Abstract

Migration in Germany has a long history. The refugee crisis has made Germany become a main destination for refugees from the Middle East. As one of the European Union (EU) member countries, Germany could not make asylum rules based on its own regulation, but also must carry out the EU rules. In this case, EU has asylum regulation in its region through Common European Asylum System(CEAS). CEAS is a system that presents common minimum standards regarding the treatment of asylum seekers in EU member countries. This study will analyze how the implementation of CEAS by Germany in receiving refugees, especially from the Middle East in 2015-2017. This research will use descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through library research such as books, journals, documents, newspapers, articles and internet sources. It is analyzed by the concept of implementing public policies and concept of international regimes.

Abstract

This research shows various efforts of culture diplomacy that theUS company---such as Marvel Industry--has made through using  movies and comic bookson Captain Americain order to increase the US image as a superpower country. It specifically aims at strengthening American spirit of patriotism and nationalism againstseveral powerful countries,such as Russia and China.Recovering its negative images around the world, the Marvel Industry has sought hard to produced Captain America’s movies and comic books for building new image. The US government indirectly help this effort by issuing policies and various steps for ensuring all steps of producing the movies and comic books have been in line with the ways of increasing the US images internationally.

Abstract

Japanese Geisha Diplomacy is an important effort of the Japanese government in changing the international community's perception of Japan in treating women. This article seeks to analyze the Geisha Diplomacy in the context of the impact it has on the perceptions of members of the Republic of Indonesia Veterans Legion (LVRI) towards Japan. The analysis in this paper uses the concepts of cultural diplomacy, women's diplomacy and perception theory. Analysis of the perceptions of members of the Republic of Indonesia Veterans Legion (LVRI) shows that their perception of Japan is increasingly positive, especially after the emergence of Geisha Diplomacy by Japan.

Abstract

The power of movies are believed to be able to change the perception of international public  towards particular country.  Movies then became a popular thing as part of a country's cultural diplomacy because of its huge influence nowadays. A number of countries put movies as part of their cultural diplomacy. Likewise with Europe, which began to use Europe on Screen  (EoS) as part of its cultural diplomacy. However, the debate about cultural diplomacy appears to be related to the objectives of cultural diplomacy itself. Some academicians believe that diplomacy is always related to the political goals of the state, while others believe that cultural diplomacy must be distinguished from other diplomatic activities because the aim is merely to foster mutual understanding and harmony through the introduction of culture. This article was written to understand the concept of cultural diplomacy and to know whether a movie can be part of cultural diplomacy, especially activities organized by Europe on Screen. This article will be presented by tracing back what is meant by cultural diplomacy and how the practice of cultural diplomacy through movies by a number of countries. By referring to the conception of cultural diplomacy and the practice of using movies by a number of countries, this article puts Europe on Screen as part of cultural diplomacy not because of the movies itself but from the overall project activities of the EoS.
