Abstract

Background: Intensive care unit (ICU) services are complex and high-risk areas of care. Patients and their families often experience emotional distress due to clinical uncertainty and limited interaction during treatment. Objective: This study aimed to explore the experiences of patients and family members regarding ICU services at Rumkital dr. Wahyu Slamet Bitung. Methods: A qualitative study with a phenomenological approach was conducted from September to November 2025. Four participants (one patient and three family members) were recruited using purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Colaizzi’s method to identify essential themes. Results: Seven themes emerged: emotional dynamics of intensive care, quality of care and clinical communication, family as a clinical companion, system and resource constraints, caregiver burden, social-spiritual coping and support, and expectations regarding family support. Conclusion: The experiences of patients and families in the ICU are characterized by tension between emotional vulnerability and the need for a sense of safety, strongly influenced by communication, family involvement, and system capacity. Strengthening structured communication and family-centered practices should be prioritized to improve the ICU care experience. Keywords: family; intensive care unit; patient; phenomenology

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) treatment requires long-term adherence, often complicated by social, psychological, and family-related factors. Family support, empowerment, and patient self-efficacy have been suggested to improve treatment adherence and outcomes. Objective: To synthesize evidence on the effectiveness of family support, self-efficacy, and related interventions in improving TB treatment adherence using the PICOT framework. Methods: A narrative literature review of 10 studies (2017–2025) was conducted. Studies were selected based on relevance to family support, self-efficacy, and TB treatment adherence. Evidence was summarized according to the PICOT elements. Results: Family support and self-efficacy significantly improved patient adherence, self-care, and psychosocial well-being. Interventions included counseling, family education, and social support. Most studies were cross-sectional, limiting causal inference, and relied on self-report. Outcome measures varied, with limited long-term follow-up and few clinical outcome assessments. Conclusion: Family-centered and self-efficacy–enhancing interventions are effective strategies to improve TB treatment adherence. Future research should adopt longitudinal or experimental designs to evaluate clinical outcomes and intervention sustainability

Abstract

Background : Endometriosis adversely affects the sexual quality of life of women of reproductive age. The role of endometriosis-associated pain in female sexual dysfunction remains incompletely understood. Objective : To assess the relationship between endometriosis-associated pain and sexual quality of life in women of reproductive age. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at Prof. R.D. Kandou Hospital in 2025 among women aged 18–47 years with surgically confirmed endometriosis. Female sexual dysfunction was assessed using the female sexual function index. Bivariate analyses were performed to compare demographic characteristics and female sexual function index domains between women with and without sexual dysfunction. Results: Eighty-five participants were included, of whom 70.6% were classified as having female sexual dysfunction. The mean index score was 24.24 ± 2.34. Significant differences were observed in arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain domains (p < 0.001). Body mass index was also significantly associated with female sexual dysfunction (p < 0.001), whereas other demographic variables and the desire domain were not. Conclusion: Female sexual dysfunction is highly prevalent among women with endometriosis and is associated with impairments across multiple domains of sexual function. Management strategies should address sexual health comprehensively and not be limited to pain control alone. Keywords: Endometriosis; female sexual dysfunction; female sexual function index

Abstract

Background: Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) remains a global concern. Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Family support is crucial for improving the health of TB patients. Objective: The purpose of this systematic review is to examine the relationship between family support and the recovery status of TB patients. Methods: The systematic review used three databases. A total of 20.291 articles were retrieved, with 13 articles meeting the criteria for analysis. Results: family support for pulmonary TB patients can improve their health. Conclusion: Therefore, increased family education is needed to provide optimal care for sick family members. The better the family's knowledge, the better the family's role will be fulfilled.
