Abstract

Pulai (Alstonia scholaris R.Br), family Apocynaceae adalah salah satu tumbuhan hutan yang berfungsi sebagai obat tradisional untuk mengobati demam, malaria, batuk berdahak, diare, kencing manis, penurun kolesterol, cacingan, rematik akut, borok, dan hipertensi. Salah satu penyebab penyakit jantung, aterosklerosis, dan kanker adalah stres oksidatif. Stres ini dapat disembuhkan atau dikurangi dengan menggunakan antioksidan. Flavonoid merupakan senyawa fenol dan termasuk salah satu metabolit sekunder pada tumbuhan yang berfungsi sebagai antioksidan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan total fenol, total flavonoid, dan aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak kulit batang pulai. Penentuan kuantitatif total fenol dengan metode folin-ciocalteu dinyatakan sebagai gallic acid equivalent (GAE) per gram ekstrak, kadar flavonoid total dengan metode AlCl3  dinyatakan sebagai Quercetin equivalen (QE), dan aktivitas antioksidan in vitro dengan DPPH (2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) yang dinyatakan dalam istilah IC50 (inhibition concentration). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstraksi tiga ulangan dalam maserasi dengan etanol 96% menghasilkan 4,19% filtrat. Kandungan fenol total adalah 51,50 mg GAE/g ekstrak, sedangkan kandungan flavonoid total adalah 0,35 mg QE/g ekstrak. Nilai IC50 yang diperoleh dari hasil pengujian antioksidan ekstrak kulit batang adalah 211,54 μg/mL.

Abstract

Twenty  wood species obtained from  Irion Joya measuring 5 x 5 x 60 cm were treated by hot and cold soaking  using BFCA preservative  with 5 and  10 percent  of  solution  concentration.   Hot   immersion  period   was kept  for 1 hour,  2 hours  and  3 hours, with  temperature range  of 60°C-70°C,  followed   by cold immersion for 24 hours.The test result of the twenty wood species, after taking both penetration and retention  requirements  into consideration for  wood uses under roof,  and in the open air both  without  soil contact,  showed  that two  wood species among  them i.e. nifoek  (Eucalyptus  deglupta  Bl.) and seriega (Eugenia  sp.),  could  not  be satisfactorily   treated  under  the experimental  conditions.   The other eighteen species could be treated  by either one, several,  or all treating schedules  employed  in this research. Nevertheless,   it is important   to note  that  two  of  the eighteen  species,  i.e. sougwa (Palaquium  multiflorum)  and matoa (Pometia  pinna ta Forst.) fulfilled the requirements for  wood usage under the roof  only  without  soil contact. The preservation  schedule proposed  for  the eighteen  wood species is presented  in Table 4.

Abstract

The study was carried out at a timber estate company in South Sumatera in 1999. The aim of the study is to know the effect of selective thinning to residual stand damage and work productivity.Data collected were: thinned and damaged trees; residual stand; thinning time; diameter and length of thinned trees. The data was analyzed by tabulation.The results of the study showed that the average of residual stand damaged and the average of work productivity in selective thinning are respectively 6.22% and 56.167 m3/hour.Key words : Selective thinning, residual stand damaged, work productivity.

Abstract

This paper deals with chemical analysis of eight wood species from East Indonesia i. e : Podocarpus imbricatus BL, Pouteria firma Baohani, Phylocladus hypopyllus Hoof.f, Agthis philipinensis Warb, Dacrydium beccarii Parl, Tristania maingayi Duthie, Castanopsis javanica A.DC and Shorea sp. The analysis comprised of the determinations of cellulose, lignin, pentosan, moisture, ash.silica and the solubility in cold water, hot water, sodium hydroxide (1 %), alcohol benzene (I :2).The result shows that cellulose content ranges from 47,58, to 59, 74 percent. The highest cellulose content was obtained from Agathis philippinensis Hooff and low cellulose content from Tristania maingayi Duthie. Lignin content ranges from 25,22 to 29, 84 percent where the highest was obtained from Shorea sp and the lowest from Pouteria firma Baohni and Phylocladus hypophyllus Hoof.f pentosan from 10,84 to 19,66 percent. Moisture content ranges from 10,09 to 13, 70 percent, ash content from 0,13 to 0, 78 percent, silica content from 0,12 to 0,40 percent. Solubility in cold water ranges from 2,11 to 12,97 percent.solubility in hot water from 3,09 to 14,76 percent, solubility in sodium hydroxide (1 %) from 10,65 to 27,68 percent and solubility in alcohol benzene (1:2) from 1,84 to 8,89 percent.

