Abstract

Abstract The use of digital communication technology in learning in higher education is a mandate of the education law regarding e-learning. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of digital communication technology, types of learning applications, prospects and challenges of digital learning in higher education. The results of the study indicate that digital learning is carried out synchronously or asynchronously using hardware, software, internet, and database devices. Learning communication technology is digital, interactive, hypertextual, global, virtual, and simulation. Digital learning uses websites, learning management systems, classrooms, videoconferencing, social media, and messaging applications such as WA. The prospects for digital learning are more flexible learning places, dynamic time, reduced transportation costs, materials available at all times, developing knowledge and skills. Meanwhile, the challenges faced are: dependence on internet quality, cost of purchasing quotas, need for communication devices, participant responsibility, lecturer creativity, data privacy and ethics. Therefore, digital-based learning needs to maximize all available facilities and be able to overcome the obstacles faced. Various media and applications available need to be used in an integrated manner, including synchronous and asynchronous learning (blended learning). By understanding the character of technology and using various media synergistically, digital learning runs effectively to achieve learning goals in higher education. Keywords: Digital communication technology, digital learning, higher education

Abstract

This study explores the public communication strategies employed by the South Sulawesi branch of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to disseminate Fatwa No. 1 of 2021, which prohibits almsgiving to street children and beggars in public spaces. In a rapidly evolving media landscape, the effective communication of religious edicts requires adaptive and contextually grounded approaches. Using an explorative qualitative design, data were gathered through in-depth interviews with MUI leaders, government officials, and community members, along with observations of digital and mass media content. Analysis employed the Miles and Huberman model and pragmatic-ethical discourse analysis, particularly focusing on six Qur’anic qaulan principles. The study found that the fatwa’s reach was achieved through two core strategies: strategic media engagement and collaboration with local authorities. Islamic communication ethics—especially qaulan sadidan (truthful speech) and qaulan layyinan (gentle speech)—were essential in building legitimacy and persuasive impact. The findings underscore the vital role of religious institutions as ethical communicators and agents of social change.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the implementation of multicultural education at UPT SPF Labuang Baji I Elementary School from the perspective of intercultural communication. Multicultural education is seen as a strategic effort to instill values of tolerance, justice, appreciation for diversity, and to build intercultural competence from an early age. Using a qualitative case study approach, data was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation to gain an in-depth understanding of multicultural education practices in elementary schools. The results of the study show that the school has integrated the principles of inclusivity, justice, and dialogue into the curriculum and learning activities. The communication patterns among students from various cultural backgrounds are quite harmonious, although barriers such as stereotypes and differences in communication styles still exist. The role of teachers as mediators of intercultural communication is a crucial factor in creating a conducive learning environment.
