Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper is based on the basic preposition that local wisdom contains values of virtue that can contribute to the development of public ethics. By examining the Pela cultural institutions in Maluku, this paper intends to answer two main questions: what is Pela’s value of virtues and how to link these values in the framework of developing public ethics relevant to inclusive humanity. The writing aims to offer a thought about public ethics by digging its source from one of the local wisdom of the people of Maluku, namely Pela. The development of the public ethics perspective refers to the concern about the actual context of society, namely pluralism, ethnicity and religion. In this paper, in addition to literature review, the author also uses participatory observation methods and in-depth interviews as data collection techniques, while data analysis is done in the groove of attending, telling, transcribing, analyzing, reading and rewriting. Through this paper, the author arrives at the finding that not only religions are the source of the values of virtue, but also local wisdom (local genius). Pela also has the values of the virtue, such as brotherhood, equality and goodness. The excavation and discovery of these values contribute to theoretical thinking and public ethical praxis, particularly in a pluralistic Indonesian context. Keywords: Pela, public ethics, pluralism, local wisdom.

Abstract

AbstractPhilosophy of language is a movement of thought which contribution in overcoming the problems of human being cannot be neglected. One of this movement’s prominent thinkers is Gilbert Ryle whose thoughts have influenced the later thinkers. In spite of the fact, the significance of Gilbert Ryle’s thought has hardly been studied in Indonesia as frequently as his contemporary philosophers such as Ludwig Wittgenstein and J. L. Austin. This research is intended to explore Gilbert Ryle’s thought on the concept of ordinary language and to describe its relevance to the character education in Indonesia. The description of his thought’s relevance is intended to find its effectiveness in overcoming one of the problems of human being life. This Research is a kind of library research. Hermeneutical method is used to analyze Gilbert Ryle’s thought on the concept of ordinary language and, afterwards, it will be described the relevance of his philosophical thought to the concept of character education in Indonesia. The result of this research is that the task of philosophy according to Gilbert Ryle is activity of language analysis in accordance with ordinary language. It must be separated between achievement statements and task statements, and between dispositional statements and occasional/episodical statements. This distinction is a way to avoid the category mistake. Therefore, it is from this point that Gilbert Ryle’s thought can give a useful contribution to education in Indonesia trough the analysis toward the concept of character education in Indonesia. Keywords: The concept of ordinary language, character education, category mistake.

Abstract

This article presents an attempt to uncover evidence of philosophical traditions in the Islamic world that are agreed to "die" as alleged by some. Philosophical traditions in the Islamic world ended the conflict after al-Ghazali and the death of Ibn Rushd. Philosophical traditions in the Islamic world continue to live and develop, even here and there are being renewed. Some philosophers after al-Ghazali's attack and the death of Ibn Rushd even presented directions and corrections that were completely different from the tradition of thought that had previously been carried out. Search through various readings, and references show the typology and tendencies. This philosophical tradition with a completely different style, direction, and tendency reach its peak at the hands of Mulla Sadra. Mulla Sadra then referred to several experts as figures who succeeded in synthesizing the three traditions of thought that had once lived in Islam. In the end, this article presents a search for philosophical typologies that grew and developed after the al-Ghazali attack and the death of Ibn Rusyd.

Abstract

Pathet is one of the most important parts in a puppet performance. Unfortunately, discussions about pathets, especially from a metaphysical perspective are very rarely found so that the wayang metaphysics is not comprehensive. This study examines the metaphysical dimensions in the puppet performance pathet in Anton Bakker's metaphysical perspective, with the aim to complete the existing puppet metaphysics studies. This research uses the methodical method of assessment, namely interpretation; induction and deduction; internal coherence; holistic; historical continuity; idealization; comparison; heuristics; inclusive or analogous language; and description, and reflection. The results of this study indicate that: first, pathet is a representation of the concept of harmony in puppet shows. Pathet is a transcendental ontological norm in puppet shows. Transcendental ontological norms, in the perspective of Anton Bakker's ontology thinking, are called harmony. In other words, it can be said that the pathet is a representation of harmony or ontological norms that apply in a puppet show. All aesthetic elements of the show are returned to the pathet, and must remain in the corridor of the applicable pathet.

Abstract

This paper explains the narrative in the study of history which has only been understood as a way of telling what should have happened, not what really happened. Narrative as a philosophical thought will be able to reveal not only the factual side but also the actual side. As a philosophical thought, the narrative should be able to provide a new understanding that narration is not just telling (history as a story), but also how can narration be used to explain the historical actuality? Through a new understanding of narrative, history actually as science becomes parallel to other sciences as philosophy. Historical narratives then present "stories" to "facts explained". Thus, history is present and humane because it is always actual. History as a narrative, thus not only makes history a discourse with a dissertation of evidence but also history as a way of abstracting objects in factual thinking.