Abstract

Impregnasi kopolimer merupakanegn salah satu upaya dalam peningkatan kualitas kayu. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan kopolimer tanin resorsinol formaldehida (TRF) terhadap bagian lunak kayu kelapa. Polimer diimpregnasikan dengan menggunakan vakum pada tekanan awal 11 atm. Sifat fisis dan mekanis contoh diuji sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan mampu meningkatkan karakteristik fisis dan mekanis bagian lunak kayu kelapa tersebut.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study the effect of fractional diatillation of cananga flower from Boyolalion the ester number and the oil properties. The properties were then evalw;ited based on the Ifido1U.1Bian Industrial Starrdard requirement for  cananga oil.  The fint  (ractiOn was obtained during the fint  0 -   6 houn  distilling time,  the second fraction was from 6 -   10 houn,  and third fraction '(rOm  11 -   15 hours."  .The raulta showed that the ester number of oil ('r(lctiom and the refractive index of the second and third fractions have met  with the 1ndonesian Industrial Standard requirement. The speci(ie gravity of oil fractions, hOwever, have not met  with  that standa~           'ester number of  the fint  fraction had  a higher value than that ot  the secorid fraction, and gradually lower value for• the third fraction. It  was found  from  this study- that the lint  fraction obtained from cananga oil distillation renders  the highest quality oil.

Abstract

Levopimaric  acid,  with its two double  bonds conjugated  in the same ring, can react with α-, β-  unsaturated  carbonyl  compounds in a Diels - Alder  reaction.  This reaction  is the basis for preparation  of fortified   rosin soap by addition  of. maleic  unhydride.   The  research purpose  is to study  the influence  of maleic unhydride  addition  on moisture  content,  total rosin, combined  rosin,  free rosin,  and unsaponifiable  matter  of rosin soap properties.Results   indicate  that  the  inclusion  of  maleic  unhydride   during  the  soap  making  process  has  a highly  significant effect on  the  overall  rosin  soap properties. Furthermore. The LSD  test of the difference   between  unfortified and fortified rosin soap properties  appeared  to  be highly  significant  in favor  of  the fortified one.  Therefore, it is advisable to fortified rosin soap for  better  and efficient result in the rosin size manufactures.

Abstract

Damar (Shorea javanica) jenis pohon yang memberikan penghasilan ganda yaitu getah damar (damar resin) dan kayu. Masa produktif pohon damar antara 18 tahun sampai 50 tahun. Produksi damar per bulan per pohon 3 kg getah dengan harga di tingkat petani Rp. 400,-.Dalam 1 (satu) tahun setiap ha dapat menghasilkan 7.200 kg dengan nilai Rp. 2.880.000,-. Petani pemilik kebun damar sebaiknya pohon damar ini disadap sampai produksi damar menurun. Dengan penyadapan pohon damar akan lebih baik menguntungkan petani ketimbang menebung/menjual kayunya sebelum damar habis pasca panen.Pendapatan petani dari pemungutan damar rata-rata Rp. 1.462,15/hari, di tingkat pedagang pengumpul Rp. 112,-/kg dan ditingkat eksportir Rp. 661,-/kg. Produksi damar dari Sumatera Selatan 60 % diekspor ke Jerman Barat dan 40 % ke pasar lokal.

Abstract

The aim of the experiment is to study phenol recovery from waste liquor of pulp and paper processing industry.The method used for selecting distillation procedure were simple distillation, distillation design A, B, C, D, E, F and F-m as mentioned in the procedure. The pH of substrate used were 14, 12, 10, and 9 while for absorbents were 1, 3, 5 and 7. Distillation time used varied from 3.15 ; 5.15 ; and 7.15.The result shows that the highest phenol recovery was obtained from the design F-m yielding 75. 3 % phenol recovery during 5 hours 15 minutes distillation time, using substrate having pH of 14 and absorbent pH of 3. Applying such method on sulphite black liqour, gave 56.3 % phenol recovery.
