Abstract

Hybridization Morus sp, has given a significant impact increasing leaf productivity. There ore some good performaning Morus hybrids such as M. nigra x M. indica (M.N1). M. australis x M. indica (M.AsI). and M. alba var kanva which might be good forfeeding materials of silkworm. However, it is necessariy to test the leafsuitability asfeeding material to the quality of cocoon that will be produced. For that purpose one set offeeding experimentation using Bombyx mori L, (bivoltine silkworm egg F1 China and Japan double crossed with the code C 301) and three kinds of mulberry was established. The researeh located in Grogolan village, with 500 m asl. altitude, 2.500 mm - 3.000 mm rain per year, 75% relative humidity and 25° .3,0°C temperature. The study was arranged Randomized Completely Design with three replications. The result showed that the effects of mulberry leaves were non signifcant for the survival percentage of silkvorm instar I-III, the survival percentage of silkworm instar IV-V, weight of cocoon, weight of cocoon shell, cocoon shell percentage, length of filament, weight of filament, filament percentage and reelability of cocoon, There were significant differences in rendement ofrearing. In general, leaves those three hybrids are suitable for silkwonn feeding.

Abstract

Flowering are influenced by internal factors, such as genetic and phytohormone, and environment factors, such as sunlight and nutrition intake. The flowering characteristics influence fruiting and genetic diversity seedlings through mating systems. This study aims to assess flowering and fruiting characteristics and to determine pattern of mating system of a Calophyllum inophyllum plantation at Watusipat, Gunung Kidul. Flowering and fruiting were observed at 4 locations, 3 parts of crown, and 4 main directions to know the effects of sunlight, nutrition intake and phytohormone in the flowering process. Mating system was assessed by comparing genetic diversity values between parent trees and offsprings. The values of genetic diversity were analyzed using 5 RAPD primers with 17 polymorphic loci. Analysis of variant showed that the locations, crown parts, directions and interaction between a location and direction significantly affected to differences number of flowers and fruits. Values of genetic diversity (h) of parent trees ranged between 0.1471 and 0.3056. The values increased at almost overall offsprings; it ranged between 0.2864 and 0.3750. Values of genetic distance (Da) between parent trees were high and very high (0.197 – 0.364), but the values was decreased between parent trees and their offspring, even between offspring populations. A dendrogram showed two main clusters; first cluster consisted parent trees at up edge with rare trees and second cluster consisted sub cluster parent trees at up edge; sub cluster parent trees at down middle; and sub cluster parent trees at down edge and overall offsprings. Flowering/ fruiting characteristics and pattern of mating systems of C. inophyllum were briefly discussed. Key words : Flowering characteristic, genetic diversity, Calophyllum inophyllum, RAPD analysis

Abstract

Combination of provenance progeny trial of Acacia mangium from Claudie River-Queensland- Australia was established in Pelaihari, South Kalimantan. The objective of this research is to find variation on diameter, wood specific gravity and fiber lenght between provenance seedlot and family within provenance seedlot in provenance progeny trial of A. mangium on 22 months old.The results showed that the mean of wood specific gravity and was 0.40 and mean of fiber length was 0.89 mm. Variation of diameter, wood specific gravity, and fiber length were significant difference among provenance seedlot or between family within provenance seedlot in the trial. Individual heritability of diameter, wood specific gravity, and fiber length were medium (hi 2=0.49 for diameter; hi 2=0.33 for specific gravity and hi 2=0.39 for fiber length). The results of investigation from this trial indicate that diameter, wood specific gravity, and fiber length are necessary to be used for tree selection to improve growth wood quality in the combination of provenance progeny trial of A. mangium.

Abstract

Santalum album is one of the extinct species which need to be conserved. Therefore, the information of reproductive biology of this species, especially the pollination system can produce important clues in order to conserve it.  Preliminary study of pollination system of S. album was conducted at ex-situ conservation plot at Watusipat, Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta. The observations showed that S. album flowers categorised as protandrous, which structured acropetally; this structure may lead self-pollination within a spike. However, result from artificial pollination showed that S. album was a predominantly out crossing species. Very low level of seeds setted from self-pollinated flowers indicated that pollinator was needed for reproduction process. Observation revealed that European honey bee (Apis mellifera) was one of potential pollinating agents.

