Abstract

Agroindustry-based MSMEs are a "leading sector" in agricultural development. MSMEs play a role in enhancing human resource competitiveness, creating new business opportunities, and absorbing the workforce. The increasing coffee consumption currently drives competition in both local and international coffee industries to better understand consumer preferences. Although the majority of micro-scale black coffee agroindustries in West Sumatra are managed by women, they have sustained operations since 1958 while facing competitors. This study aims to analyze the effect of social capital on social sustainability and the effect of social capital on social sustainability through entrepreneurial orientation. Data collection was conducted using a census method involving 160 respondents from black coffee MSMEs. Data were analyzed using SmartPLS 4.0. The study found that most female entrepreneurs (90.7 percent or 145 individuals) are aged 25–64, with 57.5 percent having completed senior or vocational high school. Most have less than 10 years of work experience. Social capital positively impacts social sustainability (0.773, T-Statistic 17.438), indicating a significant relationship. Entrepreneurial orientation shows a weak, insignificant effect (0.063, T-Statistic 0.111). Social capital has a direct influences on social sustainability, while entrepreneurial orientation does not significantly mediate this relationship. Enhancing social sustainability in women-led MSMEs requires fostering social relationships and empowering women for sustainable development.

Abstract

West Sumatra is one of the shallot production centers outside Java. In recent years, the price of shallots in West Sumatra has experienced price fluctuations due to oversupply which has an impact on the efficiency of commodity distribution and price stabilization both at the producer level to consumers. Given that shallots are a strategic and high-value commodity, this study aims to analyze the marketing channel to analyze price efficiency in the marketing channel using the price transmission approach. Primary data were obtained through interviews with 100 farmers and 80 marketing institutions while secondary data were daily shallot prices from January 2019 to December 2024. Descriptive analysis was used to identify institutions and marketing channels. To analyze price transmission, the Nonlinear Autoregressive Distributed Lag (NARDL) model was used. The results of the marketing channel analysis show that there are six shallot marketing channels at the level within the province of West Sumatra and three marketing channels with destinations outside the province of West Sumatra. The price transmission analysis with the NARDL model shows that the marketing channels within the province tend to be asymmetric, both in the short and long term. Meanwhile, in channels outside the province, the price relationship between regions generally shows a more symmetrical transmission.  Therefore, it can be concluded that shallot marketing in West Sumatra Province has not been price efficient. This study recommends strengthening farmer institutions to increase bargaining power and the role of the government in providing market information systems to make marketing more efficient.

Abstract

Consumer preference for quality fruit products, including perfect physical appearance attributes, has led supermarkets to set and sell fruit with certain quality standards, such as size, color, and ripeness. Currently, some supermarkets sell fruit with physical imperfections, known as suboptimal fruit, along with increasing attention to food waste, especially that resulting from the disposal of less-than-perfect products. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence consumer’s purchase intention on suboptimal fruit in supermarkets. This study uses primary data from 200 respondents who live close to six supermarkets in Bogor City that sell suboptimal fruit. Respondents were selected using voluntary sampling method. This study used the extended Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) approach and the data were analyzed using structural equation modeling partial least square. The results showed that both TPB variables, namely attitudes, subjective norms and behavioral control and variables added to the model, namely environmental concerns, price discount promotions, and non-price promotions, had a significant effect on the purchase intention of suboptimal fruit in supermarkets. This research provides insight for supermarkets to increase purchase intention of suboptimal fruit through marketing strategies that focus on information, ease of access, product management and display arrangement, and consumer education.

Abstract

Partnership practices in Indonesia are highly diverse, encompassing various forms of support for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), including capital, capital goods, marketing, and raw materials. This diversity reflects the Intensity of partnerships, a key determinant of collaboration effectiveness. High partnership intensity is expected to strengthen competitiveness, broaden market access, and accelerate business growth. Despite these potential benefits, participation of MSEs in partnerships remains relatively limited, highlighting the need for further investigation into their dynamics. This study aims to assess the Intensity of MSE partnerships in Indonesia by examining variations in both the number of partnership types adopted and their relevance to business needs. The analysis is based on secondary data from Statistics Indonesia's 2021 Micro and Small Industry Survey, covering 6,951 business units in the food and non-food sectors. Descriptive statistical methods were applied to map the distribution of partnership intensity across industries and business scales. The results show that small enterprises, particularly in the non-food sector, tend to have higher partnership intensity. In contrast, microenterprises in the food sector demonstrate limited involvement in multidimensional cooperation. These differences are influenced by managerial capacity, network access, and sector-specific needs. The findings underscore the importance of designing partnership strategies that are diversified and aligned with MSE needs to enhance effectiveness. This research contributes to understanding partnership intensity and provides policymakers with practical insights for supporting sustainable MSE development.

Abstract
