Abstract

Floodplain river ecosystem in Kampar River of Riau Province has a unique water characteristics. This area was the production center of freshwater fish in Riau. Selais fish was the maskot of Pekanbaru city and typical food from Riau. Selais Kaporeh(Ompok eugeneiatus) is one of fish in Buluh Cina and Mentulik and known to have high economic value in Kampar district. The objectives of this research were to determine the reproduction aspect of Selais Kaporeh including the level of gonads maturity(TKG), index of gonads maturity, fecundity and reproductive potential. This study had been conducted from February to April 2013 in Buluh Cina and Mentulik village. The samples were collected using survey method. The numbers of Selais Kaporeh collected were 155 fishes that consist of 137 females and 18 males, with sex ratio 7,61:1. The length of female fish ranged between 9,3-20,3 cm and weight ranged from 3,1-34,7 g.The length of males range were between 10-14,9 cm and weight range were 2.5-10.8 g. The gonads maturity level of female and male of Selais Kaporeh fish observed rangedfrom TKG I-IV. The index of gonads maturity (IKG) from female and male fish from TKG I-IV were between 0-10,82% and 0-4,4%. IKG increased following TKG and decreased after spawnings. Fecundity were 1825 eggs. Selais Kaporeh did not lay eggs simultaneously in one spawning season and they tend to spawn throughout the year.

Abstract

A  research  has been  conducted  to   analyze  characteristics  of  semi-coke  and  the best activated carbon  absorption  after  the activation process  by  determining the  iodine number and refering to  the  Indonesian National Standard  of  activated carbon  materials. The  carbonization  temperatures of peat  soil  were  400oC,  500oC,  and  600°C.  Activated process was carried out at  temperature of 900 °C with  duration time  20, 40  and 60 minutes. Result of the  research  showed that the  best sample of semi-coke  was the sample which was carbonized at  600oC  and  with its duration  time of  60  minutes.  The sample characteristics of the moisture content, ash content, volatile matter content,  fixed carbon content  and heat value,  respectively were 4.91%, 12.24%, 13.43%, 69.42% and 4085.22  Kal/g.  The highest  iodine  number of the best sample was  686  mg/g  and yield was 38% at  600oC  carbonization temperature  and duration time of  60  minutes  with  theactivation temperature of 900oC and duration time of 60 minutes.

Abstract

Freshwater crab is widely distributed in river, lake, swamp, canal, and pond. Riau Province has many freshwater crabs, however biological information of these organisms are poorly known. This study aimed to understand the freshwater crab types from the Kampar Utara District, Riau Province. Samples from 14 sampling sites, in the Sawah, Sendayan and Sungai Jalau village had been collected from March to April 2013 using bamboo traps and scoop net. There were 178 crabs captured and all of them belonged to a single genus, Parathelpusa. Numbers of crab were obtained from the shallow riverines with numerous aquatic vegetation and no crab caught in the rivers. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the habitat of Parathelpusa in Riau is shallow riverine with dense aquatic vegetation.

Abstract

Surface modification of activated carbon monolith electrode   for  a  supercapacitor cell from rubber wood has successfully been made by two activation methods. Physical activation  was perfomed  using  CO2  gas  at a temperature of  800oC, and chemical  activation used  3  M  KOH  and  3  M  NaOH  as activation  agents. This study used two kinds  of activated agents, namely COK for KOH activated agent and CON for NaOH activated agent. Both  activation methods yielded different physical and electrochemical properties. The  physical properties  that were analyzed  were  density ,   surface  morphology,  and  BET  surface area,  whereas  the electrochemical properties were specific capacitance, specific energy,  and specific power.  N2  gas  isothermal  adsorption  showed  a BET  surface area  of  577.52  m2g-1 and  441.45  m2g-1. Meanwhile,  the electrochemical  properties obtained of sample were  the specific  capacitance  values  of  103.65  Fg-1 and  83.45  Fg-1for  CON  and COK, respectively . Based on all obtained data and their analysis, it was concluded that KOH   activators  resulted  the  electrochemical properties  better  compared tothose of  NaOH activators.

Abstract

This research was aimed to asses morfometric parameters of digestive tracts especially intestine and stomach of Parang-parang fish (Chirocentrus dorab Forskall 1775). This study was conducted from June to August 2012. The samples were collected using survey method. Fish samples were 76 individuals collected from fisherman in Bengkalis, Riau Province. Parameters which measured were the total body length, length of intestine, fish weight, and stomach weight. Data were analyzed using linear regression which consist of the ratio between stomach weight and fish weight with totalbody length, length of intestine with total body length, ratio between intestine length and total body length with total body length and ratio between weight of intestine and fish weight with total body length. The result indicated that parang-parang fish was considered as carnivorous fish based on the length of its intestine, i.e 0,32-0,43 times of its total body length for male fish and 0,33-0,39 times of its total body length for femalefish. Total body length of parang-parang fish was positively correlated to its intestine length and ratio between intestine length and total body length.

