Abstract

This study aims to improve student learning outcomes in social studies on the subject matter of buying and selling activities in the home and school environment through the application of the role-playing learning model in third-grade students of SD Negeri 013 Lubuk Kembang Sari, Kecamatan Ukui. The low learning outcomes of grade III students were caused by the teacher not applying an appropriate learning model, resulting in students having difficulty understanding the material. The subjects of this study were 18 third-grade students consisting of 12 male and 6 female students. The parameters measured included teacher activities, student activities, and student learning outcomes, analyzed descriptively. The results showed an increase in teacher activity from 75% at the first meeting of cycle I (good), 77.8% at the second meeting of cycle I (good), 86.1% at the first meeting of cycle II (very good), and 88.9% at the second meeting of cycle II (very good). Student activity also increased from 61.1% at the first meeting of cycle I (good), 77.8% at the second meeting of cycle I (good), 80.6% at the first meeting of cycle II (very good), and 86.1% at the second meeting of cycle II (very good). Classical completeness of learning outcomes increased from 39.5% at the baseline (not complete) to 81.6% in the first daily test (complete) and 92.1% in the second daily test (complete). Based on these results, it is concluded that the application of the role-playing learning model can improve student learning outcomes in social studies.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the activity and motivation of students to learn social sciences is still low. This is shown in their behavior when following social sciences learning. Based on the test scores of the first half of social sciences with a minimum completeness criterion (KKM) of 65, it is known that 58% of students graduated KKM while 42% of students did not complete. Under these conditions, it can be concluded that student learning outcomes are still low. Researchers also conducted interviews with several students. Some students said that classroom conditions were not conducive, friends liked to make noise in the classroom, the way teachers delivered material was less clear, and students' laziness to study also caused low learning outcomes. The objective to be achieved in this research is to determine the application of cooperative learning Think Pair Share (TPS) in improving learning outcomes for social sciences in the fourth grade students of SD Negeri 001 Ukui Satu. This classroom action research (PTK) was planned in two cycles. Each cycle in action research consists of four stages, namely: (1) planning, (2) acting, (3) observing, and (4) reflecting. This study was conducted at SD Negeri 001 Ukui Satu in the fourth grade, while the timing of this research is in the second semester of the 2016 academic year. The subject of this classroom action research is the fourth-grade students consisting of 34 students, with 11 male students and 23 female students. Abstract

The low value of students is caused by the wrong way teachers teach. Students tend to get bored in the subjects at school because teachers dominate the learning process. This results in students feeling compelled to follow the lessons. This study aims to improve student learning outcomes in social studies class V SDN 007 Purnama Kota Dumai. The study was conducted from January 4 to January 12, 2012, involving 26 students of class V, consisting of 15 male and 11 female students. This research consisted of two cycles, each cycle comprising two meetings. To obtain data on student learning outcomes in the implementation of learning using the throwing snowball method, a written test was used. Meanwhile, to assess teacher and student activities, observation sheets were utilized. The results of the study showed that student activity in the first cycle at meeting I reached only 45.1% (poor category), while in meeting II it increased to 59.2% but still remained in the poor category. In the second cycle, student activity at meeting I increased to 68.7% (still in the poor category), and in meeting II rose significantly to 86.9% (good category). Learning outcomes in the first cycle at meeting I reached a total score of 1280 with an average of 50 (poor category). In meeting II of the first cycle, learning outcomes increased to 1850 with an average score of 71.15 (fair category). In the second cycle, learning outcomes at meeting I reached 2095 with an average of 80.3 (good category). In meeting II, the score rose to 2116 with an average of 81.38 (good category). Thus, it can be concluded that the throwing snowball learning model can improve student learning outcomes in social studies learning for class V at SDN 007 Purnama Kota Dumai.
