Abstract

Nutritional status among adolescents is a global and national issue. Being overweight is a condition where a person's weight exceeds normal body weight, caused by excess fat accumulation. The impact of being overweight in adolescents will be a risk factor for degenerative diseases in young adulthood and old age. The study aimed to determine the distribution of nutritional status, daily caloric intake, and the relationship between caloric intake and nutritional status among adolescents. This study was conducted in an analytical observational manner with a cross-sectional design. This study was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Tanjung Pinang to 262 grade IX students. Results: Most respondents were male (51.9%), aged 15 (58.8%). The nutritional status of most subjects was in the normal category (44.7%), with 30.5% being underweight and 24.8% overweight or obese. The study results showed a relationship between calorie intake and nutritional status in students aged 13-15, with a p-value = <0.001 using the Chi-Square Test.

Abstract

Pityriasis versicolor is a superficial fungal skin disease and a global health concern. Scavengers working under the scorching sun with behaviors such as not showering immediately after work, rarely changing work clothes, and using damp towels are at an increased risk of developing P. versicolor. This study aimed to determine the relationship between personal hygiene and the occurrence of P. versicolor among scavengers at the Sukawinatan landfill. The research employed an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional design and total sampling technique. Forty-eight scavengers who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were included as study subjects. Personal hygiene data were collected through questionnaires, while data on P. versicolor were obtained from clinical symptoms and examinations using a Wood's lamp. The results showed that 22.9% of the scavengers at the Sukawinatan landfill had P. versicolor. Fisher's Exact test revealed a significant relationship between personal hygiene and the occurrence of P. versicolor, with a p-value of 0.002 (p < 0.05) and a Prevalence Ratio (PR) of 5.200 (PR > 1.000). In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between personal hygiene and the occurrence of Pityriasis versicolor among scavengers at the Sukawinatan landfill.

Abstract

Apolipoproteins are structural components of plasma lipoproteins that involved in lipoprotein metabolism and lipid transport, reflect the number of circulating atherogenic particles. This study aims to investigate the correlation between serum apolipoprotein B levels and the degree of coronary artery stenosis in patients with chronic coronary syndrome. A cross-sectional study design was used, involving 34 patients selected from a total population of 69 individuals. Data were collected from July 2024 to September 2024. The results showed that most respondents had elevated apolipoprotein B levels, with a mean value of 141.41 ± 25.06 mg/dL, and SYNTAX score of ≥ 23, with a mean value of 24.09 ± 2.69. Pearson’s correlation test indicated a significant relationship between apolipoprotein B levels and SYNTAX scores (p = 0.029, r = 0.376). Multivariate analysis revealed a significant p-value for apolipoprotein B (p = 0.017) with a positive regression coefficient.

Abstract

Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is a public health problem, especially among low-income populations in developing countries. This study aims to examine the relationship between demographic and socioeconomic factors and the incidence of RHD at Dr. Soetomo General Hospital, Surabaya. This is an analytic study using a cross-sectional approach, with 284 respondents in 2024. Primary data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS. The Chi-Square test revealed a significant relationship between age and RHD (p = 0.000 < 0.005), particularly among individuals aged 40-59 years. Other variables, such as gender, residential area, population density, and economic status, did not show a significant association. These findings underscore the need for targeted public health interventions specifically designed for specific age groups. Further research is recommended, utilizing larger sample sizes and a more detailed classification of RHD severity levels, to enhance prevention and disease management strategies.

Abstract

Constipation is a common digestive problem that is divided into primary (functional) and secondary. Functional constipation is diagnosed using the Rome IV criteria, which include symptoms such as straining, hard stools, incomplete defecation, and a sensation of anorectal obstruction. Adolescents, as a transitional phase of puberty, are vulnerable to mental health problems that can affect digestion. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between mental health and functional constipation in 308 grade 10 students of SMA Negeri 1 Surakarta (October 10, 2024) using a cross-sectional design. The independent variable was mental health (the Rome IV red flag question), while the dependent variable was functional constipation (Rome IV and BSFS). Chi-square analysis showed a significant association between depression and functional constipation (p=0.006; OR 4.09; 95% CI 1.403–11.913). Psychological conditions have been shown to trigger constipation, so early detection, prevention, and counseling with parents, teachers, and health professionals are important to improve the quality of life of adolescents.

