Abstract

Abstract: Reason has a major role in human life, without reason human is useless. They cannot think and plan anything. With reason human can move, work and plan an organized and measurable life. Muhammad Arkoun recognizes that Islam has developed into the diversity world and needs methods of Islamic interpretation to avoid chaos. This study focuses on the function of reason in the theory of Muhammad Arkoun whose perception was built based on the Islamic view. It is necessary to learn his thoughts so that real Islamic teaching can be disclosed. One of his important views on reason is that the main function of reason is to understand human limitations and human has to obey Allah on divine matters.Abstrak: Nalar mempunyai peran yang besar dalam kehidupan manusia, tanpa nalar manusia tidak berguna, tidak bisa berfikir dan tidak bisa merencanakan sesuatu. Dengan adanya nalar manusia bisa beraktivitas, berkarya dan bekerja untuk menata hidup secara terearah dan terukur. Muhammad Arkoun mengakui Islam yang berkembang ke seluruh dunia dengan pluralitas suku bangsa membutuhkan metode dan penafsiran tentang Islam untuk terhindar dari kekacauan.Tulisan ini difokuskan pada studi tentang fungsi nalar dalam teori Muhammad Arkoun. Tentu saja, persepsinya dibangun berdasarkan pandangan Islam. Studi tentangnya dirasa perlu untuk direfleksikan kembali sehingga memberi gambaran yang jelas terhadap ajaran Islam yang sebenarnya. Salah satu pandangan pentingnya tentang fungsi nalar adalah bahwa fungsi utama nalar dimaksudkan untuk mampu memahami keterbatasan-keterbatasan yang ada pada dirinya dengan menyadari bahwa manusia harus tunduk kepada Allah dan hal yang menyangkut tentang Tuhan

Abstract

In the sociological perspective, religion is not only doctrinal-ideology and abstract but also appears in the forms of materials in everyday life. Anthropologists and sociologist, for example, argue that the human phases from the Stone, Copper, and Bronze to the Iron Age where humans gathered food by hunting, farming, and industrialization influence their interpretation of religion. In the hunting period, they feared and trembled when seeing towering trees, large rocks, high and steep cliffs, and floods. Such fear and shock feelings caused dependency and in turn led them to plead for help by worshiping them. This article focuses on the sociological views of the definition, origin, and aspects of religion. Religion is understood as a social phenomenon embraced by a society and is viewed as a part of a culture. Religion and religious life are integral elements of the human life and cultural systems. Religion and religious behaviors grow and develop from the sense of human dependence on the supernatural power which they believe as the source of life. Thus, in the sociological perspective, there are some very important aspects in practicing the religion i.e., religious belief, religious ritual, religious experience, and religious community.

Abstract

In this globalization era, the term of democracy has been part of political  culture in Muslim society, which unintentionally hindered the term of syura as  Muslim political reference. In fact, that democracy and syura are two different  concepts in Islamic discourses. The concept of democracy, which is understood,  developed and introduced by West to Muslim, is not very applicable in Muslim  world. It is because the whole concept of western democracy unlikely relevant with  Quran and Prophet Tradition. Western democracy, for instance, positions people as  the owner of the highest sovereignty. It means that whatever the people’s words, they  will be treated as a truth, although they might be wrong. While syura, as Muslim  political reference, perceives Allah as the owner of the highest sovereignty.  Humankind is commanded to apply the concept. If Muslims are going to apply any political will, they must firstly consult to the Quran and Sunnah whether the will is  applicable or not.Abstrak: Kata demokrasi di era globalisasi dewasa ini sudah membudaya dan  dipraktekkan dalam kehidupan masyarakat muslim, sehingga kata syura yang  merupakan acuan umat Islam dalam menjalankan kehidupan dalam masyarakat  hampir dilupakan. Padahal antara demokrasi dan syura terdapat perbedaan dalam  kajian Islam. Demokrasi yang dipahami dan dikembangkan oleh dunia barat kepada  dunia Islam tidak semuanya dapat diterima dan diterapkan di dunia Islam, karena  banyak hal yang terkadang tidak sesuai dengan ketentuan-ketentuan yang telah  digariskan dalam al-Qur’an dan Sunnah Rasulullah Saw. Misalnya kalau demokrasi  yang dipahami barat kedaulatan tertinggi berada di tangan rakyat, apa yang dikatakan  oleh rakyat itulah yang benar walaupun terkadang hal tersebut tidak benar. Sedangkan  dalam Islam, kedaulatan tertinggi berada di tangan Allah Swt, manusia hanya  diberikan amanah untuk melaksanakannya saja. Bila ada hal-hal yang ingin  dilakukan, maka harus dikembalikan kepada al-Qur’an dan Sunnah untuk mengetahui  ketentuan apakah boleh dilaksanakan ataupun tidak.

