Abstract

Islamic scholars have built the method of hadith criticism since the early times to determine the validity of a hadith. Similarly, the West has for long developed its own methods in contrast to hadith criticism by the Muslim scholars. Both methods built by the Muslims and the West have been widely accepted by the respective societies and have been used for academic interests. However, both methods are not free of criticism from the scholars. Some Muslim scholars have doubted the efficacy of the Muslim's criticism method of hadith. Similarly, in the West, some scholars also doubt the efficacy of hadith criticism by the Western methods. One of the criticisms came from Kamaruddin Amin, who criticized both the Muslim and Western methods. Kamaruddin Amin criticized by presenting a relatively new method. He attempted to apply the isnad cum matn method in his work Reassess the Accuracy of Hadith Criticism Methodology. He claimed that the analysis of the isnad cum matn had reached better results compared to other dating methods. However, there should be both appreciation and criticism of this method. This is the main concern of this article.

Abstract

Abstract: This study examines the teungku dayah and panoptic power. It explores two   main questions that firstly what serves as the basic for the Acehnese society obedience towards the teungku dayah? What power model that the tengku dayah apply so the people  total obedience is honestly expressed whether in front and behind them. Theoretically,  this study refers to power relation and hermeneutic theory that are introduced by Michel  Foucault. The data of this study are collected through observation, in-depth interview and  text studies. By closely study some dayahs (traditional Islamic boarding school) in north  Aceh district, this study finds that teungku dayah could be determinant figure in  Acehnese society. It is because not only they are religiously knowledgeable persons that  are justified by religious norms, it is also influenced by three other resources: sacred  (keuramat), blessed (beureukat) and accursed (temeureuka). As the sacred figure,  Acehnese believe that teungku dayah could mediate God’s blessings to them. Against or  defy to them could cause accurses. The belief of being accursed if one is defiant toward  the Tengku, grants the total obedience toward the Tengku. These three concepts are  crafted in people minds, hearts, and emotion so as if they are always being watched by  the teungku any time and any place. Perhaps Cross Circuit Television (CCTV) best  represents this condition in latest surveillance technology. Thus, these sources grant  teungku dayah the panoptical power that is nonviolent, persuasive, absent, remote, total  and comprehensive.Abstrak: Studi ini mengkaji tentang teungku dayah dan kekuasaan panoptik. Pertanyaan  utama yang dikupas adalah apa yang mendasari lahirnya kepatuhan total masyarakat  Aceh terhadap teungku dayah dan model kekuasaan seperti apa yang dimiliki oleh  teungku dayah sehingga kepatuhan masyarakat terhadap mereka tidak hanya berlaku di  depan tetapi juga di belakang. Proses kajian dilakukan dengan menggunakan perspektif  teoritik kekuasaan Michele Faucault dan metode hermenutik. Maka pelbagai data yang  digali melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam dan studi dokumen diperlakukan sebagai  teks sosial. Lalu, pelbagai data tersebut ditafsirkan melalui teknik tafsir lingkaran  hermeneutik. Penelitian yang dilakukan di beberapa dayah di Aceh Utara ini menemukan  bahwa kekuasaan teungku dayah terhadap masyarakat Aceh selain didasari oleh  penguasaan ilmu agama dan justifikasi normatifitas agama juga dipengaruhi oleh 3 (tiga)  sumberdaya lainnya yaitu keuramat (karamah), beureukat(barakah) dan temeureuka (kualat).. Maka kekuasaan teungku dayah terhadap masyarakat Aceh bersifat panoptik  yaitu tanpa kekerasan fisik, tanpa paksaan, tanpa kehadiran, jarak jauh, total dan  menyeluruh.

