Abstract

The Growth of motorcycles in Indonesia creates high proportion of motorcycles on traffic flow. This high proportion, which is very dominant, creates some traffic problems, including traffic jam dan traffic accidents. There are several methods available to solve the problems; for example providing motorcycle lane and slow lane for the movement of motorcycles. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of motorcycle lane and slow lane using microsimulation model. The results show that the microsimulation model can only be used for road sections with the average motor cycle speed less than 40 km per hour. Keywords: high proportion of motorcycle, microsimulation, motorcycle lane, slow lane

Abstract

Many factors influence drivers to select the best route for their travel. With this reason, truck drivers carrying coal in Banjarmasin area have to find what routes give them the most benefit to transport coal from coal mines to stockpiles. This study aims to determine factors affecting the productivity of trucks transporting coal through road network in the city of Banjarmasin. The results show that only travel time and vehicle types affect the truck productivity significantly. Keywords: truck productivity, road network, and coal transport.

Abstract

This paper presents the assessment of a number of factors affecting bus travel time and a relationship model between those factors and bus travel time. Statistica Neural Network (SNN) tool is used to solve this complex phenomenon. Data collected include bus travel time, distance, average speed, and number of bus stop. The results show that bus travel time is well predicted using variables of distance, average speed, and number of bus stops. The bus travel time increased due to the increase of distance and number of bus stops, while the higher the average speed from one stop to another, the lower bus travel time. Keywords: bus travel time prediction, distance, average speed of bus, number of bus stop

Abstract

The bus service in Surabaya is far from adequate and there is a need to evaluate the bus performance from time to time. The purpose of this study is to measure the bus performance on 21 service routes in Surabaya. The performance indicators used consist of frequency, headway, load factor, and travel time. The results show that only load factor and travel time are indicating that the bus service is good, while frequency and headway indicators suggest that the bus service needs to be enhanced. Keywords: service performance, frequency, load factor, headway, travel time

Abstract

High numbers of dead and injury victims caused by road traffic accident can not be simply ignored. The National Accident data shows high percentage of motorcycle involved in accidents, with data in 2006 show more than 50% of the vehicles involved in accident are motorcycle. Human, vehicle, road, and environmental factors are major factors that cause accidents, but the most dominant factor is humanity. With the concept of "Theory of Planned Behavior", this paper examines how far the community perception, as part of the road users, in this case the motorcyclist, affects the behavior on the aspect of traffic safety. A survey was carried out on motorcyclists who ride through Brigjen Katamso and R. Suprapto streets in Batam. Based on the measurement of 107 respondents, the average value of Attitude (A) is 7.32, Subjective Norm (SN) is 14.78 and the Perceived Behavioral Control (PBC) is 4.22. From the values of A, SN, and PBC, the value obtained by Behavioral Intention (BI) for the motorcyclist in this study area is 8.78. This value indicates that the motorcycle riders have positive perception with medium to weak levels towards the traffic safety. Motorcycle riders actually have a positive perception of the safety aspects of traffic. Keywords: behavior, perception, safety, motorcycle rider

Abstract

Recently, motorcycle population in Indonesia is increasing rapidly. Meanwhile, the number of accidents involving motorcycles is higher than that of other motor vehicles. Based on the problem, it is important to find out a solution so that the road transportation safety can be created. The objective of this study is to model motorcycle accidents on the road. The dependent variable, as a response variable, is the number of motorcycle accidents and the independent variables are traffic volume, speed, lane width, lane number, and shoulder. The road accident data were collected from 18 roads in four areas, including Surabaya City, Malang City, Malang Regency, and Batu City. Modeling analysis employed a Generalized Linear Modeling (GLM) method. The results indicated that the model can be used to describe the actual condition of the road accidents. Moreover, it is also showed that the motorcycle accidents are significantly influenced by volume, speed, lane width, lane number, and shoulder variables. High volume and speed will increase accident risks, but the increase in lane width, lane number, and shoulder will decrease accident risks. Keywords: motorcycle accident, motorcycle accident modeling, road traffic accident

Abstract

Traffic accident causes economic losses for the country, the victim, and the victim’s family. The cause of traffic accident consists of human error, vehicle factor, and road and environment factor. Human error is mostly considered as the main reason for traffic accidents to occur. This Study is intended to find the road safety deficiency in Ring Road Selatan Yogyakarta, from Parangtritis Road intersection (STA 0+000) to Bantul Road intersection (STA 1+600), using road safety form developed by Directorate General of Highways. Any kind of deviation from technical standard and dangerous condition of environment will be compared with the rules which prevails. The deviencies found will be presented in accident opportunity value (P) and seriousness of victim’s condition impact value (D). The correlation between opportunity and impact values will result in risk value (R) that indicates road safety condition. The average of risk value in Ring Road Selatan Yogyakarta is 74,10 which means that the risk value is low or the safety deviciency level is small. Zone with the highest risk value is zone 4 (STA 0+400) with 114,40, which can be categorized as medium level meaning that this zone needs unscheduled handling. The routine road treatment for road pavement, road mark, traffic sign, and street illumination can reduce risk value from 74,10 to 43,33, meaning that the road can be categorized as very low level of handling and does not need to be monitored. Keywords: road safety deficiency, road safety form, and risk value

Abstract

More than 95% of freight movement in the Province of Aceh is done by the road mode. As most of the land in the province is surrounded by sea, the freight movement could have been done by sea transportation. Railway was already in the Province of Aceh long time ago, it began to operate in 1906, but the operation was closed in 1982. The Central Government and the Aceh Provincial Government want to revitalize the railway and there is also a plan to build a new Jalan Raya from Banda Aceh to North Sumatra border. However, there is a constraint in the costs of building these infrastructures so that multimodal and intermodal transportation can not take place. As a result, road transportation remains to be a major transport choice and this condition is even worse with vehicles on the road also tend to carry overload. This study was conducted in connection with the overload effect of the freight transport using trucks and how these trucks cause road deterioration and increase road maintenance costs in the Province of Aceh. The results suggest that multimodal/intermodal freight transportation, specifically road and railroad combined transport, could provide more efficient freight transport and, most likely, is the best option for the province. Keywords: freight transportation, multimodal/intermodal transportation, overload