Abstract

Intellect as perception never falls to be perceived mind without losing a large part of its substantial real during the perception. Intellect in itself has potential to evade from any attempt to perceive things objectively. Its ability to comprehensively explain subject is illogical because human’ capacity determines discourses that reveal rejection to it such as science, which is making attempt to deeply penetrate the field of religious and theological discourses. When human could not understand the intellect in them, so how could human understand the higher state than human consciousness in the hierarchy of existence? Being in the highest state, God undeservedly goes down to the realm of human knowledge. In the other words, God understands human, but human could not expect to understand God. At the same time, in the middle of the faith wave, human acknowledge that God is an indefinite mystery and is not reality that human intellect could perceive and understand. Abstract

This qualitative research discusses generally the development of Islamic political thoughts from classical period to the beginning of twentieth centuries. By describing various mainstreams in the political thoughts, the author argues that Islam does not offer a very specific political system, but it respects and and is adaptable to any system since it does not oppose the tenet of the religion.

Abstract

This article aims to explore the role of adat in solving women's and children's issues. During this time, Adat often viewed as a source of doom for women and children. Indigenous peoples who are influenced by the interpretation of Islamic teachings that misogamist often positions women and children under the control of male power. The article seeks to find answers on whether Adat can contribute otherwise, improve the state of women and Adat? By observing ethnographic Adat developments in central Aceh District and Bener Meriah, this article offers the opposite view. That as part of solving women's and children's issues, Adat should not be taken captive but should be approached, influenced, and used to improve the state of women and children.  Abstrak: Artikel ini berupaya mengekplorasi tentang peran adat dalam penyelesaian masalah perempuan dan anak. Selama ini adat sering sekali dipandang sebagai sumber malapetaka bagi perempuan dan anak. Adat yang patriakis dan dipengaruhi oleh penafsiran ajaran Islam yang misogamist kerap memposisikan perempuan dan anak di bawah control kuasa laki-laki. Artikel berusaha mencari jawaban apakah adat dapat berkontribusi sebaliknya, memperbaiki keadaan perempuan dan adat? Dengan mengamati perkembangan adat secara etnografis di Kabupaten Aceh Tengah dan Bener Meriah, artikel ini menawarkan pandangan sebaliknya. Dia menawarkan bahwa sebagai bagian penyelesaian masalah perempuan dan anak, adat seharusnya tidak dilawan, tapi harus didekati, dipengaruhi, dan digunakan untuk memperbaiki keadaan perempuan dan anak.

Abstract

The advancement of human science can create various forms of technology. For example, creating an airplane and making bombs that initially aims to facilitate human work, but then these objects are used also for negative purposes which cause disaster for humans themselves. From this phenomenon then science must be put proportionally and side with the values of goodness and humanity in order to prevent disaster and catastrophe.

Abstract

It is said hadis musykil (dubious hadith) due to two main factors; difficulty  in understanding its content and its contradictory to the other hadiths or the  Qur’an. This kind of hadith has no problem with its sanad (narrators) to regard it  as valid hadith, sahih hadith. For this reason, the muhaddithin ulamas make  serious efforts to understand this kind of hadith. They also set theories and  methods to solve problems related to musykil hadith. Their efforts now become  one branch of ulum al-hadith so called al-`ilm musykil al-hadith.

Abstract

asically human being poses intelligence as a device to think in order to  achieve their purposes in life whether personal, group, or communal purposes. To  think without a depth and serious process is known as “ logical naturalist”. It  means that one thinks in a very simple and natural ways. When intelligence  contemplates a complex problem, it is called “logical artificial” that uses tight  logical procedure and logical science or is known in Islam as “Mantiq”. One of  fundamental differentiation between human being from animal is that the ratio  potential (natiq). The ratio activities on the subject, understanding written or  spoken word (lafaz), defining, proposing, opposing, sampling or analogy, forming  and syllogism result to a true and precise conclusion.

Abstract

The founding of Indonesia higher Islamic education (PTAI) isaimed to develop Islamic studies discourses and create intellectualulama and religious scientists. But, in the PTAI development as the frontline educational media for Islamic studies needs to make contact and dialog with other knowledge. Dichotomy between secular (non religious oriented knowledge) and religious oriented knowledge causes PTAI confined to develop its studies. That is also the tendency in the present time, in which Islamic studies seems to be irrelevant to modern life. This short article explains about the IAIN conversion process to UIN as integrating efforts of religious studies to that of secular knowledge which are based on the paradigm of hree knowledge: ontology, epistemology, and axiology/pragmatism. By applying these three paradigms all together, IAIN can ease the way to alleviate its status from IAIN to UIN. Integrating knowledge cannot be done by ignoring the paradigms. Because, a iscourse will remain secular if it is not based on ontological perspective or firm and complete world view or Tauhid (the Oneness principle). Also, an epistemology of knowledge will remain exploitative and abusive if it is not based on Islamic ontology. One should  otice that the disintegrated construction of knowledge would be useless in the hand of immoral scholars. To do so, while doing conversion, axiological part should be constructed
