Abstract

Background: Noise is one of the most often encountered stressor to human being. Aircraft noise is considered to be the most annoying transportation noise, due to its noise level and intermittent nature. Noise will interfere with the working of the brain, especially in its endocrine regulation. It is estimated that in 2020 depression will be the problem and will be the second global burden after ischemic heart disease. The most common cause of depression is dysregulation of Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis. The aim of this research is to compare depression case incidence on Adi Sumarmo Boyolali airport employees between apron and non-apron region employees. Methods: This research is an analytical cross-sectional study, conducted in Adi Sumarmo Airport Boyolali. The research was conducted in November 2014. The independent variable was workplace noise that divided into 2: apron area (81.3 WECPNL noise level) and non-apron area (64.14 WECPNL noise level). While the dependent variable was depression measured by Beck Depression Inventory II questionnaire. Samples were Adi Sumarmo Airport Boyolali employees with at least a year of the working time, no having psychiatric disorders, no having both chronic dieases and congenital diseases, no having hearing loss, no wearing ear model of personal protective equipment, no experiencing death of sib in last 3 months, LMMPI score with “no” answers < 10, and were willing to be respondents and approved informed consent. Total of 86 samples were obtained by consecutive sampling after selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. It divided into 2 groups. Each consists of 43 employees. The data were analyzed by chi-square test. Result: The prevalence of depression was 46.5% in the apron area and 20.9% in the non-apron area. Chi-square test showed that there was a statistically significant difference in depression score among two groups (p = 0.012; p<0.05). Conclusion: There was significant difference of depression case incidence on Adi Sumarmo Boyolali Airport employees between apron and non-apron employees. Keywords: Adi Sumarmo Airport, aircraft, depression, noise.

Abstract

Background: Prevalence of malnutrition increase in past few years. Sixty six million under-five years old children around the world died in 2012 and 45% of them died due to malnutrition. The prevalence of under-five years old children who has suffered undernutrition is still increasing over 2007-2013. Undernutrition can be caused by imbalance of the intake, economical crisis, parents’ lack of knowledge, parents’ economical status (occupation and income), lack of healthcare services,  and infection among children that caused by viruses and bacteries. This study is aimed to measure the relationship between level of parents’ income and nutritional status of under-five years old children in Punggawan Village, Banjarsari Districts, Surakarta. Methods: A cross sectional, observational study was conducted. This study was located in Punggawan Village, Banjarsari Districts, Surakarta from March 2014 until January 2015. The data was collected from October until November 2014 time period using questionaire and direct measurement of children’s weight and height. Sample of this study were under-five years old children in Punggawan Village, Banjarsari Districts, Surakarta. Their nutritional status were defined by several anthropometry indices such as weight for age, height for age, weight for height, and Body Mass Index for age. The parents’ income was defined by their total income in rupiah (Rp). Data was analyzed by logistic regression doubling amount and Chi Square. Results: The result of bivariate logistic regression showed value of OR = 1.00 for correlation between level of parent’s income and indices of weight for age, height for age, weight for height, and Body Mass Index for age. This result showed that nutritional status was not associated with level of parent’s income. Conclusion: There is no relation between level of parent’s income and nutritional status of under-five years old children in Punggawan Village, Banjarsari Districts, Surakarta. Abstract

Background: Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death in the world. One of the most common cardiovascular disease is myocardial infarction. In developing countries such as Indonesia, smoking is a risk factor that greatly affects on myocardial infarction disease. Many factors such as the duration of smoking, the number of cigarette consumption and the degree of smoking are thought to be related to the prevalence of myocardial infarction. The aim of this research was to determine the association between degree of smoking and myocardial infarction prevalence. Methods: The study is analytical observation by using cross sectional design. The subjects were patients who came to cardiovascular clinic and inpatients in cardiovascular unit of Dr. Moewardi Hospital Surakarta. The subjects were selected by purposive sampling method. The independent variable is degree of smoking that was obtained by interview and questionnaire and the dependent variable is the myocardial infarction status that was obtained by medical record of the subjects. Data were analyzed using chi-square test with p value = 0.05. Results: The total number of patients with history of myocardial infarction were 22 (50%) whereas patients without history of myocardial infarction were 22 (50%). The number of subjects with light smoking status were 18 (40.9%), moderate smoking status were 15 (34.1%) and heavy smoking status were 11 (25%). Chi-square test on the degree of smoking and the prevalence of myocardial infarction showed that the odds ratio between heavy smoking status and light smoking status was 26 and odds ratio between heavy smoking status and moderate smoking status was 11.43 whereas p value was 0.004 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: It can be concluded that there is difference in myocardial infarction prevalence between heavy, moderate and light smoking status patients in Dr. Moewardi Hospital Surakarta. Lack of sleep is one of big problem faced by the modern society nowadays. In the big city like Jakarta, most of the adolescents have sleep disorder. This research intents to prove correlation between sleep quality and working memory capacity on student of Senior High School. Methods: This research was a cross-sectional analytic observational. The population sample was students in the 10th grade of 4 Surakarta Senior High School. By using purposive sampling method, the total restricted samples were 66 students. The instruments were Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, which is used to check the sleep quality scores, and Reading Span Test, to check the working memory capacity. Data was analyzed by Spearman Correlation test. Results: The respondents were 66 students, 33 students (50%) with bad sleep quality, 33 (50%) others were students with good sleep quality. The result showed high positive and  significant correlation between sleep quality and working memory capacity (r = 0.814 and P = 0.000). Conclusions: There is high positive and significant statistic correlation between sleep quality and working memory capacity on students of senior high school. Abstract

Background: The prevalence of passive smokers tends to increase along with the  prevalence of active smokers. Most of university students are passive smokers, who get the exposure in home and social environment. The exposure of cigarette smoking can harm human health, especially for cardiovascular and respiratory system. VO2max is the best parameter to measure human cardiorespiratory ability. This research aimed to analyze the relationship between exposure level in passive smokers with maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max) in adolescents aged 19-24 years old. Methods: This was an observational analytic study with cross-sectional design. The research was conducted in Mei 2015. Using the consecutive sampling, we selected 72 passive smokers aged 19-24 years old, Sebelas Maret University students, who classified into medium and high exposure level. The data were collected by using questionnaire and interview. VO2max was measure with Mc Ardle Step Test method. The data was analyzed with Chi Square test. Results: The results showed that passive smokers were mostly women. Most of sample had good VO2max, which were 37.5% in medium exposure level and 23.6% in high exposure level. The sample with average VO2max were 8.3% in medium exposure level and 15.3% in high exposure level. The sample with low VO2max were 11.1% in medium exposure level and 4.2 % in high exposure level. Chi Square test result showed p = 0.095. Conclusions: There is no statistically significant relationship between exposure level in passive smokers with maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max) on adolescents aged 19-24 years old. Keywords: Passive Smokers, VO2max.
