Abstract

This study aimed to determine the form or type of dilemma experienced by fresh rose farmers in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. This study was conducted in Gunungsari Village, Bumiaji Sub-District, Batu, the largest fresh flower cultivation center in East Java. This study used a qualitative research approach with a case study design to utilize James C. Scott’s theory of survival mechanisms in its analysis. The results showed that there were three types of dilemmas experienced by fresh flower farmers, namely (1) the dilemma of converting the type of work, (2) the dilemma of conversion of plant commodity types, and (3) the dilemma of the continuity of fresh flower farming. Although farmers essentially take action to minimize risk, as stated by Scott, there are differences in the causative factors because this study was conducted when a non-natural disaster of the COVID-19 pandemic occurred, which no one could predict when it would end. Keywords: dilemma, farmers, fresh flower farmers, survival mechanism, COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract

The widespread distribution of non-consensual intimate content carried out by the increasing development of technology cannot be stopped. Komnas Perempuan recorded 281 cases of cybercrime out of 1,277 cases of gender-based violence reported in 2021, which experienced an increase in CATAHU Komnas Perempuan 2023, where there were 869 cases of cyberviolence out of 1,276 cases of gender-based violence. Technological developments can make it easier for someone to commit cyber crimes. On the other hand, this technological development influences the rapid dissemination of information, especially with the mass presence of influencers. Influencers are social media users who generally come from ordinary people who have succeeded in gathering large numbers of followers so they can monetize their influence. However, influencers also have dangerous risks, in which one of them is vulnerable to becoming a victim of NCII with how often they use social media to show their face, body, and even voice. Non-consensual dissemination of intimate images (NCII) is a cybercrime where the use of intimate or sexual content for threats. This research aims to analyze the resilience of female influencers who have experienced NCII threats. This research used the qualitative method. The data used interviews with influencers who have experienced NCII but choose to continue their career. The results show that the subject’s resilience came from external support from family and peers, revenge for the perpetrator, and religiosity. Legal action and official protection against the threat of NCII are necessary to prevent the increase in victims. Keywords: dynamics of resilience, cybercrime, female influencer, NCII

Abstract

This research aims to explore the experience of women by Batang Masumai river to slow violence. Limited access to water services and infrastructure in rural area affect women who bear the responsibility to meet household water need because they depend on the river as water source and sanitation facilities. Climate change as a form of slow violence that occurred gradual and attritional becomes a major threat to household water security. The method of this qualitative research is interpretative phenomenological analysis. The data is collected through an in-depth interview with four women from low-income households by Batang Masumai river and observation. The result of this reseacrh shows that floods and droughts that become more severe contribute to water availability, accessabiliy, and quality so that women by Batang Masumai river have to walk longer distances to meet clean household water, carry heavy burden load while also exposed to water conflicts in water points. As slow violence becomes more destructive in a long period of time, there is a need for government to fully implement Law 17/2019 regarding Water Resources to help women with limted sources to adapt and build their resiliency.
