Abstract

The need for ammonia increases along with the number of finished products that use ammonia as a raw material in the manufacturing process. Ammonia is widely used in the fertilizer industry, textile industry and as a refrigerant. The main raw materials used in manufacture of ammonia by the KBR (Kellogg Braun and Root) process are natural gas and air. This plant is planned to operate for 330 days per year and work continuously for 24 hours/day with capacity of 350,000 ton/year which will be established in Dumai, Riau. The remaining time for 1 year of the operation process is used for shutdown, plant maintenance, maintenance and repair of equipment. The design of the main equipment in this plant is CO2 Stripper which functions to regenerate monodiethanolamine solvent by releasing carbon dioxide from monodiethanolamine solution. CO2 Stripper is operated at a pressure of 10 Bar and a temperature of 85 °C. The economic analysis on the design of this plant shows that the ammonia plant from hydrocarbons and air is feasible to be established with the profits that the plant gets after tax is Rp. 867,865,241,024/year and the plant's Payback Period (PBP) is 1.8 years. Abstract

The increasing use of fuel oil in line with population growth and industrial growth, demands a thought to explore and develop potential alternative energy sources. Alternative energy sources that can be used as renewable energy include briquettes derived from biomass. One of the biomass from agricultural waste is empty palm fruit bunches and spent bleaching earth, which is waste from the CPO bleaching process that is not used optimally. Utilization of empty palm fruit bunches by adding spent bleaching earth which can be used as solid fuel in the form of briquettes through a carbonization process with the addition of tapioca as adhesive. Abstract

Linear alkyl benzene (C6H5CnH2n+1) is one of the organic compound used as a raw material in the detergent industry because it has a high degradation rate and it is biodegradable. The increasing use of detergents, the linear alkyl benzene industry will also be growing. This plant is designed to produce 80,000 tons per year of linear alkyl benzene (LAB). One of the main equipment in this plant is the alkylation reactor. This equipment is designed to react mono olefins and benzene to produce linear alkyl benzene (LAB) and heavy alkyl benzene (HAB) as side products with ZSM-5 catalyst via alkylation reaction. This reactor type is a fixed bed multitube reactor with cooling water as an internal cooler in the shell and this reactor is operated isothermally at temperature input and output of 403 K and pressure of 2.73 bar. The feed flow rate is 44680,877 kg per hour consisting of benzene and a mixmonoolefin. The height of this reactor is 8.85 m and a diameter of 3.45 m with torispherical flanged and dished head and skirt support. Abstract

Kampar is a regency in Riau Province which economic activities depend on fisheries. A problem that exists in Kampar’s fisheries is an imbalance in the amount of fish production with the amount of fish needed by the community. To help Kampar Fisheries Department employees to overcome these problems, a Java-based Information System and an Android-Based Information System will be created. To create the information system, Netbeans and Android Studio software with Java language are needed. The method used in this research is a waterfall where each stage of the research is carried out sequentially. The result of this research is an information system that provides specific data so that it can facilitate employees of the Kampar Fisheries Department employees to balance the amount of fish production with the amount of fish needed by the community.Keywords: Information System, Fish Production, Java, Kampar

Abstract

Bengkalis Island is a peat island which is prone to beach abrasion. Abrasion happens at the rate of 32,5 m/year,especially on the west of Bengkalis Island. The relatively lightweight characteristic of peat materials makes it moresusceptible to beach abrasion and sedimentation. Since peatland beaches are very rare in the world, study aboutpeatland beaches abrasion was also rarely done. To understand this phenomenon, this study has made a physicalmodel in the laboratorium. Experiment using this physical model was done in Hydrotechnical Laboratorium atDepartment of Civil Engineering, Universitas Riau, through Multi Teaching Flame method, while the sample materialof peat soil from Bengkalis Island Beach was subjected into preliminary property test. Experiment was done using 3scenarios of wave height generated by wave generator, and 3 variation of beach slope, which was 1:2.5, 1:5 and1:7.5. Data taken on this study were elevation of peak and valley of the wave (H), wave period (T) and sedimentheight (d) which was measured every 30 minutes for 300 minutes. Morphological changes of beach as a result ofbeach abrasion and sedimentation are further evaluated in terms of wave height and beach slope. Through this study,it can be concluded that wave length and rate affected by depth of the sea. The smaller the slope of the beach, themore stable the beach, which make it more susceptible from erosion.Keyword: Bengkalis Island, Morphological Changes, Physical Model, Wave and Slope

