. Bibit-Chandra vs Polri issue proves this theory. Eventually, covering the case will not only influence government policy but also people assessment to government.

Abstract

Communication technology development has affected media industry. This condition forces media industry to adapt in order to keep them in the competition. Media industry now should operate in multi-platform basis. In corporate theme, one challenge that media should answer is building new corporate identity. The steps to build corporate identity are defining problem, planning and organizing the direction, acting and communicating, and program evaluation. This paper is discussing how PT Kompas Media Nusantara build their corporate identity in television industry. The brand Kompas is well-known as a daily newspaper. By 2011, Kompas held their own television stadion named KompasTV. This paper consist of four parts. First is introduction, describes about KompasTV and the media shake-up phenomenon in Indonesia. Second is literature review consists of corporate communication and corporate identity. Third is discussion about how KompasTV build their corporate identity. The fourth part is conclusion.

Abstract

Di banyak negara, perspektif Barat masih mendominasi pendidikan Kehumasan. Pada faktanya, perspektif Barat ini tidak selalu sesuai untuk diaplikasikan di negara atau wilayah yang memiliki perbedaan budaya. Dominasi Barat ini terjadi karena kurangnya kajian mengenai Humas yang menggunakan perspektif selain Barat. Pada akademisi memandang perlunya pengembangan perspektif lain dalam pendidikan Kehumasan. Salah satu perspektif yang dapat memanfaatkan kesempatan ini adalah perspektif Islam. Bagian awal tulisan ini menjelaskan mengenai dominasi Amerika Serikat dalam pendidikan Kehumasan dan kritik yang berkaitan dengannya. Bahasan berikutnya adalah bagaimana melakukan inkorporasi perspektif Islam ke dalam kurikulum pendidikan Kehumasan, dengan menggunakan studi kasus. Bagian terakhir tulisan ini adalah kesimpulan, yang mencatat beberapa tantangan yang akan dihadapi dalam mengembangkan pendidikan Kehumasan yang menggunakan perspektif Islam.

Abstract

Fairy tales is a kind of story told orally by our parents from one generation to another. Mainly, the main story is about “beauty”: the princess should be beautiful and the prince should be handsome and know how to fight. When fairy tales such as Snow White adapted into movies, issues related to the concept of beauty is not left behind. This is part of main depiction represented within this kind of film that leads to many stereotypes. This research focuses on how stereotypes of beauty are represented in two fairy tales-based adaptation films, Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) and Mirror mirror (2012).In terms of the methodology, this research employs Roland Barthes’s thought, especially his structural semiotic analysis. By applying Barthes’s “two orders of signification” (denotation and connotation), the analysis focuses on three thematic elements: body, costume, and characteristic.

Abstract

Media Literacy is a concept which enable audience to negotiate their own meaning when interact to media. This concept is needed because media content can be bias and inaccurate. The reality in media, especially television, does not reflect the social reality. It is constructed by the process of gate keeping and media framing. As a consequence, the reception process becomes complicated since the way audience receive the messages depends on the knowledge and skill they have.

Abstract

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) has been operating in Papua since 1967 until finished its join operating agreement in 2041. During those years (until 2005) PTFI claimed that it has been giving so much for the community of Papua with its CSR. But, the fact is there is unfairness between what has taken and given. There is still contradictive between the condition of PTFI on the one side and the Papuan on the other side. They still suffer for hunger, low quality of life and education. This paper tends to portray those unfairness and contradiction.

Abstract

This article studied the latest issues of media convergence that was facilitated by the internet and mobile technology, and also its influence on conventional media. Further, the discussion developed around the implications of media convergence towards principles and practices of conventional journalism. Although some principles that were related with basic ethics continued to be maintained in accordance with the universal journalism values: accurate, objective,fair, balance, and neutral, but in practice, the presence of online journalism reduced the conventional journalism techniques. The change happened due to the role of the journalist, gatekeeper, the medium, and the audience's behavior. To clarify discussions, the author will explain Detikcom's experiences in managing online news site as an actual case.

Abstract

In competitions era and declinations of public interest, university needs to do branding activities by using several communications media. One of them is public relations (PR). PR has special role in branding activities by its capabilities to build image and creates publicity. In order to run its role, increasing PR competences and dominant coalitions, related with PR position in management, are needed.

Abstract

Indonesian political changing after 1998 reformation didn't show democratization in the broadcasting and information, on the public side to be exact Actually, the freedom of information has been happen, but the media content is still directed by the media owners, capital and profit, not by the public interest The growing community television, as one of Indonesian broadcasting contemporary phenomena, appears the hope of broadcasting democratization back. The participative ownership and diversity of content become the main points of this media. Community television can play the role of social empowerment media, every information comes from, by and for the community itself. However, some real problems must be solved to develop community television, that are paradigm of community media, resources, technical problems and regulation problems.