Abstract

Acne vulgaris, or acne, is a common skin problem among adolescents, primarily due to hormonal, physical, psychological, and social changes. This study aims to analyze the impact of acne on body image, self-esteem, and self-confidence among adolescents in Islamic boarding schools. A quantitative method with a case-control design was used on 170 respondents (90 cases, 80 controls). The research instruments included the BAS-2 for body image, the GSES for self-confidence, and the RSES for self-esteem. Analysis was conducted using the chi-square test (95% CI) and path analysis. The results showed that acne directly affected body image (b=0.64; p=0.042), self-esteem (b=-1.16; p=0.001), and self-confidence (b=-0.70; p=0.045). Indirectly, body image affected self-esteem, and self-esteem affected self-confidence. These findings confirm that acne has a significant impact on the psychological aspects of adolescents, thus requiring special attention in efforts to improve mental health and social support.adolescents. Body image indirectly influence self-confidence through self-esteem, and self-esteem also has an indirect effect through self-confidence.

Abstract

Smoking is a habit that has a negative impact on health, but now many children are starting to smoke from an early age. Elementary school children aged 6–12 years are in the process of forming basic knowledge, including an understanding of the dangers of smoking. This study aims to assess the level of knowledge of students at SD NEGERI 9 RAPE-RAPE about the dangers of smoking. This descriptive study with a cross-sectional design involved 83 respondents selected using total sampling and a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was performed descriptively using frequency distribution and ANOVA tests. The results showed low knowledge about smoking (84.3%) and the dangers of smoking (57.8%), with significant differences between classes (p<0.05). These findings indicate the need to improve health education and integrate material on the dangers of smoking into elementary school learning.

Abstract

Cancer pain is the main symptom experienced by patients with central nervous system (CNS) tumors and significantly affects quality of life. A cross-sectional study at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital, Palembang (March–June 2025) involved 89 patients using consecutive sampling. Data were obtained from medical records and structured interviews. Quality of life was assessed using the EORTC QLQ-30, while pain intensity was assessed using the NPRS. The majority of patients were female (56.2%), aged <60 years (75.3%), with secondary (55.1%) and intracranial (76.4%) tumors. Most experienced mild pain (56.2%) and received non-opioid therapy (70.8%). Results showed a moderate quality of life, with relatively high cognitive function, but pain intensity was negatively correlated with quality of life (r = -0.321; p = 0.002). Severe pain increased the risk of poor quality of life 4.7-fold, while tumor type increased the risk 5.1-fold. These findings confirm that effective pain management, appropriate analgesic selection, and definitive therapy play an important role in improving the quality of life of CNS tumor patients.

Abstract

Hepatitis B is a major global health problem that is deadly, with the risk of transmission being through blood. Therefore, blood safety efforts are carried out by screening for Transfusion-Transmitted Infections (TTI). This study aims to analyze the relationship between occupational type and reactive TTI screening results for HBsAg in donors at the Indonesian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Unit in Makassar City in 2022–2023. This study used a cross-sectional analytical descriptive design utilizing secondary data from 665 voluntary donors whose TTI screening results were reactive to HBsAg at the Indonesian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Unit in Makassar City in the period 2022–2023. Data analysis to examine the relationship between occupational variables and reactive TTI results was performed using the Chi-Square Test. The results showed a significant relationship between occupation and reactive TTI results of HBsAg donors with a p-value of 0.018 (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that occupational type may act as a risk factor for possible exposure to or infection with the hepatitis B virus.
