Abstract

In Indonesia, the number of plastic wastes has reached 66 million tons per year in which 50% of them come from plastic packaging waste. Meanwhile, the recycling of plastic packaging waste only reaches 14%. Hence, it is highly urgent to be aware of plastic packaging waste management in order to tackle this issue. The research discussed the capability and potential of applying digitalization and automation to Smart Retail Technology which focuses on filling machines to manage plastic packaging waste management and increase the competitive advantage. This research uses two main approaches, namely Business Process Reengineering and Agile Project Management to recommend a new business process on ongoing project. The result of the study suggests the urgency to take advantage of the QR Code and Human Machine Interface to maximize the effectiveness and results of implementing the business process. By using simulation, this effort is expected to reach up to 334 consumers each day with up to 42.14% of machine utilization.

Abstract

ADC Company is a global company which operates in the Middle East that has been running to supply the downstream users with its product such as Ethylene, Polyethylene and Polypropylene. The current performance and objectives show that we need to take a look at something that can be done possibly and take the initiative that can be improving the company’s performance, especially in this kind of situation. The current setup of Maintenance Repair and Operations or MRO of this company, has shown the value that this company has 43% Non-Moving Spare Part (PNM-SP) Material value that is excessive and has turned into a particular issue for the Company. However, there is an opportunity for the company to make more effective inventory through the inventory policy strategy and improvement. The higher the inventory value and the remaining items/materials that cannot be utilized, then the worse the inventory performance reflects. Therefore, the business problem could be identified and further transformed into a problem statement as Significant Potential Non-Moving Spare Part (PNM-SP) Materials all across the years have resulted in the inefficiency of Operational Expenditures (OPEX) which costs the company with unused/ never used bought materials associated with handling and maintaining cost produced by those (PNM-SP) materials. The objectives of this research are overcome or reduce the volume of Potential Non-Moving Spare parts (PNM-SP) Materials in our organization, and What tactics or alternative solutions exist to avoid massive Potential Non-Moving Spare parts (PNM-SP) Materials, along with the precautions that should be taken in the event happens in the future, by using Kepner Tregoe Analysis and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). In this scenario, we will be utilizing some feedbacks from our references along with their major result.

Abstract

In the reality of life, learning requires a process of remembering. In the process of teaching and learning, memory is crucial. Sleep deprivation affects the process of remembering in learning. Memory is one of the important aspects that affect student performance in learning. In addition to sleep duration, the age factor can also affect short-term memory. This study wants to find out if age, sleep duration, and learning duration have an impact on short-term memory. This study incorporates elements of cognitive ergonomics because it measures short-term memory performance to assess how people process information and how they maintain it in their memory. The age variable has a significance value of 0.001. The coefficient value on the age variable is 0.303 and is positive. This positive value indicates that increasing student age will increase the value of short-term memory. This shows that the higher the age of the student, the higher the ability in short-term memory. The study participants comprised individuals in the 18-22 age group. The findings demonstrate a significant impact of age on short-term memory proficiency. Students of higher age groups have accumulated several years of academic experience and have effectively refined their ability to handle memory-intensive lectures through their senior years, thereby enhancing their short-term memory capabilities. Thus, new students should allocate additional attention to enhancing their short-term memory skills. Furthermore, the study reveals that students who consume coffee exhibit notably elevated levels of short-term memory, underscoring the considerable impact of coffee consumption in enhancing this cognitive skill among students.

Abstract

A company engaged in the garment industry is facing problems that inhibit the production process. These problems comprise an excess of product defects beyond the specified limits, a considerable rate of product returns, delays in product shipment, and disorderly arrangements in storing raw material. This study aims to determine the root causes of problems and provide recommendations for improvement using the concept of lean six sigma. The waste assessment model is used to identify the dominant waste, while the value stream analysis tools is a method used to analyze the causes of the dominant waste. From the research results, four dominant wastes are identified, namely waste defects, unnecessary inventory, waiting and unnecessary motion, with percentages of 27.02%, 15.92%, 14.32% and 14.0% respectively. The results of the analysis using mapping tools show the details of waste in each dominant waste. Proposed recommendations for improvement are made using the failure mode and effect analysis based on the highest risk priority number for each dominant waste. The recommendations proposed by the researchers include implementing a standard operating procedure and work instruction for the sewing process; scheduling machine maintenance using reliability centered maintenance II; planning and scheduling materials using material requirement planning; implementing line balancing; and designing name tags, visual displays, and storage rack layout.

Abstract

A good work environment will increase job satisfaction, morale, and employee performance. The company has 5 production stations, namely Printing and Can Making, Blow Moulding, Shortening and Margarine, Filling, and the last is Finished Product Store. Based on observations at the Printing and Can Making, Blow Moulding, Shortening and Margarine, Filling, and Finished Product Store stations, there are unclean and untidy conditions at the Blow Moulding station. Fishbone diagrams are also used to determine the root causes of work environment problems. The cause of the Blow Moulding station being unclean and untidy is the human factor and the method applied. Based on the problems obtained  the 5S method is used to arrangement and maintenance of the workplace which was developed through intensive efforts in the work environment of the blow moulding station. When everything has its place and there is the right position, then the 5S program will serve to provide a clear picture of a good workplace.

Abstract

This paper shows a management model for a queuing system operating two shifts and where client reneging is present. The model provides the optimal active server policy considering lost clients and cost. Using influence diagrams and decision trees, the proposed model implements a Bayesian scheme to update the initial knowledge in response to the observed number of lost customers in the first shift. In addition, a utility function is used to represent the preferences of the decision-maker and simulation to determine the consequences and probabilities of the trees. The results are displayed as the number of active servers recommended for each shift, according to the preferences of the decision-maker and the clients lost in the first shift. For the case study, it is found that if the weight for the number of lost clients in the utility function (kNL) is less than 0.63, a single server should be used in both shifts, while when kNL is greater than said value, the first shift opens one server, while a second one is activated for the next shift depending on the number of lost clients in the first shift.

Abstract

The worker’s recovery time from physical and mental workload is a crucial factor for office and factory management and it will effect on the working performance and design working system. The aim of this paper is to investigate the impact of physiological conditions on sleep quality and time to recovery for night shift electric steam power plant workers. The research is started with study literatures on physiology ergonomics, sleep quality measurement, human metabolism, expenditure energy graph and physical/mental workload. The research worked with 50 samples (age between 30 to 45 years old) who have duty to control the electric steam power plant on dynamic computer screen in the night shift. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire was used subjectively to measure the value of sleep quality on 19 self – rated questions that assessed various sleep quality – related factor over the previous month. To know the speed of Time to Recovery (TTR), every worker perform a treadmill load with constant speed of 5 Km/hour for 10 minutes. Heart rate changes before activity, during activity (treatment) and TTR are recorded and it be analysed the pattern of relationship conducting to PSQI score. According to the data analysis, the higher PSQI score the longer time consume by workers to recovery. Moreover, Pearson statistic test results found that there is a strong relationship between sleep quality (PSQI value) and TTR for workers with value of 0.853. In sort, improving the quality of sleep for night shift electric steam power plant workers can definitely improve work performance on a shorter rest time or healthier conditions of workers.