Abstract

From the beginning of Islam, hadith maudhu 'or false hadith is a very crucial issue. Prophet Muhammad  SAW reminded his Companions through his Hadith "whoever lies on me, be prepared to occupy a place in hell". Nevertheless, the flow of maudhu' hadith never stops. This indication one of them can be seen in the increasingly widespread spreading of false hadith, until today. On the other hand, it can also be seen from the side of the eradication effort, which never stopped by the ulama in various regions. This study conducted in the form of field research, taking a relatively small location, in one kecamatan. The sample 5 villages in Peureulak sub-district, East Aceh district. The respondents of this study are the Mubalighs who considered to know the hadith maudhu', and also know the development of the spread of hadith maudhu' in society. The results of this study include, among others, efforts made by the ulama in Peureulak Sub-district in order to anticipate the spread of hadith maudhu 'among others: to conduct counseling and special study on the science of Hadith, in which alluded to the hadith maudhu'; in addition the scholars also provide direction and reprimand to the preachers who make hadith maudhu' as a reference when they do da'wah in society. Abstrak: Sejak awal Islam, hadist maudhu’ atau hadist palsu merupakan persoalan yang sangat krusial. Nabi Muhammad  SAW. sendiri, sudah mengingatkan para shahabat Beliau melalui hadist Beliau “barang siapa yang berdusta atas nama diriku maka bersiaplah untuk menempati suatu tempat di neraka kelak”. Namun demikian, arus perkembangan hadist maudhu’ ternyata tidak pernah berhenti. Indikasi ini salah satunya dapat dilihat pada faktor semakin maraknya penyebaran hadist palsu, sampai dewasa ini. Di sisi lain, juga dapat dilihat dari sisi upaya pembasmiannya, yang tidak pula pernah henti-hentinya dilakukan oleh ulama di berbagai wilayah. Studi ini dilakukan dalam bentuk penelitian lapangan, dengan mengambil lokasi tergolong kecil, yaitu satu kecamatan. Sampelnya adalah 5 desa dalam kecamatan Peureulak Kabupaten Aceh Timur. Responden studi ini adalah para Mubaligh yang dianggap memiliki pengetahuan tentang hadist maudhu’, dan juga mengetahui perkembangan tersebarnya hadist maudhu’ tersebut dalam masyarakat. Hasil penelitian ini antara lain, upaya yang telah dilakukan oleh para ulama di Kecamatan Peureulak dalam rangka mengantisipasi penyebaran hadist maudhu’ antara lain: melakukan penyuluhan dan pengajian khusus tentang Ilmu Hadist, yang di dalamnya disinggung tentang hadist maudhu’; di samping itu para ulama juga memberikan arahan dan teguran kepada para mubaligh yang menjadikan hadist maudhu’ sebagai rujukan ketika mereka melakukan berdakwah dalam masyarakat.

Abstract

Issues around gender equality framed in feminism movement is one of discourses that attracts attention of muslim scholars recently. The gender mainstreaming is backgrounded by the reality that women are viewed as a second class. It is likely due to the domain of religious interpretation tends to side with patriarchal. As a response, some scholars try recall the balance thoughts in order that women may be placed to their nature position. Nurchalis Madjid one of those who took part in the discourse and gave very substantial thought on the issue. He opines that Islam is a religion that emphasize justice and equality among mankind, which equalitybetween sexes is included in. There is only god-fearing gauges one’s glory at side of Allah. It is owing to the fact that god-fearing is an achievement that can be possibly reached by all mankind without any exception. glory obtained is based on one’s achievement.

Abstract

The Quran interpretation is always developing and shifting, from tafsir bil riwayat to the tafsir bil ra'yu. This shift and development cannot be separated from the search for meaning that the readers of the text (Quran) do which later gave birth to the interpretation epistemology. The birth of this interpretation epistemology results from human (reader - creatures of thought) interaction with the Qur'an. This paper aims to discuss the relation between philosophy and the Quran in constructing the epistemological discourse of interpretation as an important discourse in the development of interpretation. This paper seeks to find the answer to how the epistemology of interpretation occurred. To answer this question, this paper will describe and analyse the potential of human thinking and the Quran in the form of a text (mushaf). This paper departs from the assumption that philosophy as the product of thought becomes a distinct path for humans to communicate the silent texts with changing contexts. From the analysis of various explanations, this paper finally concludes that there are several aspects that led to the birth of the epistemology of interpretation. The Quran as kalamullah is sacred and transmitted from oral to written, so that it is open to public and free to be interpreted. In addition, background influence such as pre-understanding of the interpreter, methods and approaches used in the interpretation of the Quran contributes to the birth of the interpretation epistemology.Abstrak:Fenomena penafsiran al-Qur’an senantiasa mengalami perkembangan dan pergeseran sekaligus, dari tafsir bil riwayat menjadi tafsir bil ra’yu, dan seterusnya. Fenomena pergeseran dan perkembangan tafsir ini tidak bisa dilepaskan dari pencarian makna yang dilakukan oleh pembaca teks (al-Qur’an), yang kemudian melahirkan epistemologi tafsir. Kelahiran epistemologi tafsir ini tercipta dari manusia (reader –makhluk berfikir) dengan al-Qur’an. Tulisan ini hendak mendiskusikan relasi filsafat dengan alQur’an dalam memunculkan wacana epistemologi tafsir sebagai wacana penting dalam pengembangan dunia penafsiran. Pertanyaan yang hendak dijawab dalam tulisan ini adalah bagaimana epistemologi tafsir itu terjadi? Untuk menjawab pertanyaan ini, tulisan ini akan mendiskripsikan sekaligus menganalisis potensi berfikir manusia, serta al-Qur’an dalam bentuk teks (mushaf). Tulisan ini berangkat dari asumsi bahwa filsafat sebagai kerja berfikir menjadi jalan tersendiri bagi manusia dalam mendialogkan teks yang diam, dengan konteks yang berubah-ubah. Dari berbagai penjelasan, akhirnya tulisan ini menyimpulkan bahwa ada beberapa aspek yang menyebabkan lahirnya epistemologi tafsir, yakni al-Qur’an sebagai Kalamullah yang disakralkan bertransmisi dari lisan ke tulisan, sehingga bersifat open publik—bebas ditafsirkan. Selain itu, pengaruh latar belakang (pra-pemahaman) penafsir, metode, serta pendekatan yang digunakan penafsiran al-Qur’an, semua aspek ini melahirkan epistemologi tafsir.

