Abstract

For many organizations, the Balanced Scorecard has evolved from a measurement tool to what Kaplan and Norton have described as a Strategic Management system. While the original intent of the Balanced Scorecard system was to balance historical financial numbers with the drivers of future value for the firm, as more and more organizations experimented with the concept they found it to be a critical tool in aligning short-term actions with their strategy. In this paper, I’ll explore each of the four perspectives of the Balanced Scorecard and identify the benefits of the scorecard in overwhelming the limitations of financial measurements.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the influence of Corporate Tax Ratio (CTR), Non Debt Tax Shield (NDTS), and Profitability (PR) variables against Leverage (LV) on the companies incorporated in kompas-100 index and listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange for period 2009-2011. The research employs a method of purposive sampling for sampling. Data – collected from 41 companies sampling – is obtained with a basis of Indonesian Capital Market Directory (ICMD) publication. The analysis technique employed is multiple regression analysis. With a basis of F statistic test, it indicates that both models meet fit criteria for their value of significance being less than 5% in a real rate. While t statistic-based test indicates that the corporate tax ratio (CTR) of the companies brings negative impact and is not significant against the policy of debt (Leverage) and this is proven from its value of significance being less than 5% in a real rate. Meanwhile Non Debt Tax Shield has positive and significant influence against the policy of debt (leverage) which is proven from its value of significance being less than 5% in a real rate. While profitability variable has a negative and significant influence, in line with the hypothesis formulated by the author, with a value of significance being less than 5% in real rate. The analysis results showed the significance of predictive ability of the three independent variables, such as Corporate Tax ratio, Non Debt Tax Shield, and profitability against policy of debt being at a rate of 11.6% indicated from the adjusted R2, the rest of which is as much as 88.4% being influenced by other variables beyond the model.

In addition, this study also aimed to test whether the pecking order theory or Static Trade Off Theory in effect on the mining company listed on the Stock Exchange in the year 2005-2008. This study uses causal research. Sample of research using non-probability sampling with a purposive sampling technique, in order to obtain a sample of seven companies with a four-year study period = 28 samples. Based on the results of multiple regression analysis with the F test, coefficient of determination (R square) shows the change of independent variables (asset tangibility, profitability, growth, non-debt tax shields, cash holding and firm size) are only able to explain changes in the dependent variable (leverage) at 42,8% (have a significant effect on leverage). While the rest equal to 57,2% explained by other factors not included in the regression model. Based on the results of T test showed that the variables are variables having significant influence of growth coefficient of 0,655 and significant value of 0,018. While other independent variables (asset tangibility, profitability, non-debt tax shields, cash holding and firm size) the significant value of more than 5% (not significant). Mining companies in Indonesia are more likely to follow the pecking order theory (POT) in establishing the companys funding decisions. Abstract

This study examines the influence of good corporate governance mechanisms consisting of the number of independent Commisioner members, institutional ownership, the number of audit committee members, the number of board members, return on assets and the price to book value ratio of the selected companies. This study uses as its sample, the 36 companies listed in the LQ-45 from the period August 2008 until January 2010. The data used are taken from the annual reports of the companies from 2008 to 2010. Data are analyzed with classical assumption test and multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS version 16. The normality test shows a normal distribution of data in this study; there is no multicollinearity or heteroscedasticity, and no autocorrelation. Hypothesis testing shows variable X1 (number of independent commisioner members), variable X2 (Institutional Ownership), and variable X3 (number of audit committee) had no significant effect on firm value. However, variable X4 (number of board members) and variable X5 (return on assets) show significant effect on firm value. Simultaneous testing demonstrated a significant effect from the five independent variables on firm value. The analysis indicates that applied good corporate governance will significantly affect company performance and hence will be transferred to company
