Jurnal Didaktik Matematika is a periodical academic journal that is published by Master Program of Mathematics Education, Syiah Kuala University Banda Aceh incorporating with Himpunan Matematika Indonesia (Indonesian Mathematical Society/IndoMs) and Research Institute of Syiah Kuala University as well as being supported by the board members who are experts in the area. This Journal is published twice a year (April and September).
This journal was established on December 27, 2013 and published its first edition in April 2014. This Journal publishes new and original research in the field of mathematics, mathematics learning, technology, mathematics, and realistic mathematics education.

Mathematics is a subject that can train students in developing critical thinking, logical, creative, effective and systematic as well as assist in the development of personality and reasoning power of a person. Hopefully, with these capabilities that students can face all kinds of challenges in today's modern era. This study aims to determine the increase in critical thinking skills students acquire mathematical learning with problem based learning model in terms of: (a) the whole student, and (b) the level (high, medium, and low) ability of students. This study uses a quantitative approach with the experimental method. The population in this study are all class XI student of SMK Negeri 5 Banda Aceh and a sample of the research is class XI RPL-1 as an experimental class and class XI RPL-2 as the control class. The data were analyzed with the average gain is normalized between the two classes. The results showed that an increase in the ability of critical thinking mathematical students acquire learning with problem based learning model is singnifikansi better than on the ability of critical thinking mathematical students who received conventional learning when viewed from the overall and by level (high, medium, and low) ability of students.

Prospective mathematics teachers should have met the Pirie-Kieren model of understanding indicators, to become professional teachers. The purpose of this research is to describe the layers of understanding structure that is filled by students of mathematics teacher prospectives. The description is based on a model hypothesized by Pirie-Kieren. Research subjects selected from female and male mathematics teacher prospective students have been given the task of understanding the concept of derivative functions and interviewed. Data collected from students’ answers from worksheets before the interview, students’ answers from worksheets during interviews, and interview transcripts. After the data were analyzed qualitatively, the description of the understanding layer structure of two subjects grouped by the original Pirie-Kieren Model was obtained. The subjects of female had met the indicators of primitive knowing, then there are the processes of image doing and image reviewing on the layer structure of image making towards image having, then image seeing and image saying on the layer of image having to property noticing, then there are the processes of property predicting and property recording on the layer of property noticing towards formalizing, then there are the processes of method applying and method justifying on the layer of formalizing towards observing, then there are the processes of future identifying and feature prescribing on the layer of observing towards structuring, and there are the prosesses of theorem conjecturing and theorem proving on the layer of structuring towards inventising. She almost fulfilled the inventising layer. Male subjects also meet the same understanding indicators as women. Both subjects have almost fulfilled a layer of creation, we called inventisingoid

The learning process of mathematics, especially the one related to the characteristic of cylinder, at elementary school or at the other higher level of school only required the students to memorize the concept of it without comprehending its meaning. Based on that reason, it is a need to have an appropriate learning approach to help the students in understanding the characteristics of cylinder. This research aims to describe the learning activity of cylinder characteristic by using Realistic Mathematics Education (RME). There were five students of grade V from SDN 3 Sigli who were involved in this study.Byusing the approach, the students were motivated to learn about cylinder characteristics more meaningfully. The use of the appropriate context that matches with the students’ culture also became a strong foundation for them in possessing a meaningful experience toward the material. It also can lead them to have more formal learning experiences (identifying the characteristics of cylinder). There were three kinds of activities that are conducted in the study and were related to introduction the characteristicsof cylinder. They were glueing by using different colour, drawing a tissue place, and unloading the model of the tissue place. The use of concrete objects that relates to the culture of the students to develop their ability in understanding the material of the cylinder was the first step in learning the cylinder volume concept

Currently, some students habitually answering questions with one answer. They only use the certain formula or certain steps to get answer. Thus, the ability of problem-solving and optimism that should have owned by students is not visible because of the habit of completing routine problem. Whereas the ability problem-solving and optimism is needed in the face of all the challenges that occur. This is becaused people who are able to solve the problem would be receive every event, whether it is good or bad events. They will seek the solution of problem faced and anticipate every possibility that occurs to the measures that have been selected. This study aims to determine (1) the ability of students to problem-solving and (2) optimism of students in problem-solving. This is qualitative research with test of problem solving and guided interview of optimism as instruments. Subject of this research is six students grade VIII of Junior High School at Peukan Pidie, Aceh. The results show that three students have good problem-solving ability, three other students have enough abilitiy in problem-solving. Optimism of students in problem-solving based on the dimensions of optimism is three students optimist at dimension PMG, three other students not optimist. One student was optimist on the dimensions of PVG, five other students not optimist. Five students are optimist on the dimensions of PSG and PMB, one student not optimist. All students are optimist on the dimensions of PVB. Two students are optimist on the dimensions of PSB, four students are not optimist