Abstract

The ideas of rational theology and dogmatic theology are closely related to the concept of taqlid and ijtihad in the development of Islamic theological thought. Even, both theologies have caused serious debates among Islamic thinkers and mutakallim from time to time. In this relation, two different ideas arise; some say the door of ijtihad is closed for everything; in addition, there is also a view that the door of ijtihad only closed in relation to theological belief, and still open for muamalah problem, and law related to humanity problem. The question that arises in this connection is "why the previous theological problem as a result of political disputes becomes a dogma of justification and is seen getting a serious attention even to threaten the dispute between people and even between schools and schools. Furthermore, the ruler also uses certain schools to reinforce their power and position in politics. Theology, therefore, serves as the object of creating to the dogma and not dialectical knowledge. In fact, the easy answer is the logic of theology or aqidah is the justification of belief and belief itself does not open the opportunity for dialogue for the different schools and streams of aqidah it embraces. Theology, however, as a science cannot be separated from the various interpretations and understandings derived from a dhanni and relative and can not be separated from the various doubts and prejudices that can not be separated from the various possibilities of understanding.

Abstract

Mahmud Muhammad Thaha, a Sudanist Islamic thinker, tries to issue a  new Islamic perspective on Islamic law. According to him, Islam has two main  periods; Mecca period (610-622M.) and Medina period (623-632M). The former,  called al-risalah al-ula and the latter, called al-risalah al-thaniyah. The nuances  of al-risalah al-ula it is universal, substantive, protective the all mankind, equal  and democratic. Whereas al-risalah al-thaniyah it becomes “established Islam”  and protected the internal ummah with locally and temporarily additional rules.  Some additional rules are not derived from the original sources of Islam, the  Qur’an and hadith. Therefore, according to Thaha, Islamic law needs to be  reformed in order to adjust it to the demands of modern time so that Islamic law  play sicnificant role in the formation of humanist and democratic world.

Abstract

This papers describes a very general view on Tauhid in the Islamic  mystical thought. The ulama from the Sufis group, like other group of ulama,  intends to purify the Oneness concept of Allah. That is how such course becomes  a very serious theme in their discussion. Some of the thoughts somehow  contradict with their own expression and explanation, however they go to the  same conclusion about Allah in relation with the unity of existence. Their  discussion is around the truth of creator and the creation. This papers aims to  discuss the Sufis thought in order the complexity could become clearer and the  thought can be easily understood.

Abstract

li Hasjmy viewed that Pancasila’s tenets are inherent and in accordance with a state foundation that are required by Islam. However, regarding state’s constitution he consistently argued that Qur’an is the only one that serves the basic foundation orconstitution of state. Means that Qur’an must be the main guide for all Muslims whether it is for their personal life or for communal life within a state. It could be said that he does not tolerate the separation between religion and state. All state’s regulation and constitution have to be referred to Qur’an and Prophet’s Tradition, although a state does not proclaim itself as an Islamic State. Here, the main key relies on the implementation ofQur’an’s tenets and Prophet’s Tradition. when both principles are implemented, a state will be automatically called as an Islamic State.

Abstract

The perspective of religion by placing religion as a source of conflict has led to  various attempts to reinterpret and then find common ground at a certain level with the  hope to reduce conflicts among religious communities if there is mutual tolerance. On the  exoteric level, religions are different, but on the esoteric level, religions are not similar. All  religions are viewed as equally valid paths to God. However, in many ways, the reality  shows that the tension between the religious communities is closely related to factors that  are beyond the scope of religion. This is an important matter for all religious believers to  keep the peace among them.
