Abstract

Teaching English for young learners always gets more attention. It is because young learners are very unique. They have many characters which can change rapidly in one time. Sometimes, they display an enthusiasm for learning and a curiosity about the world around them. They also have a need for individual attention and approval from the teacher. They are keen to talk about themselves, and respond well to learning that uses themselves and their own lives as main topics in the classroom. However, they also have a limited attention span. They can easily get bored, losing interest after ten minutes if the activities are not extremely engaging.Considering those characters, there should be good ways how to treat children in delivering materials. One of ways is by exposing and utilizing children‘s senses. The senses are Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Olfactory, and Gustatory (VAKOG). It will be very useful because a teacher not only gives something to be seen but also invites them to get involved mentally and physically. In this case, the teacher will prepare a set of teaching material where this material has very tight relationship with activities done in class. For instance, when teacher will teach part of body, she or he will prepare some pictures, songs, games, and other activities related to body‘s part. These are intended to strengthen children‘s knowledge.

The children speaking skill is influenced by many factors, one of which is the birth order. It describes how a particular child is born from the same mother such as the eldest, the middle, and the youngest child. This will actually shape character and ability of the children. Based on its function, a language is a means of communication used by individuals in their interaction or relationship with others. The speaking ability is not only related to the birth order, but also some other factors such as intelligence. The middle child usually has more speaking skill compared to the eldest and youngest child. He/ she can communicate from different directions, and his/her position gives its benefits. The middle child can develop the speaking skill from parents, older brothers/ sisters, and younger brothers/ sisters. No matter the position of the child is, his/ her speaking ability can optimally be achieved if the parents provide opportunities to communicate and practice based on his/ her needs.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reveal the hidden motives of the White behind race and class struggles in Carl Lee‘s case of murdering two local young white men who had raped his 10 years old daughter, Tonya, and left her bruised and bloodied. Lee, a black man, who used to have good relations with the White stood against the White at the court when he decided to kill the rapists in his own hands as his revenge to his daughter. The story was not simply telling readers about the races and classes struggles between the Black and the White but another important point to notice was the wilingness of some white people who posted themselves in Lee‘s side that led further conflict of the White against the White.

Abstract

Of the many different dialects of English such as British English (hereafter BrE), American English (hereafter AmE), Australian English (AsE), or Canadian English (CnE) or even Singaporean English (hereafter Singlish), etc, the most common widely use across the globe are BrE and AmE. The two dialects of English, as a matter of fact, are dominantly used in any kinds of fields to mention a few such as politics, economics, diplomatic relationship, medical, information communication and technology (ICT), and education as well. The debate about the use of BrE and AmE often centers on education especially in the process of learning and acquiring the English itself because the two dialects of English provide some different and distinctive features. Because of their differences and distinctive features, the learners often find difficulties and often make them confused which one to use. This paper is attempting to review the unique features of BrE and AmE focusing on the spellings.

Abstract

This article deals with English spelling in relation with its segmental and suprasegmental realizations. The reciprocal relationship between English spelling and its pronunciation is mostly arbitrary, and thus unpredictable. However, a closer observation on certain verbal markers, one of which is a verb-marker ‗-fy‟ indicates that to some greater extent itssegmental and suprasegmental realizations are highly predictable.Firstly, English verbs ending in „-fy‟must be segmentally realized as [-faI]. Secondly, English verbs ending in „-fy‟ must be stressed on the antepenultimate syllable.A minor exception exists, but a high degree of accuracy is recorded. Owing to the high degree of predictability of its segmental and suprasegmental realizations, the verb-marker ‗-fy‘lends itself to be a predictor of accurate pronunciation. Therefore, teachers as well as students of English as an SL or FL can improve their pronunciation by relying on this observation findings.
