Abstract

The increase in energy demand causes a continuous increase in global temperatures exceeding pre-industrial temperatures with the release of toxic gases and radiation causing severe climate conditions. So, it is mandatory to develop durable and highly efficient thermal systems to overcome these problems. There has been much research into nanofluids to improve performance in thermal applications and have gained significant attention over the past few years due to their superior qualities. Additionally, other undesirable effects such as corrosion of equipment, non-biodegradable by-products occur due to the presence of strong chemicals. Therefore, the development of cost-effective and environmentally friendly nanofluids has emerged as a fast-growing alternative research field with many enthusiasts. The current review provides a comprehensive view of the various techniques used in the preparation of green nanofluids using several natural extracts. The unique morphology, optical properties, stability, high surface area, lower toxicity, and improved thermo-physical properties of green nanoparticles make them favorable choice candidates in enhancing the performance of thermal systems.

Abstract

Developments in the materials engineering have encouraged the incorporation of minerals such as kaolin, zirconia, and carbonate apatite, and natural materials. Indonesia, which has a tropical climate, is overgrown with pineapple plants. Geopolymer is a brittle ceramic material so it is necessary to increase its flexural strength value for composite application. Pineapple leaf fiber can be used as reinforcement in geopolymer composites. This study aims to analyze the effect of adding pineapple leaf fiber (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.) to the mechanical properties and morphological characteristics of metakaolin-zirconia-carbonate apatite-based geopolymer composites. The use of chitosan coupling agent as a binder between the matrix and filler. The research sample consisted of 4 groups with a total of 5 samples in each group. Fiber varied 0-4% in Geopolymer Composites. Geopolymer Composite samples were tested for flexural strength and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The test results showed that the addition of pineapple leaf fiber increased the flexural strength of the geopolymer composite. The composite without the addition of fiber had a flexural strength of 11.24 MPa, while the addition of 1%, 2.5%, and 4% pineapple fiber resulted in a flexural strength of 20.71 MPa, 11.57 MPa, and 11.01 MPa. The results of the SEM test show a picture of the void with varying sizes. The SEM Images of composite with the addition of 4% pineapple fiber showed the formation of Na2CO3 which explained the decrease in flexural strength compared to the sample without pineapple fiber addition.

Abstract

The food industry is required to carry out production efficiency by minimizing production costs and maintaining competitiveness in the market. One approach that has proven effective in optimizing the production process is through the application of aggregate production planning. This research aims to design a compromise production planning strategy by considering various factors that influence production costs in the food industry, achieve efficiency, and reduce production costs significantly. This research uses an aggregate production method through a compromise strategy model approach to order data for a year. The research results showed that there were two production planning alternatives, namely the first alternative is variable constant labour with overtime, required additional production costs of IDR 338,080,241, while the second alternative is workforce variations, required additional production costs of IDR 301,229,167. The second production alternative can be chosen to be implemented in production planning due to it requires lower costs. Through this study, it is expected that it can provide a valuable contribution to practitioners and academics in understanding the important role of aggregate production planning in achieving production cost efficiency goals in the food industry
