Abstract

This research aims to find the teacher condition in teaching relating to the use of instructional media. This study used   descriptive qualitative method to gain the data in which the the researcher play his role as the major Instrument and put the teachers as the key informant while the secondary informant is the principal. The results of the research shows that the teachers were satisfied with what he/she has always do, and they feel there is no need to be changed or developed on the pattern of teaching and learning with the help of the media. This research conclude that teachers  assumee that teaching does not suported by various types of media and it make them have lack ability to use the learning media.  Finally, this reseach recomend the teacher to change their habbit in using the media while the school leader provide them with opportunities to utilize the media in their teaching process.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate students’ rules and practices in how they maintain speaking fluency. Six students were the participants in this research that met the criteria. They were interviewed individually as the part of qualitative approach in research by using digital tape recorder. In-depth investigation was aimed at searching their rules and practices in maintaining fluency in speaking. The findings show that the participants skipped grammar rules but not the English tenses in speaking. Vocabulary learning starts from understanding words and phrases in context. Translation occurred when they met unfamiliar topic. Movie is mentioned as the perfect English language input. Last, the internet is the useful media to self-expose into rich English environments; it is easy and cheap to access. It is expected that the research contribute to the English language learning, speaking fluency in particular.

Abstract

The general objective of the research is to develop a model of  a computer-based education management information systems (MIS) in Elementary schools   and the specific objectives were to (1) develop a prototype model of an education MIS computer-based; and (2) to develop the procedure Manual of a computer-based education MIS models. The design of the research was research and development proposed by Borg and Gall. The samples were elementary schools in the city of Bandar Lampung. The research procedure were (1) determining the location of the research, (2) collecting data, (3) designing the initial product and validating to the experts, (4) conducting a seminar in the forum group discussion (FGD), and (5) revising the first design. The result of the product is a prototype model of computer-based education MIS and the manual procedure of computer based education MIS for the elementary school.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the locus of control and academic procrastination, and investigate whether there is significance contributions of locus of control on student academic procrastination. This research was conducted by the Ex post-facto method was used in this study, where the data taken from two set of questionnaires. Proportional Stratified Random Sampling was used. There were 107 students involved this study. The results showed that the locus of control is in average level, meanwhile, and the students’ academic achievement was high. The study also showed that there is a significant contribution between the locus of control on students academic procrastination. The article concludes that the importance that locus control for procrastination research, and with suggestions for educators who work with students who are adversely affected by procrastination.

Abstract

This article provides investigation on EFL students’ responses related to learning writing academic essays in the context of higher education in one of private universities in Indonesia. The gap that is studied in this research is related to rarity of English writing instructors in identifying what their students’ responses towards their learning process after completing an essay writing course and how the responses present significant ideas on improving writing instructors’ pedagogical practices in writing classrooms. Scope of this research is teaching and learning English writing within the context of English as a foreign language. Field of this research is English composition studies. This research applies a quantitative non-experiment design, with descriptive as its method and questionnaire as its instruments. Findings show that students view English writing in neutral attitude; meanwhile, writing thesis statement in an academic essay is the most difficult part to write (40.59% of all respondents), and grammar and punctuation in writing essay is the most difficult aspect of essay writing (51.96% of all respondents). In brief, this research shows that recognising which aspect of the academic essay that is difficult for the students and which element is hard for them is crucial for adjusting pedagogical practices for English writing instructors and improving quality of their teaching gradually in Indonesia

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the third semester agriculture students’ ability to write simple sentences using simple past tense at Taman Siswa University Padang. This research was limited in three sentence forms; affirmative, negative and interrogative. Descriptive research was used in this study where the population was the third semester agriculture students at Taman Siswa University of Padang. The total number of the sample was 63 students. The finding showed that the ability of the third semester agriculture students of Taman Siswa University of Padang to write simple sentences using simple past tense was moderate. It could be seen that 70.97% students have moderate ability. In detail the percentages of each of form sentence were; 64.52% have moderate ability to write simple sentences in simple past tense of (verbal) affirmative, 74.20% have moderate ability to write simple sentences in simple past tense of (verbal) negative sentences, and 77.42% have moderate ability to write simple sentences in simple past tense of (verbal) interrogative sentences. Based on the research finding, it is suggested to the teachers to give more explanation about past tense and explain the usage of mechanics.  The students are suggested to learn more about past tense and use mechanics correctly.

Abstract

The  implemention of authentic assessment  in the   2013 Ccurriculum  has been encountered by various challenges. Teacher have to use numerious instruments, which made them quite which are regarded more complicated. this study focused on the analysis of issues experienced by teachers in implementingng theauthentic assessment within the 2013 curriculum. This study used quantitatif method in which questionnaire was  distributed to the teachers. Population included all teachers in Padang whose schools are applying the 2013 curriculum. 120 teacher were randomly taken as the sample.  The results show that in terms of the affective aspect, the teachers had not yet been optimal in conducting self- and peer assessment for the students, thus the further improvement is seriously recomended. In light of the the cognitive aspect, the teachers had done a very good assessment. They had made a variety of assessment types, especially in the essay and oral tests. However, the assessment of psychomotor aspect was not also optimally done need some improvement. From these results, it is hoped that the teachers can further enhance the assessment procedures of the three criteria for better learning outcomes. The school principals should be able to create opportunities for the teachers to take training in the Applying authentic assessment.

Abstract

The learning materials based on independent learning and constructivism for students especially online probing-prompting method has not been developed yet in the learning process at IAIN Antasari. The purposes of this study are to develop the learning materials of online probing prompting method including the syllabus, lesson units, instructional materials, student assessment sheet, learning media, and online learning design which have been validated by the experts. It is also aimed to identify the quality of the learning materials based on the experts’ assessment. This study used research and development (R & D) approach. The finding of the study showed that IAIN Antasari has developed the learning materials of online probing prompting method including the syllabus, lesson units, instructional materials, student assessment sheet, learning media, and online learning design. The study also found that the experts’ assessment on the quality of the learning materials of online probing prompting method at IAIN Antasari was quite good in terms of the feasibility aspects of the materials, presentation, language and images.

Abstract

This paper is a report of an experimental research project conducted in a reading comprehension course for first-year students of the Adab Faculty of the State Institute for Islamic Studies Imam Bonjol Padang, West Sumatera, Indonesia, during the academic year 2015/2016. The “Predict Organize Search Summarize Evaluate” (POSSE) is one strategy that can enhance students’ comprehension in reading. Two classes of Arabic and History students chosen through cluster random sampling technique were used as the sample of the research. Reading tests were used to collect the data which was given to both of classes on pre-test and post-test. The result of the research showed that the implementation of Predict Organize Search Summarize Evaluate strategy gave a significant difference in term of the students-learning outcome between the students who were taught through POSSE strategy and by traditional one. The finding of the study showed that teaching reading by using POSSE strategy gave significant effect towards students’ reading comprehension. This strategy could improve the students’ reading component on finding topic. It can be concluded that using POSSE Strategy has improved Indonesian students’ reading comprehension. It is also recommended for English lecturers use POSSE strategy as one of teaching strategies for reading comprehension.
