Abstract

Abstract Traditional mix design methods which normally incorporate the Marshall test are not appropriate to design porous asphalt because of the insensitivity of the Marshall stability values to variations in binder content. It is therefore appropriate specify the design binder content (DBC) for porous asphalt rather than the optimum binder content. The design binder content incorporates an upper and a lower limit. The lower limit of the DBC can be dictated by requirements to resist disintegration while the upper limit is specified to limit binder drainage yet maintaining a porous structure that would promote permeability. This paper presents the results of a laboratory investigation to determine design binder content for porous asphalt. Three gradations were tested each made up of 10, 14 and 20 mm maximum aggregate size. Two types binder was used, conventional 60/70 pen bitumen, and styrene butadiene styrene (SBS) modified bitumen. Based on the drainage test, target binder content as the upper limit content for SBS is higher than the base bitumen 60/70. These values will be lower when the maximum aggregate size is increased. Generally, the abrasion loss decreases as the binder content increases while the curve slopes downward and becomes flatter when a certain percentage of bitumen is exceeded. It was found that design binder contents corresponding to 10, 14 and 20 mm maximum aggregate size equal 5.4%, 5.0% and 4.5% respectively for conventional binder and 5.7%, 5.2% and 4.6% for SBS binder. However, the DBC content for SBS is higher from conventional binder.Key words: porous asphalt, binder drainage, cantabrian, design binder content

Abstract

Abstract Many problems in transport planning and management tasks require an origin-destination (O-D) matrix to represent the travel pattern. However, O-D matrices obtained through a large scale survey such as home or road side interviews, tend to be costly, labour intensive and time disruptive to trip makers. Therefore, the alternative of using traffic counts to estimate O-D matrices is particularly attractive. Models of transport demand have been used for many years to synthesize O-D matrices in study areas. A typical example of this is the gravity model (GR); its functional form, plus the appropriate values for the parameters involved, is employed to produce acceptable matrices representing trip making behaviour for many trip purposes and time periods. Four estimation methods have been analysed and tested to calibrate the transport demand models from traffic counts, namely: Non-Linear-Least-Squares (NLLS), Maximum-Likelihood (ML), Maximum-Entropy (ME) and Bayes-Inference (BI). The Bandung’s Urban Traffic Movement survey has been used to test the developed method. Based on several statistical tests, the estimation methods are found to perform satisfactorily since each calibrated model reproduced the observed matrix fairly closely. The tests were carried out  using two assignment techniques, all-or-nothing and equilibrium assignment.keywords : transportation model, O-D matrices, estimation method, trip distribution, trip assignment

Abstract

Abstract Durability of asphalt concrete wearing course mixtures affects road pavement construction performance, because it functions as a road surface cover. The high value of stability and durability indicates that the surface layer of the road is strong and resistant to the influence of weather and water. This study was conducted to determine the durability of asphalt concrete mixtures using mountain coral for wearing course asphalt concrete mixtures, using Retona Blend 55 asphalt and Asphalt Pen 60/70 as binders. The results indicate that the physical properties of aggregates are not significantly different when compared with the Bina Marga specification standards. The mixture combination that gives the best value for Marshall Stability, which is 1,373.93 kg, is a combination of 50% Asphalt Pen 60/70 and 50% Retona Blend 55. While the best durability value, which is 90.60%, is obtained by the mixture with Asphalt Pen 60/70 without Retona. Keywords: asphalt concrete, mountain coral, aspal, stability, durability  Abstrak Durabilitas campuran beton aspal lapis aus mempengaruhi kinerja kontruksi perkerasan jalan, karena berfungsi sebagai lapisan penutup permukaan jalan. Abstract

Route selection is a major element of the network assignment model. This process is often also callednetwork tree building. In conventional route selection, each repetition will only produce one best path orshortestpath. Using fuzzy systems approach, travel cost is modeled in fuzzy numbers. Fuzzy numbers arenumbers with certain upper-bound and under-bound limits. In fuzzy conditions, route selection process isexpected to produce several routes that can be nominated as the shortestpath. It means that in each repetition, the finding algorithm will generate more than one best route, starting from the first best route, the second bestroute, to the k best route. The next process is the trip assignment existing (demand side) on the transportationnetwork system (supply side) which will produce a route pattern and traffic flow. Traffic flow allocationbased on the series of best routes and degree of membership of fuzzy numbers. Keywords: fuzzy travel cost, fuzzy shortest path, fuzzy assignment

Abstract

Kata-kata kunci: biaya persepsi, distribusi normal, transformasi Box-Muller, bilangan acak, sampel acak, model pembebanan stokastik

Abstract

Determination of road maintenance involves complex multi-criteria in decision making process. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method has been used to determine the weight of criteria in evaluating the road maintenance priority. In this study, the priority decisions for maintaining collector roads in Banda Aceh city were determined using the AHP method. The objective of this study is to describe the decision making process in determining the road maintenance handling priority accurately involving the key persons. There are 4 (four) criteria used, namely road condition, traffic volume, policy, and land use factors. The results showed that the highest criteria weight was achieved by road condition with a score of 0,454, followed by traffic volume (0.255) and land use (0.158), respectively. Surprisingly, the lowest score was obtained by policy factor. It was really beyond expectation since road maintenance priorities were usually relied on the government policy. The results indicated that road condition and traffic volume were the main factors in determining the road maintenance priorities. Keywords: road handling priority, road condition, traffic volume, AHP method
