Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determined whether the isolates of Lactobacillus plantarum1 isolated from spontaneous sly fermented soymilk as well as cell-free supernatants have antimicrobial properties against pathogenic bacteria. This research was carried out experimentally using completely randomized design(CRD) with four isolates as treatments and four eplications. Antimicrobial activity was tested using the well diffusion method and the paper disc diffusion. Results of analysis of variance showed that the antimicrobial activity of lactic acid bacteria isolates and cell-free supernatant of thebacteriumEscherichiacoliFNCC-19 and Staphylococcus aureusFNCC-15 were significantly different (P <0.05).Average inhibition zone diameter isolates of lactic acid bacteria against bacteria Escherichia coli FNCC-19 ranged from 0.00 to 5.95 mm and the diameter of inhibition zone Staphylococcus aureus FNCC-15 ranged from 0.00 to 4.38 mm. The average value of inhibition zone diameter of the cell-free supernatant of the bacterium Escherichia coli FNCC-19 ranged from 0.50 to 1.70 mm. The diameter of inhibition zone against Staphylococcus aureus FNCC-15 ranged between 0.40-0.50 mm. The results of this study indicate that the isolates of Lactobacillusplantarum1R.1.3.2and the supernatant thas greater antimicrobial activity than isolates of Lactobacillusplantarum1R.11.1.2.   Keywords:Antimicrobials, Lacticacid bacteria and Lactobacillusplantarum 1

Abstract

The objective of this study was to obtainthebestpercentage of torch gingerflowerforuse inmaking ofcrackers. This research wascarried outexperimentally usingcompletely randomized design(CRD) withfivetreatments, namely: K1(torch gingerflower0%); K2(torch gingerflower10%); K3(torch gingerflower15%); K4(torch gingerflower20%) andK5(torch gingerflower25%). The results showedthat thetreatmentlevel oftorch gingerflowerusein the making ofcrackerssignificant effecton ash, protein, calciumlevels of itandinflating power of crackersas well asorganolepticassessment, namely thecolor, aroma, flavorandcrispness, butnot significanteffecton thewater contentandthe overallassessment of crackers. Thetreatment ofK5(torch gingerflower25%) resulted ina bettercrackerswithash content5.06%, protein1.38% 29.31mg/100gcalcium, inflating power of crackers 54.67%, slightlybrowncolor, lessdistinctivetorch gingerflower aroma, typical flavor of torch gingerflower andlesscrisp, and the overallassessmentof thiscrackerwaspreferredby thepanelists.   Keyword: crackers, torch ginger flower

Abstract

This research aims were to obtain the best concentration of sodium lauryl sulfate and sucrose and to know the characteristics consumer acceptance of transparent soap from purified used cooking oil. This research used completely randomized design (CRD) with 17 treatments and three replications.Observations of the purified used cooking oil were water content, free fatty acids, saponification number and descriptive organoleptic test. Meanwhile, the observations of transparent soap includes moisture content, free fatty acids, saponification number, pH, foam test, irritation test and organoleptic tests. The results showed that best formulation of transparent soap was1,5%sodium lauryl sulfateand 15,5% sucrose with water content 4,46%, free fatty acid not detected, the volume of foam is 166,49 cm3, pH 9,8, hardness test 0,37 cm/second and no cause irritation.   Keyword: cooking oil, transparent solid soap, sodium lauryl sulfate, sucrose.

Abstract

The purpose of this research to get the best quality of dragon fruit syrup while storage with in the addition of chitosan. The research was conducted by Completely Randomized Design (CRD), that use 5 chitosan addition variable (0%; 0,5%; 1,0%; 1,5%; 2,0%) and than it repeated three times. Parameters measured were pH, fungi growth, sucrose concentration, viscosity and organoleptic were will be measure parameters organoleptik characteristics that consist of color, aroma, flavor, and overall assessment. The observations were analyzed using statistic. If the F calculated is greater or equal to F table will be  conducted by 5% Duncan test. The addition of chitosan will decreased pH, sucrose concentration, viscosity and organoleptic. For the growth of the fungi was increased though addition of chitosan that extend the shelf life of dragon fruit syrup. The higher chitosan concentration will deareased level of preference from panelists. The optimum concentration chitosan addition was representative 0,5% chitosan addition.   Keywords:Syrup,dragon fruit, chitosan

Abstract

The role of wheat flour is very important in the food industry in Indonesia. Wheat flour is still imported by Indonesia  which reaches three million tons / year. One way to reduce the import of wheat flour is by the utilization of local sago.The purpose of this study was to obtain the effect of fermentation time for modification of sago starch by Lactic Acid Bacteria by the soaking method. This research has been conducted in the Laboratory of Agricultural  Technology and Laboratory of Agricultural Product Analysis, University of Riau. This research was conducted experimentally using a Completely Randomized Design  with 5 treatments and 3 replications. The results obtained show that sago starch fermentation significantly affected the water, ash and amylose contents, viscosity, and descriptive assessment of the aroma, color and flavor. However, there was no significantly affect on the pH and total Lactic Acid Bacteria.   Key words:sago starch, fermentation, lactic acid bacteria

Abstract

This research has been done on Liong river, located in Bengkalis Island on December 2013 by using ALOS AVNIR-2 2009th and RapidEye 2011th. The aims of this research is to know the mangrove cover change on Liong river start from 2009thuntil 2011th. The research method are red green methode then continued by using classification maximum likelihood method and for the accuracy mapping was evaluated by confusion matrix. The results showed that the mangrove’s cover on Liong river has changed and increase. In 2009 mangrove cover from 792,01 ha and increase becoming 812,61 ha. It showed that the rate of mangrove cover located in Liong river which represent increase of 20,6 ha in two years periode. Keywords: mangrove, satellite imagery, change detection.

