Abstract

The Asian African Conference Museum owns a special library that has stored a variety of rare collections, especially collections on the holding of the 1955 Asian African Conference. This study aims to describe the preservation carried out by the library for those rare collections. The research used a descriptive qualitative method. The data were obtained through interviews with the staff of the Asian African Conference Museum Library, and literature studies. The result showed that the Asian African Conference Museum Library had preserved the collection by limiting visitors to the collection room, cleaning the dust using a vacuum cleaner, using shelves according to standards, cooperating with the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia in restoration, and implementing a ban on visitors carrying food/drink to the library. However, there were still many efforts that need to be implemented and optimized such as temperature and humidity control, lighting, pollution, prevention of insects and fungi, and anticipate natural disasters. The role of the librarian is needed to optimize the preservation of collection efforts in the Asian African Conference Museum Library.

This research is focused on the preservation and dissemination of IK, namely the Batak Toba language and script. The method used in this study is a qualitative research method, where data collection obtained through observation, interviews, and document analysis. The result of the study is that in the preservation and dissemination of the Batak Toba language and script using the World Bank theory which consists of six steps, some obstacles are still encountered. This obstacle causes many of the Batak Toba tribe overseas to prefer not to share and disseminate the Batak Toba language and script for the current generation/millennials. It is very unfortunate because the Batak Toba language and script are a national identity.

Abstract

This research was conducted to investigate archives as information infrastructure in research. This term is used because archives are seen as the primary source for research. Thus, it is very fundamental and urgent for researchers regarding the data to be used and their accuracy is reliable. The research used a qualitative descriptive method in the frame of a constructivist approach in reading the phenomena of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Archives. Data collection was carried out using three main techniques, namely interview, observation, and documentation. The results of the study found three important issues related to the existence of archives as information infrastructure on research, i.e. archives as a means of historical preservation, primary document, and research development capital. As a curator of history, it seems that its function is very important in historical research because its birth was not intended to produce historical materials, but was born by itself following the interaction of the people. As a primary document, archives are important because they were born simultaneously with events, not from the stories of social actors. As for the framework of research development capital, archives are a source that has a high degree of accuracy, so that its function in research is very important to produce qualified research.
