Abstract

Religion in society has been a complex study for both academic and non-academic disciplines. Definingreligion had become an issue since the beginning of world religions. This issue will continue to remain insociety, unless world religions avoid imposed definition of religion from the world religions’ perspective. This research aims to study about how religion had been defined by many scholars theologically, politically, culturally, contextually, and how such different approaches never reach the consensus of understandingtoward defining religion. In many cases, the definition of religion was imposed by scholars who havepower of knowledge and intellectual in the discipline of world religions. The power of defining religionfrom the world religions’ perspective becomes challenging for people, such as indigenous people whocontinue to practice their religion from the origin of their fore-parents until today. Religion defined byworld religions from the transcendental perspective had led to discrimination against other indigenousreligions in various parts of the world, such as the Naga people in India.

Abstract

During revolution era, Indonesian government used and traded opium for struggle funds. This decisionwas based on the fact that the social, economic and financial was shattered due to Japanese occupation.Whereas the government should provide substantial funds to pay the war operations, employeesalaries and soldiers, buy weapons of war, and pay representatives abroad. This paper constitutesas the result of historical studies, that is why it uses historical method and methodologies. Historicalmethod constitutes as a historian guidelines to find historical documents. Historian is like “handyman”who collects historical sources such as archives and documents in “warehouses” archives and libraries. When written sources are considered as not enough, then those will be held interviews with historicalactors involved directly or indirectly to the problem under study. Historical method constitutes aworks of historian from processing facts, explanations to the reconstruction of the results under study.Methodology provides the framework of thinking as historian, that is why, it needs to pay attentionto the concepts and theories in preparing the events of the past. This study is based on the methodfrom Ernst Bernheim, that are heuristic, criticism, auffassung and darstellung. Indonesian governmentfully managed and controlled the opium trade and circulation in Java. The management was led bythe Vice President Office assisted by two ministries, namely the Ministry of Finance and Ministry ofDefence Quartermaster Section. Under those two ministries, there was the Mayor Administrative Officeof Opium and Salt in Surakarta which coordinated major offices in several cities, especially in Kediriand Yogyakarta. The Administrative Office of Opium and Salt in Kediri stored raw opium. Then, rawopium was sent to processing factory in Wonosari and Beji Klaten. The cooked opium was sent to TheAdministrative Office of Opium and Drug in Yogyakarta or The Mayor Administrative Office of Opiumand Salt in Surakarta. Abstract

Dubbed methaporically as “sex without secretions”, cybersex has transformed the sexual practice and the meaning of erotica. This article seeks to explore the issues of sexuality in cyberspace, particularly its virtuality and embodiment in cybersex.  Many discussions on cybersex revolve around issues of accessibility, affordability and anonymity that draw sharp lines between the real and the virtual. Therefore, in this article I argue that cybersex does not completely distinct from sexuality in the real world due to the interpenetration process between sex in the virtual and real world.

Abstract

The role of women artists in the performing arts, also within the arts as well as the other broader life, inIndonesia, seems to be strengthening in recent years. It doesn’t mean that it is a new issue, of course. Butperhaps it happened since Indonesia experiencing and witnessing a great change of mainstream withinit self since 1998; this issue, as well as the other critical issues gaining a more free momentum and spaceof expression. Of course, this still needs further scrutinization. The superiority of women is not limitedto the mith in which giving special space for them, but indeed women have strong key role as the escortof performing arts. Women have the central key in promoting traditional arts; however, there is womenrole shift in the stage of performing arts. Women artists in the culture posseses inevitable duality ofposition. They are praised as high as the sky, in the other hand they are also insulted, abused, and usedas a profit-making commodity. Besides their beautiful manner and behaviour, women are also capableof breaking through the boundary of culture. Women as the mother earth who’s also identical withthe symbol of fertility, paragon, and the parameter of values and norms that is expected by the socialcommunity, are also capable of fulfilling the promises attached into the miths that praise and adorethem. Therefore, it is their nature that they have the central role in the success of a performing art bothtraditional and modern. Serious problems in the world of performing arts occur when women artists tryto promote tradition. Inner conflict uccur between their basic nature and their environemntal condition. In this case, pressures are not only coming from the social environment but also from within. In fact, the soul of tradition survives and sustain from their very hands. When the stage experiences shift, therole of women as the escort of the tradition is also fading. Performance industry does properly placestage women as a subject but only as a commodity to attarct the market for the capitalists. Together, weshould be able to solve this problem if we still want women to attend in the world of performing artsand change the world into a more colorful one.

