Abstract

Spatial Approach in Landscape Planning for Jamburea Tourism Village in Garut Regency. Jamburea, located in the Banyuresmi District of Garut, is a potential tourist haven with its unique blend of natural beauty and rich cultural traditions. Dominated by wetland landscapes influenced by the seasonal Situ Rancakukuk lake, residents adapt by converting its periphery into rice fields during the dry season and fish ponds during the rainy season. Furthermore, the kampong region is a repository of intangible cultural assets, such as culinary speciality, Pencak silat, traditional children’s games, 'Asgar' barber shops, and bamboo handicrafts. Employing ArcGIS tools, this study used a spatial approach to analyze physical-biophysical, non-physical, and tourism aspects for optimal zoning. This paper has two objectives: firstly, to plan the landscape of the Jamburea tourism village using a spatial approach in the analytical process. The second objective is to examine the application of spatial methods in landscape planning. Results suggest 72.09% of the kampong is suitable for tourism development, 13.68% is moderately suitable, and 14.23% requires conservation. Proposed zones include natural and cultural tourism, tourism support, welcome areas and buffer zones. This study underscores the efficacy of the spatial approach in devising comprehensive plans for Jamburea's tourism potential.

Abstract

Defense System in the Bali Aga Village Area in Karangasem Regency. The defense system is one of the important things in settlements. Oscar Newman has developed the concept of defensible space, which is a defense concept to improve the quality of residential environments. The Bali Aga people still carry out their traditions, both in terms of customs and in living. Many of the characteristics of the Bali Aga settlements are still clearly visible, because the traditional concepts are still adhered to by most of the people. Aspects of the concept of defense in Bali Aga settlements have not been disclosed much. The disclosure of the concept of defense in the Bali Aga settlement is expected to add references to improve the quality of settlements. This research was conducted in three Bali Aga settlements, namely Timbrah Village, Asak Village, and Bungaya Village, in Karangasem Regency. This village was chosen because it has a location that is close together and has many similarities, in terms of customs and geographical conditions. This research uses a qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out by means of literature studies, observations, and in-depth interviews. Descriptive data were analyzed by content analysis. The results of the study show that the concept related to the defense system in living is seen in spatial organizations that emphasize the occurrence of natural surveillance. The concept of defense is also in the form of establishing boundaries in the yard of the house, and limiting access. Communal space is the center of the area, emphasizing the concept of openness to facilitate control over the behavior of the community and outsiders.

Abstract

Pesanggrahan Ambarrukmo is one of the historical legacies of the Keraton Yogyakarta which has a unique spatial pattern, historical and socio-cultural value. As a heritage building, it faces physical changes following the construction of the Ambarrukmo Plaza and the Royal Ambarrukmo Hotel’s renovation. This study aims to determine the changes in spatial patterns before and after the construction of Ambarrukmo Plaza and the renovation of the Royal Ambarrukmo Hotel (2004 - 2021). The research method in this study is qualitative with a cultural studies approach and the triangulation methods in the form of interviews, observations and documentation combined with literature study. Physical changes occurring in Pesanggrahan Ambarrukmo have reduced the semi-sacred and profane areas as well as profane areas’ open green spaces, while the sacred area is not affected. Plaza Ambarrukmo and Hotel Royal Ambarrukmo managed to be a buffer space for Pesanggrahan Ambarrukmo. The changes of Pesanggrahan Ambarrukmo as an effort to maintain its existence are the most appropriate way in this modern era. The role of the managements, government, and community are necessary to preserve Pesanggrahan Ambarrukmo.