The purpose of this study to determine enhancement the ability of understanding and communication mathematically by applying the Problem Based Learning (PBL) in the learning activity. The population in this study were students of SMAN 3 Banda Aceh with a sample of two classes. Type of research is experimental with pretest-posttest control group design. The experimental group was treated with a model of learning in the form of PBL and the control group with conventional learning. Data were collected using achievement test and observation sheets during the learning takes place. The results of data analysis showed that 1)there are significant differences in increased ability mathematical understanding of students who received PBL learning compared to conventional learning are reviewed as a whole and based on the level of students, 2) there is an interaction between the factors of student learning at low levels and moderate to increased understanding of mathematical abilities, but no interaction at a high level because the student already has a good ability of mathematical understanding, 3) there are significant differences in enhancement communication skills students acquire mathematical learning by PBL compared to students who received conventional learning is reviewed based on the whole student, but there is no difference if the review is based on the level of the student, 4) there is interaction between the factors of student learning at low levels and moderate to increased mathematical communication but no interaction at a high level because students already have a good mathematical communication skills.

Creative thinking ability of students is still low and less attention in the implementation of the learning of mathematics. Some efforts are needed to foster creative thinking ability because of lack of creative thinking ability in the learning of mathematics. One of effort is applying Problem Based Learning (PBL) Model. The purpose of this research was (1) to describe the creative thinking ability of students during the learning process with PBL Model, and (2) to determine the increase of the creative thinking ability of students after implementation of PBL model. This research used mixed methods with concurrent triangulation strategy. Samples were selected by random sampling from all grade 8 students from one of junior high school at Banda Aceh, those were 28 students in class VIII-3. The instrument used to obtain data of the creative thinking ability of students after learning with PBL Model was test and observation. The instrument used to obtain data to determine the increase of the students’ creative thinking ability after learning with the PBL model were pretest and posttest. Test and observations were analyzed by using an assessment rubric of creative thinking abilities with descriptive qualitative method. The result of pretest and posttest were analyzed by statistical tests using t-test. The results showed that the students were creative in solving problems during the learning process with model of PBL. There was increasing creative thinking abilities of students after learning with PBL Model. The implication of this research indicates that creative thinking abilities of students increase through PBL model.

The purpose of this study was to determine the differences between improvement of mathematical reasoning abilities of students who obtain a model of learning through discovery learning and students who received conventional teaching. This research was a quantitative study with experimental method, that has pretest-posttest group design. The population was all students at MTsN Lambalek by taking samples of two classes, namely class-VIIIA as the experimental class and VIIIB as the control class. Then, the data were collected by using testing techniques. The collected data were analyzed by ANOVA. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the students' mathematical reasoning abilities in experimental class was better than the control class which was reviewed based on the whole student and grouping students.

The purpose of this research is to know the effect of using RME approach in problem solving process on mixed calculation material in class IV SD IT Adzkia I Padang. This research is a quantitative research with the static group comparizon design: randomized control group only design. The population of this research are all the fourth grade students of SDIT Adzkia I Padang. The sample of this research are khandaq 1 class and Khandaq 3 class with 56 students. Data were obtained through learning observation sheets, preliminary tests, and final tests. From the analysis of the data, it is found that there is a significant result of students’ problem solving skill in mixed calculation material problems in Class IV SD IT Adzkia I Padang. It can be seen from the test of the research hypothesis t-count = 3.003 greater than t-table = 1.67356 at the real level α = 0.05.

Various attempts have been made to overcome the difficulties students learn mathematics. One is to apply Realistic Mathematics Education (Pendidikan Matematika Realistik/PMR). PMR can potentially improve the ability of students’ mathematical representation, including fraction. This study used a qualitative approach with classroom action research. The goal is to understand the mathematical representation ability of fourth grade students at SDN 1 Sibreh, Aceh, through PMR for fraction topic. This research was conducted in two cycles. The participants were 4 students-one student was high rank (S1), two students were midle rank (S2 and S3), and one student was low rank (S4). The data collected in this study includes process and outcome. Data collection instruments include students’ worksheets, the observation sheet and test sheet. The results of this study were (1) The percentage of the average score of students and teachers activities that are good categories in both the first cycle and the second cycle. (2) The percentage of students’ mathematical representation ability increased from 77% in the first cycle to 82% in the second cycle. It can be concluded that learning through Realistic Mathematics can improve the students’ mathematical representation ability about at grade IV SDN 1 Sibreh.

The purpose of this study to determine the increase of mathematical communication skills and independent learning that students acquire learning using learning approach problem posing aided mind map. This study used an experimental method with quantitative approach to research design pretest-posttest control group design. The study population was all students of class VII Islamic Solidarity School Jantho Aceh Besar. Sampel consists of two classes, namely the experimental class and control class taken with random sampling technique. To determine the increase in communication and independent learning ability of students between the group problem posing approach aided by a group mind map problem posing without a mind map used the t-test at the 0.05 significance level. The results showed that the increase in mathematical communication skills and independent learning that students acquire learning by problem posing approach aided mind map better than students who received no mind problem posing approach. Problem posing approach aided the mind map in learning can improve communication skills and independence of student learning mathematical form rather than the problem posing without a mind map. Aided learning approach problem posing a mind map can be used as an alternative learning that can improve mathematical communication skills and student learning independence.
