Translating Indonesian texts into English versions is a complicated task for students to do. It isshown by them when they do translation in the classroom. The problems usually come intotheir mind when they have to search equivalent words, appropriate grammar and acceptedstructure for target language they will produce. This scene can be observed when they dotranslating activity individually. They just do it themselves without doing collaboration with theirfriends. They only look up a dictionary and think of it themselves. In this situation a teacher justassigns the task and assesses it, no more to do. As a result, the translation products of thestudents are poor. Therefore, in order to improve the students’ translation ability and quality oftranslation, the teacher should teach the students translation by using a Cooperative WorkProcedure (CWP) in their translation process. This procedure can lead the students be able totranslate well and produce good translation products because they do translating process in acollaborative group.

I will explore qualitative data to analyze the process of the teaching and learning English in Kudus and to identify the need of the learning materials. The subjects of the research are five English teachers’ from a Junior High school in Kudus, they have been teaching English for more than ten years. They have been teaching from different classes, class 7, class 8, and class 9. This study has discovered the challenges and difficulties in learning and teaching in Junior High School in kudus. Most teachers feels that time management become their major challenge in organizing classroom. They have set lesson plan, but sometimes the lesson does not work exactly the same. They have to work with mixed-level students, with students with learning difficulties, and with learners who are coming from different backgrounds. Teachers should be aware that it is part of teachers’ primary duty to cope with every student. Most students can learn a foreign language to some level, but there are many reasons why their improvements are not achieved significantly.

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the destructive impacts of the beauty myth on the existential freedom of Pecola, the young, poor, black female character, in Toni Morrison‘s ―The Bluest Eye.‖ The analysis is done through feminist criticism supported by the concept of the beauty myth and beauty as well as Sartrean concept of existentialism. The result shows that the widely spread beauty myth blocks Pecola‘s existential freedom on the physical, consciousness, or social life level. All these lead to young Pecola‘s ruined existence.

Reading texts for literary experience is different from reading them for information. Actually, there are two general stances (efferent and aesthetic stances) readers may choose when constructing meaning and responding to literature. In the efferent stance the reader’s purpose is primarily to gain information and analyze the author technique. The emphasis is on recalling, paraphrasing, and analyzing details. In the aesthetic stance the reader’s purpose is primarily to “live through†the experience presented in the text and to associate the text with personal experience and feelings. The emphasis is on personally connecting with the text as one reads, developing deeper insights into the human experience and responding thoughtfully to the ideas and insights presented. Thus, it is necessary to apply a strategy in teaching reading literary texts. One of useful strategies for comprehending and discussing literary selections is a snowballing strategy. To apply the strategy in teaching reading literary texts, action research is used as a research methodology. This research is carried out in one of the 4th semester classes, literature study program, Semarang State University.

Twitter plays an important role in today’s world. Its role among politicians and those who are interested in politics is more obvious. Due to its importance and special characteristics such as character limits, it has drawn the attention of many researchers including linguists and ELT researchers. This study aimed to compare the perceptions of native and nonnative speakers in identifying speech acts in Donald Trump’s tweets. The subjects of this study were nine English native speakers and twenty nonnative English teachers who were Turkish citizens. Thirty- seven tweets of Donald Trump over the course of a week were selected and the participants were asked to identify the speech acts of the tweets based on the speech acts taxonomy by Searle (1976). The analysis of the data revealed that both native and nonnative speakers of English identified the speech acts of the large majority of the tweets very differently. These differences were partly due to lack of enough political as well as background knowledge and partly due to lack of contextual variables.

Students of higher education in the global world need to have sufficient knowledge and skill in utilizing ICT (Information and Communication Technology) to face national and regional competition. To achieve this outcome, higher education (university) through its lower units - faculty and department can facilitate it through Self-Access Centre (SAC). English Department of Univeritas Negeri Semarang is one of the state universities in Central Java, Indonesia which has SAC used for academic purposes. This study is aimed at 1) finding benefits of SAC in a course ‗ICT in Language Learning‘, 2) reporting its benefits to promote independent learning, and 3) finding constraints faced in utilizing SAC. This study used qualitative approach employing SWOT analysis. The data is gained through three instruments: direct observation, interview, and study document. Two classes of ICT in Language Learning were taken as the objects of the study. The results showed that the students of the English Department gain benefits of SAC as they are facilitated with lots of facilities both software and hardware. Then, the students can also produce their own teaching media through utilizing available media independently. It can be seen from how the students can use free available online products such as Edmodo, Moodle, Skype, Wikispaces, Pbwork, and Tumblr with their creativities and modifications for learning objectives. Furthermore, SAC needs to have good management which involves not only from the department but also from faculty and university.