Abstract

This research is motivated by crisis, especially of UGM (Universitas Gadjah Mada) identity andof philosophical foundations of its scientific development. This study aims to inventory, analyzesynthesize, critically evaluate, as well as construct a philosophical foundation of scientific development originating in UGM values. The study employs a reflective, systematic philosophical research model.Data consists mainly of documents data, supported by field data collected through participantobservation and in-depth interviews. Material objects of research are values contained in the university’slegal basis or statute, symbols of its identity attributes, and thoughts of its leaders, while formal objectof research is philosophy, particularly philosophy of values (axiology) and philosophy of science. Datawill be analyzed using elements of methodical study of philosophy, especially interpretive analysis in aheuristic framework to come to conclusion. The results show that: First, history of ideas indicates that GMU scholars have proposed andjustified concept and model of scientific development based on GMU (Gadjah Mada University)values, that is the concept of “Pancasila as (1) guidance (2) orientation and (3) paradigm of scientificand technological development.” Scientific models that were successfully developed are (1) Pancasilaicscience and knowledge and Science of State and Law of Pancasila (Ilmu Negara dan Hukum Pancasila)by Notonagoro; (2) Pancasila Economics (Ilmu Ekonomi Pancasila) by Mubyarto; and (3) PropheticSocial Science (Ilmu Sosial Profetis) by Kuntowijoyo. Second, the concept of scientific developmentdeveloped by GMU-based scholars is actually built on basic assumptions that science is not value-freeand, thereby, teleological, i.e. acting for the sake of human civilization, usefulness, and happiness. These axiological and metaphysical assumptions are heavily influenced by a metaphysical belief that recognizes the existence and power of God. These axiological and metaphysical assumptions epistemologically imply that there is a source of knowledge and truth other than scientific knowledge and truth.

Abstract

The Bajo people are known as the sea wanderers because they always wander the sea. However, aside from their unique characteristic as people of the sea, the Bajo are also known as Muslims. Therefore, Islam is an important element of their identity, either reflected in their daily life or written in the manuscript Lontarak Assalenna Bajo as the form of self-narration of their cultural history. Islam has been accepted through a continual process of negotiation and development. The Bajo people were not Muslim before they became sea wanderes. They received the influence of Islam from the land-bound people surrounding them as a result of interactions between the two groups.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the perception and motivation of the local community toward post-conflicttransmigration program in West Aceh. The research method used in this article is a combination of bothqualitative and quantitative approach. The technique of processing data uses statistical test of crosstabulation (crosstab), Chi-Square, and Spearman correlation test. For collecting samples, this article usespurposive sampling method with the total sample size of 120 respondents. The results shows that therelationship between the level of perception and the motivation for transmigration are high enough andpositively correlated −the more increasing perception of the local community toward the transmigrationprogram, the more increasing motivation to people for transmigration. Meanwhile, the motivationwhich affects the community to join the transmigration program is the motif of independence.

Abstract

The provision of Green Open Space (GOS) constitutes an important need for city and as a mandate ofthe Law on Spatial Planning. Ungaran city currently has the width of public GOS under 20%. It makesUngaran city has not yet qualified to become a Green City. The objectives of this study are to identify andanalyze the width and distribution of GOS existing condition; to analyze the needs of Ungaran’s GOSin order to meet the specified conditions of prevailing law; to arrange the plan of GOS based on GreenPlanning concept; and to arrange the design of GOS based on Green Design concept. The analysis willbe conducted by using Patch Analysis method. The analysis of GOS is based on the inhabitant’s needand the wide area, and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The GOS mapping result of Ungarancity is 2.190,66 ha which consists of private GOS (2.112,74 ha) and public GOS (77,92 ha). Based onthe total projection of population in 2032, the public GOS need is 292,41 ha. Whereas the needs ofpublic GOS based on the 20% from wide area (612,17 ha). The direction of public GOS developmentbased on green planning is divided into three alternatives, first, based on the balance distribution ofGOS within the area, and land use priority; second, based on the balance distribution of GOS, land usepriority, distance to the residence, minimum width of 250m2, and the complexity of landform; third, based on the consideration of the spatial patterns and regional asset authority. The direction of publicGOS development is based on green design approach to divide the design based on necessity activityand function patterns of public GOS.
