Abstract

This study aims to determine the librarian's understanding of data repository which include benefits, engagement of librarians in repository management, and repository implementation. The study has surveyed librarians at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences located in Jakarta, Bogor, Cibinong, and Serpong by distributing 45 questionnaires, but only 36 returned. The data were tabulated and analyzed using graphs/diagrams. The respondents of the study were female (61.1%) and male (38.9%). The education background of the respondents was undergraduate (50%), the most working period is between 20-30 years (38.9%), and the most work locations were in Jakarta (70.6%). The study showed that respondents with an undergraduate background and those who work in Jakarta have the highest understanding of the repository (69%). The most involved in repository management were those with bachelor's degrees and working in Jakarta (52%). Respondents who were involved in the socialization of the data repository were 47%, and those who were not involved were 44%. As many as 44% of respondents stated that the data repository has been implemented, and the remaining 56% said it has not been implemented. In conclusion, most respondents understand the data repository, especially those with a bachelor's degree, and were working in Jakarta. The data repository has not been implemented properly due to lack of outreach to researchers and their low trust in the data repository.

Abstract

Access to information becomes an important means of achieving success in various aspects of life. Thus, it is considered the rights of every citizen without being impeded by physical or mental limitations. This study aims to analyze access to information that supports students with visual impairments (blind) in conducting learning activities at the university. This research was conducted at the Social and Political Sciences Faculty of Universitas Airlangga (Unair) Surabaya, involving 11 informants, three of whom are visually impaired students (blind) in the faculty. The results of this study indicate that according to three of the visually impaired informants the assistive technologies they used to support their learning processes, such as mobile phones, laptops, scanners, and recording devices, were provided independently. The technology is very helpful for them to obtain information validly and quickly, as well as to understand the contents of the information more easily and assist them to share the information with other colleagues. The supporting informants are 3 lecturers from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Universitas Airlangga who teach visually impaired students, 3 friends of the main informant, 1 university representative, and 1 faculty representative. This paper uses an interpretive paradigm, which aims to analyze a social reality and how that reality is formed. This research uses a qualitative type that seeks to understand social or human problems, based on the creation of a complete holistic picture that is formed with words, reports the views of informants in detail, and arranged in a natural setting.

Abstract

For data, medium is the information itself, as stated by Marshal McLuhan in 1960’s. What Harold K. Innis would have to assume as “the bias of media”. In the midst of “total history” reawakening and the use of “big data” and “one data,” issues on source criticism towards data are deliberately ignored as soon as online access is open for public. Similar to Heather Sutherland’s “historicizing history” and Samuel Wineberg’s “historical thinking”, principles on records processes are among others efforts to protect historical data. This writing describes source criticisms on digital archival records.

Abstract

Libraries must play a role in knowledge management created by all academicians so that it can be used by anyone. This study analyzes publications about the role of libraries in supporting knowledge management. The data were obtained from the Scopus database. The retrieval technique is by entering the keywords "Knowledge Management" and "Library" with a publication year limitation between 1992-2020. The data obtained were then grouped based on the year of publication, publication source and type of literature. For keyword mapping, this study used VosViewer. The results of the analysis showed that research publications on the role of libraries in supporting knowledge management were mostly carried out in 2013 and 2016. Library Management is the journal that publishes the most literature related to this research object, there were 11 documents with a total of 185 citations, was in the form of articles. From the VosViewer mapping, it showed that there were four clusters. Research topics that were mostly carried out were knowledge management systems, knowledge management, libraries and information science, academic libraries, knowledge sharing, knowledge management models, librarians, research development management, information science, innovation, library services, and university libraries.

Abstract

In the disruption era, libraries are required to be able to innovate and adapt to rapid changes. This condition was responded to by Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November’s (ITS) Library by implementing Outbound Staff Mobility (OSM) program. OSM was first initiated in 2013 and continues till today. The study describes the implementation of OSM at ITS Library in order to improve librarian competence. The data was obtained through interviews with OSM organizers, the head of ITS library, and ITS librarians who have engaged during 2013-2018. In addition, the data were also obtained through observation and documentation. The data analysis used the Creswell data analysis model. OSM program has implemented well. It can be seen from the effectiveness of the clarity of the objectives to be achieved, the clarity of the strategy for achieving objectives, the process of analysis and policy formulation, careful planning, proper programming, the availability of facilities and infrastructure, and the availability of a monitoring system and control. In addition, it has impacted on increasing the professional competence of librarians, such as increasing insight in managing services, utilizing information technology, providing guidance and assistance, and management of problems through creative ideas and innovation.

Abstract

This research was conducted to investigate archives as information infrastructure in research. This term is used because archives are seen as the primary source for research. Thus, it is very fundamental and urgent for researchers regarding the data to be used and their accuracy is reliable. The research used a qualitative descriptive method in the frame of a constructivist approach in reading the phenomena of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Archives. Data collection was carried out using three main techniques, namely interview, observation, and documentation. The results of the study found three important issues related to the existence of archives as information infrastructure on research, i.e. archives as a means of historical preservation, primary document, and research development capital. As a curator of history, it seems that its function is very important in historical research because its birth was not intended to produce historical materials, but was born by itself following the interaction of the people. As a primary document, archives are important because they were born simultaneously with events, not from the stories of social actors. As for the framework of research development capital, archives are a source that has a high degree of accuracy, so that its function in research is very important to produce qualified research.

Abstract

The Presidential Regulation on e-Government in 2018 became the starting point for accelerating e-Government implementation in Indonesia. This moment prompted government agencies to compete in digitizing their organizations to apply the regulation. Digital information as the output of this massive digitalization will be abundant and must be managed properly which is certainly vulnerable to threats. Such threats can compromise the authenticity of records and make them untrustworthy. An adequate risk detection framework that fits the context of the digital environment is needed to minimize these incidents. This framework contains a records management perspective that has undergone a paradigmatic shift. This framework adopts the view that records management is an integral part of digital information management. The study used a qualitative method and found that from the perspective of records management, the risk detection framework in digital information management sheds light on aspects of context (external and internal), systems, and processes. However, its smooth implementation in the digital environment, especially in Indonesia, is determined by the extent to which paradigmatic reforms in records management have taken place.