Abstract

Seedling production of S. platyclados through vegetative propagation offers various advantages particularly mass production of good quality seedling in a certain time can be attained. Shoot cutting is affected by various factors including the physical properties of several media on rooting ability and early root development of S. platyclados shoot cuttings. Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used with 6 replications. Three medium used were Dipterocarp wood sawdust, wood sawdust + rice husk (2/1), and rice husk charcoal. Result showed that wood sawdust bulk density was highest (0.36 kg/l) in compare to that of wood sawdust + rice husk (0.29 kg/l) and rice husk charcoal (0.17 kg/l). The bulk density has positively correlated (r = 0.97) with Water Holding Capacity (WHC) and negatively correlated with porosity (r = -0.99). Rooting ability of the shoot cutting in sawdust + rice husk (2/1) was highest (63%) in compare to that in wood sawdust (43%) and positively correlated with porosity (r=0.59). Early root development in the media did not show significant difference; however, the media of wood sawdust and wood sawdust + rice husk (2/1) tended to have a better early root development compare to rice husk charcoal.

Abstract

Observation of seed production and hybrid seed yield were assessed in hybridization orchard of Acacia mangium x Acacia auriculiformis on the first and second flowering season . The hybridization orchard was established in 2006 using 6 selected plus trees from the first-generation of progeny test of A. mangium and 12 selected plus trees from the first-generation of progeny test of A.auriculiformis. Crosses were conducted using 2 spikes for each cross. Based on synchronization in flowering time, 6 and 17 crossing combinations were made resulting in 23 and 89 hybrid families in the first and second flowering seasons respectively. The average  number of pods and seeds in the first flowering season were 1.9 pods/spike and 2.0 soundseed/pod respectively, while those in the second flowering time were increased to 2.6 pods/spike and 2.4 soundseeds/pot respectively. The percentage of poorseeds almost the same on the first and second flowering seasons, namely 28 .7%  and 32.0% respectively. Verification using SCAR marker indicated that almost all of collected seeds were hybrid seeds.

Abstract

Multiplication of teak clones can be conducted by using vegetative methods either macro or in vitro. In this research, several teak clones collected from Gunungkidul and Wonogiri were propagated using bud grafting technique to know the variation of their growth ability in the nursery. This research arranged in nested design, with 25 clones nested in 3 locations of scion source (clonal test at Gunungkidul, progeny test in Gunungkidul and clonal test in Wonogiri). Each treatment was repeated in 5 replications and each replication consisted of 10 bud grafted seedlings. The result showed that there were significant variations of growth among the clones in all observation characters, whereas the location of scion source was not significant. The best survival percentage of bud grafting from 3 sites of scion source were Clone 8 from the clonal test in Gunungkidul, Clone 64 from progeny test in Gunungkidul, Clone 43 and 87 from the clonal test in Wonogiri.

Abstract

The aim of this experiment was to investigate effect of  media growth composition and NPK fertilizer dosage toward growth ability of A. angustoiloba from Pendopo Provenance, Muara Enim, South Sumatera. Completely Randomized Design of factorial with two factors (growth media composition and fertilizer dosage) and four levels of each factors were used. Four replications were used with five seedlings per replication. The effects of those treatments were evaluated through seedling height growth, stem diameter growth and number of leaves. The result showed that media composition variations gave very significant effect on height growth and number of leaves of  A. angustiloba seedling for 4 months. The best height growth was produced of top soil + compost (1:1) media (48,51 cm) and the best number of leaves was produced of top soil media (19,89). The fertilizer dosage variations gave very significant effect on height growth, stem diameter and number of leaves of  A. angustiloba seedling for 4 months. The best height growth (49,58 cm), stem diameter (5,93 mm) and number of leaves (20,24) were produced by 1 g NPK fertilizer dosage. Interaction of media composition and fertilizer dosage gave significant influence on height growth and stem diameter of  A. angustiloba seedling for 4 months. The best height growth (52,7 cm) was produced by interaction of top soil + compost (1:1) media and 1 g dosage of NPK fertilizer and the best stem diameter (6,5 mm) was produced  by interaction top soil and 0.5 g dosage of NPK fertilizer.
