Abstract

Title : The Study of Aspergilus flavus  and Aflatoxin in Peanut Culture on Selected Dry-Land Fields at Karanganyar District. The study was aimed at: 1) Obtaining the data of Aspergilus flavus and Aflatoxin existence in soil and peanut pod of selected dry-land fields at Karanganyar district; 2) Observing the correlation between soil characteristics and the existence of Aspergilus flavus and Aflatoxin. This research was a comparative descriptive experiment, which was conducted from May to November, 2008. The method was by surveying five sub-districts of dry-land fields included: 1) Tasikmadu; 2) Karanganyar; 3) Mojogedang; 4) Jumantono, and 5) Jaten. The observation parameters were consisted of main variables (A. flavus in soil, A. flavus in peanut pod and aflatoxin in peanut pod) and sub-main variables (pH, organic C, total N, soil moisture content and peanut pod’s moisture content). The mean test was then employed to process the obtained data after the laboratory analysis, followed with correlation test to determine the interaction between main and sub-main variables. The results showed that all the selected locations were infected with A. flavus, with the highest population in soil was in the Jaten sub-district (143 cfu.g-1 soil) and the highest population in peanut pod was in the Jumantono sub-district (50.67 cfu.g-1 pod). None of the peanut pods were infected with aflatoxin. Total N, carbon C, pH and soil moisture influenced the existence of A. flavus in soil and peanut pod. Abstract

Title : Study on The Potency of Soil Microbes Isolated from Andisols of Dieng, Central Java,  as S-Oxidizing Biofertilizer Inoculant. The problem of nutrient deficiences tend to increase, including sulfur deficiency. The use of high purity NPK fertilizers stimulate sulfur deficiency in agricultural land. This problem can be corrected by the use of elemental sulfur accompanied with S-oxidizing biofertilizer. The study aimed to evaluate the potential of sulfur oxidizing microbial isolated from Andisols of Dieng Central Java as S-oxidizing inoculant. Andisols Dieng naturally contains high sulfur that allegedly inhabited many sulfur-oxidizing microbials. The research consisted of two experiments, each arranged in completely randomized design (CRD). Each experiment consist of two factors namely the kind of microbial isolated from Andisols Dieng and incubation time. The first experiment used Czapek-dox+elemental sulfur medium, while the second experiment used vermicompost as medium. The observed variables include soluble-S, bacterial density, biomass of fungi and medium pH. One isolate of bacteria (I1)and three isolates of fungi (F1, F2 and F3) taken from Andisol of Dieng showing their ability to oxidize sulfur in Czapek-dok agar medium. They were used as isolates in the experiment. The result of the first experiment showed that the oxidized sulfur increased with the length of incubation time as indicated by the increase of soluble-S, bacterial cell density or fungi biomass in the medium followed by the decrease of pH. The second experiment showed that the population of bacteria or fungi isolates and soluble-S of vermicompost were increased collaterally with incubation time. The fungi isolate of F2 have the highest potency as inoculant of S-oxidizing biofertilizer as shown by it ability to survive, grows and oxidize S both in Czapek-dox+elemental sulfur liquid medium as well as in vermicompost medium.

Abstract

Title : The Effect of Leucite Grain and Nitric Acid Concentration on Potassium Availability of Bengawan Solo Entisols with Peanuts as Plant Indicator (Arachis hypogaea.  L). Research in the Glass House of Agriculture Faculty of Sebelas Maret University have been made to study the effect of Leucite grain and nitric acid concentration against availability of potassium from Bengawan Solo Entisols made in April – September 2006. This research is a causal relationship functional research; the approach is done with variables factorial experiment using Complete Random Design (CRD) with 2 factors and 3 times repeated. First factor is adding the Leucite grain (L) consist of 4 stage, that is L0 (without Leucite), L1 (using 5 mesh of Leucite grain), L2 (using 30 mesh of Leucite grain) and L3 (using 80 mesh size of Leucite grain). Second is adding acid concentration of nitrate (M), consists of 4 stage that is M0 (without nitric acid), M1 (adding 0.1M of nitric acid), M2 (adding 0.2M of nitric acid), and M3 (adding 0,3M of nitric acid). The first shaken with second factor for 24 hours before applied to soil. Analysis of data is using Analysis of Variance and Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. Results of research shows the high K dissolved value on the acid concentration of nitrate with 10-1M after the first 24 hours shaking between the two factors, with soluble K value 172.52 cmol/kg of L1M1 addition, 120.48 cmol/kg of L2M1 addition, and 188.13 cmol/kg of L3M1 addition. Adding Leucite grain and nitric acid concentrations have lower soil available K value at the time of incubation with a value that is lower than 0.30 cmol / kg (L0M0 – control of treatment). In stage of maximum vegetative, the additions of two factors have to increase the value of average soil available K was 0.30 cmol/kg on the L3M2. K absorption by plants has the highest average value of 0.73 mg/ kg on L3M3 Keyword: Leucite, Nitrite acid, potassium availability, potassium absorption, weathering

