Abstract

This paper describes the improvement of third-grade elementary students’ writing skills of expression (instruction, announcement, appreciation, and invitation) of grade 3 elementary students by applying a problem-based learning model assisted by Scrolling Picture media. The research method used was classroom action research. The research was conducted in two cycles. Each consists of four stages, namely planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The results indicate an increasing average of students' skills in writing expressions (instruction, announcement, appreciation, and invitation) in class. An increasing average score of writing expression skills was 71 when the pre-test results increased to 93 in the post-test of cycle I. In this cycle, the average score increased to 22 or 31%. Meanwhile, students who have reached the Minimum Completeness Criteria have also increased from 46% to 89%. In cycle II, otherwise, the student’s skills to write expressions increased compared to the cycle I post-test, which was from 93 in the post-test of cycle I increased to 98 in the post-test of cycle II. In this cycle, the average score increased by 5 or 5.3%. Meanwhile, students who have reached the Minimum Completeness Criteria also increased from 89% to 100%. It is considered satisfying enough for teachers and researchers as the indicator has been achieved successfully. It can be concluded that there is an increasing average value of expression writing skills by applying the problem-based learning model assisted by Scrolling Picture media. The increase is also seen in the students’ enthusiasm and motivation in participating in learning, carrying out responsibility, and conducting cooperation in finishing the tasks provided by the teacher.

Abstract

The implementation of social science learning in elementary schools tends to build cognitive abilities mainly rather than to build the attitude or character of students. In fact, based on the learning material, social science learning has a role in the student’s character building. In addition, the learning media used by teachers tend to be conventional so it is monotonous. The research purpose is to produce and describe social science learning media valued for fifth-grade elementary students. The development method used is Research and Development (R&D). The developmental model used is the ADDIE model developed by Dick and Carry. The research is limited to the developmental stage. The research data collection instrument uses a validity questionnaire sheet. Based on the results of data analysis, it was obtained an average percentage of learning material validity at 97.78%, language validity at 97.78%, and design validity at 93.33% with very valid validity criteria for the three validities. It shows that social science learning media is a feasible character for being one of the social science learning media for fifth-grade elementary students.

Abstract

The abundance of emerging technologies in a civilization demands the readiness of the people as human resources to be more creative in all aspects. In terms of the research objectives, the researchers would like to develop a thematic-based story illustration picture as a creativity encouragement for first-grade elementary students. The research is a Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model. The research sample is based on the purposive sampling technique. The sample consisted of 29 male students and 47 female students at the first-grade level. As a result, the average score in the pretest was 7.59. After applying to this program, it increased to 9.3 with an increase of 1.71. The minimum pretest score of 6.68 increased to 8.00, and the maximum post-test score of 8.50 initially increased to 9.8. It shows a significant increase in students' creativity. Based on the value of t-test = 9.01 with t-table (a = 0.05:110) at 1.658, there is a significant difference between the pretest and post-test scores. The research in this paper can be an appropriate innovation for the creativity program development for elementary students. It is because, in general, creativity programs are still theoretical and do not teach awareness and creative skills yet. .
