Abstract

Learning social science education gives a chance to give attention to caring for and using the surrounding area. The empirical fact in learning social science education before shows that the teacher is the only person who gives information, which is called teacher-centered learning. Learning materials used focus on textbooks, while the materials in the textbooks do not adopt or relate to local superiority and wisdom. This research focuses on the development of teaching materials for learning social science education in primary schools based on local wisdom, aligned with competency standards and basic standards in the first semester of grade IV. This research aims to develop teaching materials for learning social science education in primary schools based on local wisdom that can be used as a reference or supplement by teachers and students in learning. The method used is a research and development design. This research was conducted in four steps, namely: (1) literature study, (2) research planning, (3) research development, and (4) implementation. Data collection techniques used in this research include interviews, questionnaires, observations, documentation, and tests. Meanwhile, triangulation techniques and simple statistics were used to analyze the data. The results of the research show that (a) teaching materials for learning social science education based on local wisdom help teachers develop and relate learning materials in social science education to local potential, especially in Siak Regency, and (b) teaching materials for learning social science education based on local wisdom help students understand the potential and conditions of the surrounding area. This is proven by the increase in students’ understanding in learning social science education based on local wisdom, from an average pretest score of 31.73 to a posttest score of 53.85, with an average gain score of 0.33 in the fair category.

Abstract

In line with the competency-based curriculum at the University of Riau, efforts to improve learning in the Basic Concepts of Science 2 course emphasize students’ conceptual understanding of matter through learning activities grounded in scientific inquiry. This study employed classroom action research conducted in two cycles involving 55 third-semester students of the PGSD JIP Program at the University of Riau during the odd semester of the 2013/2014 academic year. The findings indicate that the implementation of the inquiry learning model improved both student activity and learning outcomes. In the first cycle, most learning activities were categorized as good, although activities I and II remained in the fair category. In the second cycle, students’ activity reached the good category in the first and fourth activities and the very good category in the second, third, fifth, and sixth activities. Students’ learning outcomes also showed improvement, with the average score increasing from 65.45 in the pre-test to 77.00 in Daily Test I and 77.45 in Daily Test II. The improvement from the initial data to the first cycle was 11.55 points, while the increase from the initial data to the second cycle reached 12 points. Overall, the enhancement of students’ learning outcomes was achieved because inquiry-based learning encourages active, student-centered learning by presenting problems, engaging students in simple experiments using appropriate tools and materials, analyzing data, preparing reports, and communicating observational results based on scientific concepts and principles learned.

Abstract

The problem addressed in this research is the low achievement of fourth-grade students in social science at SD Negeri 56 Pekanbaru, indicated by an average score of 60 and classical completeness of 40%, while the minimum completeness criterion was set at 70. The purpose of this study was to improve students’ social science achievement through the application of the cooperative learning model type Group Investigation. This research employed classroom action research consisting of two cycles with four procedures: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting, and each cycle comprised three meetings. The instruments used were syllabus, lesson plans, and student worksheets, while data collection instruments included observation sheets and tests. The collected data covered students’ learning outcomes and teacher activities during the learning process. After the implementation of the cooperative learning model type Group Investigation, students’ achievement in UH I reached an average score of 70.50, an improvement of 17.50% from the basic score, with classical completeness of 60%. In UH II, the average score increased to 80.83, showing an improvement of 34.72%, with classical completeness reaching 81.82%. Teacher activity in the first meeting of cycle I was 59.38% (fair category) and increased to 71.88% (good category) in the second meeting, while in cycle II it increased to 84.38% and 90.63% (very good category). Student activity in the first meeting of cycle I was 56.25% (fair category) and increased to 65.63% (good category) in the second meeting, then further increased in cycle II to 81.25% and 87.50% (very good category). Based on these results, it can be concluded that the implementation of the cooperative learning model type Group Investigation can improve social science learning outcomes of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 56 Pekanbaru.

Abstract

The problem in this research was the low score of students’ learning outcomes in social science. There were still many students who did not understand basic concepts and tended to memorize examples. This condition was shown by only 58.07% of 31 students achieving the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) based on students’ test scores in class IVC of SDN 108 Pekanbaru for the cooperative subject. The students’ average score was 62.4, while the KKM determined by the school was 68. Based on this problem, it was necessary to conduct classroom action research using the cooperative learning model of the Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) type. This research aimed to determine whether the implementation of the cooperative learning model of the Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) type could improve students’ social science learning outcomes in class IVC of SDN 108 Pekanbaru in the 2013/2014 academic year with 31 students. This research was conducted in two cycles. The first cycle consisted of three meetings with one daily test and the first tournament, while the second cycle consisted of three meetings with one daily test and the second tournament. The instruments used to collect data in this research were teacher observation sheets, student observation sheets, and tests. Through the implementation of the cooperative learning model of the Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) type, students’ learning outcomes improved. The percentage of completeness in the basic score was 54.8% with an average score of 62.40, which increased to 77.4% with an average score of 75.6 in cycle I and further increased to 87.1% with an average score of 81.1 in cycle II. The percentage of teacher activity in cycle I was 81.9% and increased to 92.3% in cycle II. Meanwhile, the percentage of students’ activity in cycle I was 75.4% and increased to 92.2% in cycle II. Based on these data, it can be concluded that the implementation of the cooperative learning model of the Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) type can improve students’ learning outcomes in class IVC of SDN 108 Pekanbaru.

Abstract

The mathematics learning process implemented by teachers in grade II of SDN 034 Tarai Bangun had not yet employed engaging instructional methods, resulting in passive student participation. Learning activities were predominantly teacher-centered, with an emphasis on explaining mathematical theory without involving students in discovering concepts through real and meaningful activities. This condition limited students’ conceptual understanding and learning outcomes. This research aimed to determine whether the use of bead media within the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach could improve students’ mathematics learning outcomes in class II.A of SDN 034 Tarai Bangun in the 2013/2014 academic year. The research involved 26 students and applied an experimental design consisting of an experimental class and a control class. Based on the analysis of pretest and posttest data, learning outcomes increased in both classes, although the improvement in the experimental class was significantly higher. In the experimental class, the average pretest score increased from 60.95 to 75.42, showing an improvement of 23%. Meanwhile, in the control class, the average score increased from 55.16 to 58.06, with an improvement of only 5%. These results indicate that the integration of bead media through the Realistic Mathematics Education approach was more effective in enhancing students’ learning outcomes. To examine whether the difference between the two classes was statistically significant, a t-test was conducted with 60 degrees of freedom. The results showed that the calculated t-value was greater than the critical value of the t-table, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H₀) and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (H₁). Therefore, it can be concluded that there was a significant difference in mathematics learning outcomes between students taught using bead media within the RME approach and those taught using conventional methods.
