Abstract

Climate change in Sumbawa Regency has significant impacts on local ecosystems and communities, particularly through rising temperatures, shifting rainfall patterns, droughts, and increased disaster risk. These conditions affect key livelihood sectors such as agriculture, livestock, and water resources, thereby weakening household food security and economic resilience. This study aims to analyze community livelihoods from a gender perspective within the context of climate change adaptation, focusing on access, participation, control, and the benefits of resources. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach through surveys, in-depth interviews, and field observations in Kerekeh Village over a three-month period. Findings reveal that limited education, low-income levels, and dependence on primary sectors are the forms of household vulnerability. Patriarchal norms continue to shape household structures, with men often acting as primary decision-makers, while women’s roles in agricultural production and economic decision-making remain limited. However, a shift toward more collective household labor is emerging, especially through women’s involvement in livestock activities and their roles as heads of households. The analysis of natural, physical, social, and financial resources highlights gender-based disparities, with men dominating access to productive assets and employment-related information. Community awareness of climate change impacts is relatively high, especially concerning extreme weather and drought. Adaptation strategies include income diversification, savings utilization, and engagement in informal work, with gender influencing the choice and priority of these strategies. This study recommends strengthening community capacity, especially for women through education, digital literacy, accessible climate information, improved access to land and capital, and the development of gender-inclusive community-based groups to support sustainable livelihoods under climate stress.

Abstract

Pepper is one of Indonesia's primary plantation commodities, contributing significantly to global trade; however, its competitiveness continues to face challenges. An analysis of the governance structure within the pepper global value chain is essential to understand inter-actor relationship, power distribution, and decision making mechanisms that directly influence value creation and Indonesia’s position in international markets. This study aims to identify and analyze the governance structure of the pepper global value chain through a case study in Bangka Belitung Province in 2024. The study utilizes primary data collected from 63 respondents, compricing farmers, intermediary traders, and exporters. A quantitative descriptive approach based on the Global Value Chain (GVC) framework is employed, using a survey method targeting white pepper value chain actors. Value chain governance is analyzed using the GVC governance typology, which assesses transaction complecity, the degree of codification, and supplier capabilities, all measured using a Likert scale. The results indicate that the governance of the pepper value chain in Bangka Belitung is classified as relational, characterized by high transaction information complexity, low actor capacity for information codification, and strong capabilities in raw material supply. These characteristics lead to interactions among actors relying on trust-based relationships, personal influence, and informal coordination mechanisms. The policy implications emphasize the importance of institutional strengthening, quality standardization, capacity building of local actors, and the development of traceability and transparency systems. Such governance reforms are necessary for Indonesia to enhance its bargaining position, expand market access, and sustainably strengthen the competitiveness of pepper exports.

Abstract

Fruit consumption in Indonesia remains relatively low despite the continued growth of local fruit production. This condition indicates that low fruit consumption is not solely related to limited availability, but is also influenced by changing consumer preferences toward food products. This has encouraged the development of packaged fresh-cut fruit as an alternative way of consuming fruit that offers convenience and practicality, particularly for young consumers in urban areas who tend to prefer food products that are practical and easy to consume. This study aims to analyze the influence of the marketing mix and psychographic factors, including lifestyle and health consciousness, on students’ purchasing decisions regarding packaged fresh-cut fruit in modern retail. Primary data were collected from 170 undergraduate students of the Faculty of Economics and Management, IPB University, who had purchased and consumed packaged fresh-cut fruit from modern retail outlets. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), and Importance Performance Matrix Analysis (IPMA). The results show that students’ purchasing decisions are more strongly influenced by the marketing mix than by psychographic factors. The marketing mix, consisting of product, price, place, and promotion, has a positive effect on purchasing decisions, while lifestyle and health consciousness as psychographic factors have no significant effect. Modern retailers are therefore advised to prioritize affordable pricing, as it is the most important factor considered by student consumers when making purchasing decisions.