Abstract

A research has been done in analyzing an acoustic wave and its effect to casing pressure and gas flow at annulus in order to determine liquid level depth of oil well. The research used an  experiment method  using  sonolog  type  remote fire gas gun  with  its  sound wave frequency  between  30 Hz  –  60 Hz.  Data were  taken from three oil wells that are managed  by  the  Unit of business Pertamina EP Lirik. Each  well was measured  five times  at different time.  The  data obtained were analyzed  by  Total Well Management (TWM) software. They were acoustic velocity, casing pressure, and gas flow. The value of acoustic velocity  shown by  TWM  sometimes  didn’t match to the  real condition including the data of  determined  liquid level depth.  New value of  acoustic  velocity had been gotten  using  multiple regression linear  equation. Time  travel  of  wave  was measured using Down Hole Marker  at TWM.  Result of calculation of  acoustic velocity based on  measured data  for well LS-031 at November 24th 2011 was 397,7138 m/s,  for well LS-105 measured at March 13th 2010 was 359,6792 m/s, for well LS-105 measured at November 25th was 356,17 m/s. Results  of calculation  of liquid level depth for well LS-031 was 249,9634 m, for well LS-105  was 261,23 m,  and  for well LS-097 was 246,96 m.

Abstract

Durian (Durio zibethinus Murr.) is a widely cultivated fruit crops in tropical region, especially in Indonesia. The nickname of this plant is King of tropical fruit. Kampar district is one of the largest producers of durian in Riau Province. Geographical location and high rain season of this region cause flooding, therefore Kampar often has periodic flooding. The purpose of this research was to determine the growth response of five cultivars of durian seedling from Kampar in various periods of inundation. Seedlings of five cultivar durian (Malukuik, Terong, Tembaga, Jantung and Kunyit) were given periodic inundation of 5 days and 10 days for 60 days with the same recovery period (5 days with 10 cm inundation height). The results showed that inundation 5 and 10 days significantly reduced all of the durian seedling growth with the observed parameters were the durian seedling height (52% and 70%), number of leaves (64% and 72%), total wet weight (27 % and 22%), root volume (43% and 33%), and root dry weight (45% and 38%). However the ratio of roots shoots increased while the interaction among durian cultivars did not show significant differences.

Abstract

The research on the growth response of nyamplung seedlings (Calophyllum inophyllum L.) with flooding in the mineral soil and peat soil had been conducted at the Laboratory of Botany, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Riau, from December to January 2014. The purpose of this study was to test the ability of nyamplung to grow with flooding using the mineral soil and peat soil. This study used randomized block design with one factor (flooding) and five replicates, the height of inundation was 2 cm above the soil surface. The results indicated that nyamplung might grow in the mineral soil with flooding, the precentage of plant damage was 20% whereas in peat soil with flooding, nyamplung could not grow and 100% had plant damage.

Abstract

DNA isolation is a process to obtain pure DNA. The total DNA isolated includes nuclei and cytoplasm DNA (mitochondrial and chloroplast DNA). The total DNA can be used as stock for further genetic diversity analysis. Scientific information on genetic diversity of selais fish in Indonesia, particularly in Riau is still limited. One of the dominant species of selais fish in Riau is Ompok eugeneiatus. The research was conducted to obtain the total DNA of selais fish which can be used as a template DNA for genetic diversity analysis. The research had been conducted from December 2013 to May 2014 and the study site was located in Kampar Kiri and Indragiri Hulu rivers, Riau Province. Ten samples were isolated from each river. The DNA isolation process used isolation and purification kit (Qiagen DNeasy Blood & Tissue brand). The DNA isolation process was conducted based on the existing protocol. The total DNA were then migrated on 1% agarose gel and then visualized using UV transluminator. This research obtained the total DNA from each selais fish samples of Ompok eugeneiatus from the Kampar Kiri and Indragiri Hulu rivers with different quantity. The total DNA obtained were not fragmented.

Abstract

Ompok hypophthalmus is a freshwater fish which lives flood plain river. Siak river is one of flood plain river in Riau province. Siak river is very valuable for Pekanbaru people for household to industrial purposes. The household and industrial activity may cause the decrease of water quality. The contaminated water affects the living things in this area, such as O.hypophthalmus fish. Therefore, it is necesarry to detect the water quality decrease by observing the intestine structure of O.hypophthalmus. This study aimed to find out the histological structure of intestine tissue of Ompok hypophthalmus, especially which lives in the Siak I and Siak II bridge. This study was conducted from January to April 2014. Histological slide of O.hypophthalmus intestine were made using paraffin method and stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE). The results showed that the intestine parasite infections was found in O.hypophthalmus, as well as lymphocyte stacking, villous unification, epithelium lysis, and lamina propria widening. The tissue damage in intestine might be due to the content of heavy metal above the normal standard.