Abstract

Changing the functions of forest areas in Balai Raja became farmland, plantations and settlements is a major factor in the occurrence of Human-Elephant Conflict. This research aims to identify the typology of Human-Elephant Conflict, to know the success of efforts to overcomingthe Human-Elephant Conflict which has been applied and to calculate the economic losses as a result of Human-Elephant Conflict on Petani and Balai Makam villages. The method used consisted of survey methods toward the ravages of Human-Elephant Conflict and interviews to the people who are in conflict with elephants. The results showed that there are 4 Elephant-Human Conflict typology: Elephants damaging crops, damaging the elephant hut community, the elephants attacked human and human kill the elephants. Various efforts have been undertaken, but the results have not been able to resolve conflicts of an elephant for the long term. Attempts at countermeasures which were undertaken are only able to tackle the conflict of elephants in a while. As a result of Human-Elephant Conflict, it resulted in economic losses either directly or indirectly. The desired people efforts in resolving the conflicts of human-elephant is to move the elephants from the scene of the conflict. Human-Elephant Conflict resolution can be done by restore the status of Balai Raja that is habitat of elephants. Conflict resolution in the long term can be done with the elephant habitat management with enriching germplasm that can serve as the source of the feed elephants.   Key words: Dynamics, conflict, conflict resolution, conflict prevention.

Abstract

Sumatra’s Elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) including one of the endangered animals and is the largest animal is still alive and could only be encountered on the island of Sumatra. Form of elephant population dynamics influenced food availability, water availability and mineral salts. The results showed that the sign of Sumatra’s Elephant often encountered in the area of ​​plantations, secondary forests and shrubs. Estimates as many that 49 elephant dung and 2450 pellets with an area of ​​0.02 km² transect. Elephant population density as much as 0,966 head/0,02km2. Estimates of the total number of Sumatran Elephants using dung circumference measurement method (dung) Is estimated at about 20 head. Feed plants identified as many that 29 species of elephants consisting of 16 family. Plant seedlings elephants feed as many that 11 species and 18 herbaceous species. Plants that are found for levels of herbaceous Poaceae and Asteraceae tribe while the seedlings are found plants belonging to the family Myrtaceae, Moraceae, and Euphorbiaceae. Elephant feed production as much as 11,108 kg / ha. Elephant feed requirements with an approximate calculation of the number of elephants 0,48 head / ha requires feed 144 kg / ha. Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of the role water immersion of Piper betle leaf. Protect Paraserianthes falcataria of seed quality and know the best dosage Piper betle leaf soaking in Paraserianthes falcataria maintain quality seed. The research method used in completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 4 replications. The treatment consisted of: S0=Paraserianthes falcataria soaking seeds without Piper betle leaves in 1 liter of water; S1=Paraserianthes falcataria soaking seeds with 100 g of Piper betle leaves in 1 liter of water; S2=Paraserianthes falcataria soaking seeds with 200 g of Piper betle leaves in 1 liter of water; S3=Paraserianthes falcataria soaking seeds with 300 g of Piper betle leaves in 1 liter of water. Research has shown that the Paraserianthes falcataria seeds soaking with water immersion Piper betle leaf able to maintain seed quality. Soaking seeds Paraserianthes falcataria with 300 g Piper betle leaves in 1 liter of water is the best treatment against the percentage of seed germination (81%), the rate of seed germination (3.42 days), increasing the height of drill (4.07 cm) and the time of seed germination (81% in 9 days). Abstract

The study aims to determine the effectiveness of applications of supplemental liquid organic fertilizer and get the best concentration on the growth and yield of mustard (Brassica juncea L.) This research was conducted at the experimental station faculty of agriculture, University of Riau in january to februari 2014. Completely randomized design with 4 treatment and 5 replication use in this experiment. The treatment consisted application of supplemental liquid organic fertilizer with concentration is :P0 : without application of supplemental liquid organic fertilizer, P1 : supplemental liquid organic fertilizer concentration 1 cc/l of water, P2 : supplemental liquid organic fertilizer concentration 2 cc/l of water and P3 : supplemental liquid organic fertilizer concentration 3 cc/l of water. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance and mean separation with Duncan Multiple Range Test at the 5% level. The parameters measured were the plant height, leaf number, leaf area, plant fresh weight and weight of crop suitable for consumption. The results showed that application of supplemental liquid organic fertilizer significantly affected to parameters of plant height, leaf number, leaf area, plant fresh weight and weight of crop suitable for consumption. Application of supplemental liquid organic fertilizer at concentrations 3 cc /l of water is the best concentration for all parameters tested.