Abstract

Propylene glycol or 1,2-propanediol is an organic compound that has low toxicity so it is used as a raw material in food products, cosmetics, and medicines. Propylene glycol is used as a solvent and preservative, moisturizer, medicinal formula and viscosity stabilizer in paints.The purity of propylene glycol that meets USP (United States Pharmacopeia) standards is >99.5% The need for propylene glycol increases over time. The increase in demand for propylene glycol is projected at 5% per year based on data from the BPS (Badan Pusat Statistika) for the last 6 years. However, until now there has not been a single Indonesian company that produces propylene glycol, so domestic needs still rely on imports. The increasing need for imports will reduce the source of foreign exchange for the country. Therefore, the construction of a propylene glycol plant is indispensable. The purpose of this study is to get an overview of calculations regarding propylene glycol factories in Indonesia with the main design is a distillation column (D-102) which serves to increase the purity of propylene glycol. The type of distillation column used is the tray column with the diameter of coloumn is 21,50 inch and the height of coloumn is 425,19 inch. The operating conditions in the distillation column are temperature of 460oK and an operating pressure of 1 atm. Plant economic analysis is carried out to determine the feasibility of the factory to be built. Based on the results of the economic feasibility analysis of the factory, the propylene glycol plant is feasible to build with a 1,39-year POT, 42% BEP, 22.79% IRR, and 57% ROI.Keywords: propylene glycol, distillation, economic analysis, imports

Abstract

During 2018 there were quite severe fires in South Sumatra, one of which was Musi Banyuasin Regency. Approximately 38,000 hectares of land were burned due to the condition of the vast and dry peatlands making it difficult to extinguish during a fire. The peat layer will also be prone to fire if the groundwater level is deeper than 40 cm. Efforts to maintain a height of less than 40 cm are monitored by the groundwater level by direct measurement in the field. High monitoring by direct measurement is carried out using a Sensory data transmission Service Assiated by Midori Engineering (SESAME) tool that can record rainfall, temperature, and surface water data. The purpose of this study is to make a prediction model of water level on peatlands using a regression method and predict water level on peatlands within a certain period. The results showed that the regression analysis with a period of 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months to get the results of the prediction of groundwater level with a strong correlation coefficient value of 0.756; 0.773; and 0.742. Whereas in the regression analysis for 9 months, the prediction results of the groundwater level with a moderate correlation coefficient are 0.524.Key words: groundwater level, rainfall, regression analysis, peat

Abstract

Lightning is a natural phenomenon that cannot be controlled or prevented by humans. Lightning strikes not only strike flat areas such as the field, but objects with high structures will be very vulnerable to lightning strikes. Objects that have high-rise structures include trees, housing, skyscrapers, electricity transmission towers, and Base Transceiver Station (BTS) transmitting towers. BTS is a tall building that has a role in the sustainability of data information provision. To prevent the magnitude of the influence of lightning on the information data that is distributed so as not interrupted Lightning Protection System (LPS) is needed. Determination of whether the building requires LPS or not, can be known through several standards, namely the PUIPP standard, NFPA 780 standard and IEC 1024-1-1 standard. In this study, the authors took the 42-meter BTS tower building PT. Telekomunikasi Selular (TELKOMSEL) - Pekanbaru as an object and uses the rolling sphere method as a protection method. Abstract

Acrolein (C3H4O) is the simplest unsaturated aldehyde compound which can be used as a protective liquid fuel from microorganisms, essential amino acid methionine-making material and as a good separator and dispersing agent, widely used in the ceramic, paper and electroplating industries. The establishment of an acrolein factory made from crude glycerol with a capacity of 36,000,000 kg/year is planned in the city of Dumai, Riau Province, Indonesia. Geographical location is at 1o39.21”S 101o38’56”B. Acrolein production process uses glycerol as a raw material with a dehydration reaction to produce acrolein products. The reaction process is carried out at a temperature of 410 oC and a pressure of 1 bar. The reactor used is a fixed bed multitube reactor with isothermal reactor conditions using ZrO2 catalyst. The main design tool is the acrolein absorber (AB-101) which is used as an acrolein absorber which is evaporated on the flush drum (V-101). The type of absorber column used is a packed bed coulumn with a rasching ring type with ceramic material.Keywords: , Absorber, Acrolein, fixedbed multitube reactor

Abstract

CNC machines are machine tools that can be operated automatically. Usually a CNC machine can only do one machining process, so it is considered less effective. Based on this, the researchers conducted some research on machine tools capable of carrying out two or more machining processes (CNC Hybrid). In manufacturing CNC Hybrids, one that must be considered is the machine work area and accuracy. In this study, testing was conducted to determine the value of the work area and accuracy of the 3 Axis of CNC Hybrid. Testing is done by making as many as 20 pcs of product samples each. Furthermore, the products are measured to determine the value of the work area and accuracy of the machine. For the 3D printing process the test results are obtained in the form of a work area of 30 cm x 30 cm x 30 cm and a level of accuracy of 0.35 mm and a deviation value of 0.6205 mm. As for the machining process, the accuracy value is 0.45 mm and the repeat value is 18.15375 mm with a deviation of 1.84625 mm.Keywords : CNC, work area, accuracy, precision.
