Abstract

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a plant that is not resistant to the salt stress, but the development of agriculture in coastal areas requires the analysis of rice genotypes that are resistant to the salt stress. The salt stress may cause chromosomal abnormality, such as sticky chromosome. This study was aimed to analyze the influence of the salt stress on the formation of chromosomes in four rice genotypes originating from Bantan Air village, Bengkalis. This research was conducted using randomized block design (RBD) with two factors, i.e. NaCl concentrations (0 mM, 60 mM, 75 mM, and 90 mM) and the rice genotypes (IR64, Indragiri, Solok, Sadani, Yamin, and Amat Candu) with three replications for each treatment. Normal anaphase chromosomes were visible in control, whereas sticky chromosomes were seen in 90 mM salt exposure. It concluded that salt stress may cause sticky chromosomes.

Abstract

This article discusses the family of Laguerre method to find multiple roots of non-linear equations with a known multiplicity. Analytically, we show that this iterative method has a convergence of order three. Furthermore, by choosing the value of certain parameter in the Laguerre method, we obtained several well-known iterativemethods. Using some test functions, we compare the family of Laguerre methods to obtain a root of nonlinear equation by looking at the number iterations of the methods. In addition, comparisons are also made through Basins of Attraction.

Abstract

Inefficient of P-uptake by plants during the application of chemical phosphorus (P) fertilizer results P-leaching to the aquatic environment. Therefore, the use of phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB) to enhance solubilization of P is necessary. The aims of this study were to find the best formulation in producing liquid biofertilizer which contained PSB and to analyze the storage time of liquid biofertilizer which were produced. As many as 4 selected PSB isolates (BB_UB6, BB_K9, BB_K2 and BB_HS13) were used to produce 3 combination starters. Liquid biofertilizers were produced by fermentation using three types of formulation, namely Pikovskaya's medium, coconut water enriched with 2% molasses, and tofu waste water. The quality of liquid biofertilizer was determined by calculating the PSB cells number during 0, 30, and 60 days of storage time and by measuring the liquid biofertilizer acidity. Liquid biofertilizers produced were kept at room and refrigerator temperature. The results showed that the PSB cell numbers of starter I, II and III were higher in liquid biofertilizer that was formulated with coconut water which containing 2% of molasses until 60 days of storage time. The cell numbers of PSB ranged from 7,0×1010 - 2,82×1011 CFU/ml. In general, the PSB cell number was relatively stable when liquid biofertilizer was kept at room temperature. Based on this results, it can be concluded that the best formulation to produce liquid biofertilizer was the coconut water enriched with 2% molasses.

Abstract

This article discusses how to nd a solution of linear system of equations Ax = b, with A in the form of Z -matrix, using preconditioned Gauss-Seidel method. Pre-condition matrix used is the matrix proposed by J.H. Yun [Applied Mathematics Letters, 27: 207-215 (2012)]. Analytically it is shown that the spectral radius ofthe iteration matrix of the preconditioned Gauss-Seidel method is smaller than that of the standard Gauss-Seidel method. Furthermore, from the numerical experiment in solving a linear system of equation Ax = b, it is seen that the preconditionedGauss-Seidel method requires fewer iterations than standard Gauss-Seidel method.

Abstract

Citrus (Citrus nobilis Lour.) from Kampar is one of primary commodities from Riau province. However, virus attacks cause citrus plants become sick and even died, therefore it is difficult to find the healthy citrus plants. In order to recover this condition, it is necessary to provide citrus seedlings in large quantities. One alternative to provide citrus seedling in large quantities is through tissue culture technique (in vitro culture). This study aimed to find out the effect of benzil amino purine (BAP) and to determine the optimal concentration of BAP in inducing shoot of citrus. This experiment was designed using a randomized block design (RBD) with various concentrations of BAP. The results showed that the treatment with 1 mg/l BAP was the best in inducing the number of shoots (3 shoots/explant) and treatment with 0.5 mg/l BAP was the best in generating shoot length (3.11 cm) and number of leaves (5.26 piece/shoot).

Abstract

This article discusses the Chebyshev-Halley method free from second derivative with one parameter, which is a modification of Chebyshev-Halley method with third order convergence. This method has a convergence of sixth order if the value of theparameter is one and of fifth order if the value of the parameter is other than one. For each iteration of this method, four function evaluations are needed, so that the efficiency index for the parameter is 614 = 1.565. Furthermore, the computational test shows that the discussed method is better than Newton method, Chebyshev method, Halley method, and Super Halley method in terms of the error produced in obtaining the estimated root.

This article discusses the commissioner reserves for endowment insurance, where in determining the  annual premium is used single premium and the cash value of the  m times  annuity  payments per year by the Woolhouse’s formula.  Moreover, in determining the commissioners reserves is also used commutation functions.

Abstract

Peat soil has been known for its low content in phosphor (P). On the other hand, P solubilizing process is naturally slow. Inoculation of phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB) could increase this process. Therefore, the exploration of bacteria with such potential for use as biofertilizer agents is needed. Quality of biofertilizer depends on the viability and amount of bacteria contained, it is also influenced by type of carrier material. This research was aimed to find the appropriate carrier materials in production of biofertilizer which were contained PSB agent and to determine the quality of biofertilizer produced at a certain storage time. As many as 4 selected PSB isolates (BB_UB6, BB_K9, BB_K2, and BB_HS13) were used to produce 3 starter combinations. The starters were prepared by growing the isolates in Pikovskaya’s media. Biofertilizer was produced by inoculating each starter into the peat and wood charcoal as carrier material and was fermented for 4 days. Biofertilizer quality was determined by calculating the PSB cells number during 0, 30, 60, and 90 days storage time and the degree of biofertilizer acidity. The cell numbers of starter I, II, and III ranged from 8.2.1010-2.9.1011 CFU/g, 5.3.1010-2.9.1011 CFU/g, and 8.0.1010-2.9.1011 CFU/g, respectively in a period of storage 0-90 days. The highest cell number at the end of storage was found from biofertilizer produced by using peat, as carrier material which was kept at 40C (1,3.1011 CFU/g, starter I), (8.6.1010 CFU/g, starter II), and (9.6.1010 CFU/g, starter III). Biofertilizer acidity was relatively neutral, 6.38. Based on the results obtained, peat was revealed as a good carrier material and the quality of biofertilizers which were produced was still good.

Abstract

Pappus theorem is  a  theorem that shows  collinearity of three points.  The three points are  the result of intersection lines  that  connects  any  six points. Any six points  are divided into  three points on a straight line and three points on another straight line. This paper  shows  that Pappus theorem  is  valid at  a  conic section  (ellips, parabola and hyperbola). The properties of  cross  ratio  are utilized to prove the validity of Pappus at the conic section.

Abstract

We discuss a polynomial solution of linear and nonlinear Volterra integral equations by stating their solutions in the form of a Taylor series. Furthermore, the coefficients of the Taylor series are determined by solving a system of linear equation. Then by inserting these coefficients into the Taylor series, we obtained a polynomial solution of linear and nonlinear Volterra integral equations in a simple form.