Abstract

The Effect of Industry Waste in Josroyo, Karanganyar to Copper (Cu) Concentration in Water and Top Soil of Pungkuk Ditch. The purpose of this research was to know the effect of industry waste water distance in Jaten – Karanganyar on Cu concentration in the water and soils at Pungkuk Waterworks, also to know Cu concentration on that waterworks. The kind of this research was explorative research. The independent variable was treatment of take some water and soils sample at 0 km, 0.5 km and 1 km distance from pollutant source at Pungkuk Waterworks and control. The result showed that distance where farther can because concentration Cu concentration change in the soils were heightening but can because Cu concentration change was descending. The heightening of Cu concentration change in the soils was effect of Cu acumulation in the soils. The descending of Cu in the water because precipitation of water Cu and. The value of water pH was influenced by water EMC value. From sample analysis result showed that there was not dirtied of heavy metal especially Cu (between 0.094 – 0.122 ppm). Abstract

Title : The Growth and Quality of Anthurium hookeri  on Various Boron Application. Anthurium hookeri is one of ornamental plants having high economical and aesthetic value, however they growth slowly. For accelerate their growth can be done by giving accurate nutrient and appropriate concentration. Boron is one of essential nutrient for plant having important role in cell wall and translocation carbohydrate. The aim of this research is to study the effect of applying boron on growth of A. hookeri and to find out the appropriate boron concentration for growth of A. hookeri. The research was arranged based on Split Plot Design with 2 factors and 4 replicates. The main factor was the kind of A. hookeri (green and red) and the sub plot was boron concentration with 4 levels e.i (0; 0,3; 0,6; and 0,9 ppm). The data observation ware analyzed by variance analysis and continued by Duncan Multiple Range Test in level 95 %. The research showed that there was no interaction between the kinds of A. hookeri and boron concentration. Application boron 0,3 ppm increase plant height, number of leaf, and width of leaf red A. hookeri, application boron 0,9 ppm rise plant height, number of leaf, width and quality of the green A. hookeri. Abstract

Title : The Effect of Maturity Level of Empty Fruit Bunch Compost and Mulch from Palm Oil Waste to Tomato Productivity in Ultisol. This research was conducted to understand the effect of maturity level of empty fruit bunch compost and mulch from palm oil waste to tomato productivity in ultisol soil. This research used split plot design with mulch as main plot and maturity level of compost as sub plot. The mulch consists of four types: control, shell, fiber, and chopped of empty fruit bunch. The maturity level of compost consists of 5 levels: control, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks, and 10 weeks. Material used in this research was tomato Ratna variety. Compost of 8 weeks gave the lowest value of C/N ratio (35.16) than 4, 6, and 10 weeks. This compost also had the highest level of N-total, P and Mg: 1.34 %, 0.08 %, and 0.25 %. Compost containing the lowest C/N ratio and higher nutrition gave better vegetative growt. Compost of 8 weeks and fiber mulch provided the highest harvest weight and the highest number of fruit (436.56 gram and 16 fruits). Fruit number and fruit weight were lower than general tomato cultivation because of soil condition. Soil type was ultisol which had lower acidity level. The lower KTK level of this soil made distruption in nutrients uptake. Compost of 8 weeks could increase harvest weight 52.59 % higher than control and also could raise number of fruit 82.53 % higher than control. Shell mulch presented negative effect to growth and productivity of tomato.

Abstract

Title : Efficiency of S Up Take and Rice Yield with Quail Manure and Inorganic Fertilizer in Paddy Soil (Season II). The aim of this research was to know the effect of inorganic fertilizer quail manure to efficiency of Sulphur up take and to know treatment combination that give highest rice yield. This research had been done at Palur, Mojolaban, Sukoharjo, started from January until August 2008. This research used factorial experiment that arranged in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two factors. The first factor was 3 levels of inorganic fertilizer dosage i.e.: without inorganic fertilizer, 50% recommendation dosage and 100% recommendation dosage (urea, ZA, SP‐36 and KCl were 300, 100, 150 and 100 kg. ha‐1). And second factor was 3 levels of quail manure dosage i.e.:0, 3 and 6 ton.ha‐1. Statistical analysis used F test, Duncan’s Multiple Range (DMR) test at 5% in level and Correlation test. The Result of this research showed that, interaction between inorganic and quail manure increased significantly efficiency of S uptake. Dosage quail manure increased significantly total weight of dry hust. The highest efficiency of S uptake was on 100% recommendation dosage inorganic fertilizer and quail manure dosage 3 ton.ha‐1 (44.12%). The highest total weight of dry hust on 50% recommendation dosage inorganic fertilizer and quail manure dosage 6 ton.ha‐1 Key words: quail manure, efficiency of S uptake and paddy soil
